Cheers JSWT. Enjoyed recording them. And was interesting to get thoughts of Kate/Nathan. Special side that crop. Covid really did kill the vibe.

Thanks espoo and JWST - great to have some behind-the-scenes insight from Kate and Nathan. Hopefully people enjoy reliving the ride, was fun to do that ourselves!

Great mini series - really enjoyed listening to these so thank you.
However, I did find that the last episode focussed a little too much on the negative impact of the pandemic and our subsequent downfall, and would have liked a bit more of an acknowledgement of just how good we were in the autumn of 2019.
That purple patch around the time we played Arsenal, Spurs, Burnley & Man Utd was genuinely the best and most thrilling football I've seen United play given the relative quality of the opposition.
I know there's been a bit of a revisionist view that we were on a decline just prior to covid and were grinding out results, but for that couple of months in the autumn we were sublime. Players like Enda were unplayable at times and I've never been more proud to be a Blade.

Thanks Swanny. I guess the emphasis on the decline, from my POV, comes from a place of ignorance in some respects. We know and saw the good times, and you're right, there are aspects like Enda putting in one of the greatest seasons I can remember, that don't get the attention they deserve. But at the same time, I have a bit of a preoccupation with the COVID period, probably stemming from a gut sense that it wasn't just a lack of fans that wrecked our season(s), but that it had a personal impact on Wilder, and probably the team as a whole. Everything, leading up to that point, was about connection in a literal, not just metaphorical way. Wetherspoons pints. Beers on the coach. Fans in stands. Alan Knill on shoulders. Think as a whole club, we were cut off from that connection. And as much as we were poor, part of it all was this physical disconnection that is still quite hard to pin down years later.

That, and I'm a sucker for a sob story.

That's all very fair and it was very interesting to get Nathan's insight into what it was like to attend games during that period.
I just feel that as time moves on, particularly given our humbling experience last season, it's important to recognise just how remarkable an achievement a 9th place finish in the top flight was given our position four short years previously (and we weren't just keeping it tight and pinching results, we were often out-playing some of the best teams in world football).

I don’t disagree. It feels like we have some of that same vibe among this squad once again. Can’t replicate that ride, but could repeat the success!

Agreed. This feels different to the Hecky promotion season. This squad feels like it has the potential to become so much better. If the younger players like Burrows, Arblaster, Peck, Brookes, even Cooper can continue to develop and live up to their promise, then this squad could have a very high ceiling. Exciting times once again.

Fresh from the trials and tribulations of looking backwards (at the Wilder 1.0 era), our latest episode - out now - looks at our performances this season to try and get a handle on our ceiling and our floor. What is sustainable and what isn't? All measured up in four Formline KPIs.

Just listened to the wilder ride series of podcasts and thoroughly enjoyed them.
It brought back some great, and not so great, memories.
I particularly liked the third episode with Norbert Hermaphrodite who gave some great insight into how The Blades were perceived among other pundits and news outlets. Not really news to us but still nice to have it confirmed from a reputable source.
Good work Pinch fellas.
Well worth a listen if you haven’t already.

Thanks! We tried to bring something different, be it a personal touch or some professional insight, to each episode - glad you enjoyed them.

Done a deep-dive pod into four players: Peck, Campbell, Gilschrist and O'Hare.

Some caveats for O'Hare, I think his 'underperformance' is a bit noisy given we're often ahead in games, and relatively early too. We don't need to use him as a playmaker, and so we don't. That still doesn't account for how easily he's been dispossessed at times. Anyhow, you can listen here:

Have now listened to all 3 of these and really enjoyed them. It's interesting that my only disappointment with them is the treatment of 2020-21. Covid/no crowds was a factor in our collapse, but Nathan seemed to see it as the main and arguably the only factor, and I think that analysis is far too simplistic (although he was around the team and I was not, of course).

I think in fairness he was absolutely set on not characterising it in that way, and would've preferred in some ways to talk about other bits, but I am kinda obsessed with the idea that it was an emotional response to COVID that did for us, so nudged him into that conversation.

We have a new pod up now reassessing the competition in the Championship in what I hope is a fun way. Riley has created a simulator using Championship data. We pit 10,000 simulations against my predictions to come up with a final 1-24 for the season.

Mainly this is about looking at the top 6, and in some respects, the top 5, to see who are realistic threats over the rest of the campaign. But also a full 1-24 prediction for those interested in wider Champ discussions.

Just put out a new pod on the Takeover...

Not just a discussion of "will it or won't it" (I think it will), but what happens next? My biggest concern is around the would-be owners' lack of football knowledge and, as a consequence, who they trust within any new setup. Do they trust Wilder? Probably in the short term. But if they install a Sporting Director or a DoF, I think it's inevitable that that person wants their own man in charge of the first team in the medium term...

Really enjoyed listening to these, reminiscent of earlier blades pods when Jay socik was on and the pod was very stats and analysis heavy

You've gone up to second place in my favourite list

First time I've listened to one of your podcasts, very nicely done.
8/10 will listen again.
Ah, very kind thanks.

There is only one Pod Father!

New pod out now. A cerebral affair about Christmas lists and crossing. Why are Blades the 3rd-lowest crossers in the league? Why have we seen JRS's form dip? And are we due a regression?
