"Wolves set the precedence for playing tactically in the Championship."
Suggesting the rest have followed suit.
"United started playing this style this season, or at least doing it more aggressively"
What? No idea about previous two seasons.
This annoyed me to, and I was a little disappointed they didn't know that the tactic has been in use for 3 seasons - I feel that wouldn't be too hard to work out.
I think you're taking the wolves comment a bit out of context though, as I recognised what they meant. (Even if they could have made the point more clear)
Essentially, they were trying to say that Wolves promotion was different in the sense that they had "created" a new style, that wasn't familiar to the championship.
They then commented about us and Norwich following suit, not in a sense that we'd copied Wolves style, but that, rather than use traditional tactics or a familiar blueprint out the division, we too had got promoted using innovative tactics.
I think they were essentially trying to say that the championship seems to developing tactically and it's become strong to the point where ideas are no longer trickling down but from the top, but being created/developed in the CH.
Perhaps I'm just a TiFo apologist, but that's how I understood what they're trying to say.
"It's obvious Norwich are following a tactical pattern with their signings. It's not clear whether United's mish-mash is a plan or just great coaching".
Because Norwich bought from Germany and Spain it's a plan. Wilder buys from UK, needs to get lucky.
I agree and thought that they overdid how wonderful Norwich's scouting has been for ;wonder foreign talent;, but our success has been down to 'miracle coaching' of a bunch of journeymen.
Still its probably best that people continue to misunderstand us and over simplify what we do. They will be all the more surprised when we turn them over.
Again, perhaps I'm making excuses but I thought they weren't using this as a stick to beat us with, but actually complementing Chris Wilder.
I think its fair to be complementary to Norwich and their scouting approach. They've levelled the playing field by scouting undervalued/overlooked markets in Europe, and because of that they've managed to assemble the best squad in the division, while making a huge net profit.
Our signings have definitely been overlooked/undervalued too, but because names such as McGoldrick, Stevens, Duffy etc. have been under everyone's noses so long, its understandable why you might put our success down to tactical instruction or 'miracle coaching'.
Essentially, every club in the division had the opportunity to sign McGoldrick, but didn't. However, players like Onel Hernandez and Marco Stiepermann probably weren't even on the radar of anyone other than Farke and his scouting team.
To an extent, I agree with the point they're trying to make: Norwich pulled rabbits out of hats, while we dusted off and improved rabbits that people didn't want anymore- the end result is the same in both cases.
