When we have the chance, we really need to do it properly. It needs rebuilding completely. It would be costly, it would be some upheaval, but long term it would be emphatically worth it, and a tremendous legacy for McCabe, potentially.

There should be a sticky at the top of the threads showing the current design explaining why it is the best and only realistic option.
In an ideal world I’d prefer the Kop to be rebuilt but we live in a financial world. The current plans are to remove the posts, build a proper concourse with modern expanded toilets, kiosks and bars all enclosed under cover, increasing capacity by 3,200 seats making it bigger than both the Anfield and Pigs Kop.

The above improvements to the Kop are significant and won’t cost that much (compared to the alternatives).
But more importantly there will hardly be any reduction on capacity whilst work is being done.

Imagine if you were a season ticket holder and the club took if off you giving you a full refund
Explaining that home capacity will be reduced to 19K for 18 months. So can you find something else to do, then hopefully you’ll come back in 2 years time when the ground has been improved.....Who would volunteer for this?

When you say "worth it" - what exactly do you mean?

Because financially speaking, flattening and rebuilding the kop wouldn't likely be cost effective. Any ROI would he doubtful.

Profit's not the most important thing. Certainly not when you're rolling in PL money every season.

What would you rather spend £20m on? One player or something that's a permanent, massively significant addition to the club and its identity? What better thing to spend money on than your own stadium? What defines a club more?

The Kop would be brilliant, so the stadium would be brilliant. It would be something to be proud of. The atmosphere would improve.

It could ultimately be profitable by helping build our reputation and establishing us as a top level club. It would be a selling point to players, managers and investors alike.

And I'd gladly volunteer to give up my season ticket for 2 seasons during construction if needs be.

I would have thought they'd be able to raze the Kop and put up 3k worth of temporary seating during a close season, then construct around it. Stick the away fans there, we should have enough capacity in the BL (now both tiers) that the majority of Kop STHs won't be inconvenienced. Don't know what the STH ratio is on John St but you could probably stick lots in there as well

It'd also have the added bonus of deciding the Ricky theorem one way or another

If a totally new stand is being built from scratch then foundations will need putting in and the whole site will be required and deemed out of bounds. The whole area behind the goal will become a building site, no room for even the smallest temporary stand.

The current design is still excellent and addresses almost every single criticism of the current stand.
Also with an extra 3,200 seats the atmosphere would be far better then having a complete rebuild meaning a slightly reduced capacity.
Personally my priority for the Kop is removing the view restricting pillars and improving the terribly old fashioned toilets, kiosks which are open to the elements, the new design addresses this.

Having a Kop similar looking but slightly bigger then the legendary Anfield Kop would put us on the map more than having a rebuild.

An advantage of having a rebuild would be to have additional corporate facilities but the South stand design gives us more than enough corporate facilities with an underground car park for the VIP visitors.

Wrong. The atmosphere could be far better with a far lower capacity. The main factor for atmosphere isn't numbers, it's the rake of the stand and the acoustics. More would stand up and more would be closer to the pitch. The current plan would just see the vocal supporters shoved even further away from the pitch.

Not that we should be looking at any reduced capacity in this rebuild scenario.

Adding offices, function rooms, offices etc makes more sense, the building can earn money every week, rather than just match days and an even such as Rod singing.

Being as the old Kop is still under the ‘new’ kop the removal would be hellishly expensive though. Needs doing though, the large area behind and underneath is just a waste of space, apart from match day parking

If the rake is steeper then unless the stand is built taller then capacity must be reduced, unless we build it taller than the current South stand. Many say they want more leg room in a new stand, more leg room again means a capacity reduction.

The club are never going to pay massive amounts of money to reduce revenue (with a lower or similar capacity) when the alternative is to pay much less with the bonus of increasing future revenue and not risk upsetting 1000’s of fans.

I’m in agreement in that in an ideal world (forgetting finances) i’d like a total rebuild as long as I wasn’t one of the season ticket holders banned from the ground. In fact telling season tickets holders they can’t attend a single home game for 18 months might mean we lose 1000’s of current fans and potential floating fans, would be a brave man to implement a total rebuild.
