Charlie Adams says we will shock the Premier League

“Charlie Adam has been paying Sheffield United a huge compliment ahead of Stoke's meeting with the promoted Blades on Sunday.

Adam was a studio guest on Radio Five Live this evening when United skipper Ollie Norwood came on the phone.

Sheffield have won automatic promotion playing a rare brand of football which sees their centre backs given licence to vacate their normal position and join in attacks to try and out-number teams down the sides

And that encouraged Adam to say to Norwood: "When you go to the Premier League, you'll shock teams, the way you play.

"At home, you'll be able to play the way you want to play.

I have never really liked Adam, but he spoke a lot of sense on here. It was nice to listen to someone who could name a few of our players and where they play and our tactics. It always helps when they like us too.

The thing that annoyed me was that it wasn't that Leeds didn't put it out that caused the controversy. If that was all it was then I'd be on their side. It was that one of their players pretended he was going to put the ball out and then didn't. That's what makes it awful.

Exactly, he made himself look an idiot. No one really pulled him up on it either and him trying to defend Bamford was embarrassing.

Wright is ok for England matches where passion doesn't look out of place on its own at times. In terms of actually understanding what is going on, I don't recall many insightful things from him. Certainly Neville, Carragher and Alex Scott can sleep easy knowing their jobs are safe.

What I don't get is that the Bamford 'thing' has nothing whatsoever to do with the goal or playing on. It wasn't an emotional response to the situation, it wasn't a 'heat of the moment' action - it was a cold, calculated act designed to get a payer sent off.

It wasn't passion, it was cheating - pure and simple.

How Ian Wright could be OK with that is beyond me. Unless that was how he played.

I think the reason the Villa players were fuming, and no one seems to have picked up on this, is that Villa had put the ball out for Leeds not long before this incident.

While I agree that it's nice, it's the bare minimum in Adam's case: he's still a player for Stoke, so if he couldn't name a couple of players from the promotion team in his division it would have been pretty shameful.

I get your sentiment though as you feel that most pundits wouldn't be able to pick out any of our players (with the exception of Sharp) in a line-up
