Whilst this weekend and next have a potentially huge significance, which will bring more fans out, i think the city could promote itself and its police force better if we did this as a last home game event each season... obviously the big crowd will help tomorrow, but I think they could also cobble something together for next week if there is a promotion party and beamback at the lane[/QUOTE

IF, big if, we get promoted, the civic reception will be on the Tuesday after the Stoke game. So i guess they are doing something that way

Yeah there is that... but a bit of a party would be better for the fans

I dont disagree. Think the onus for next sunday should we be promoted should be on the club, rather than the council to throw a party. Council resources are stretched as it is, where as the club could be in for a £100m windfall. For me the club could have stalls on the pitch, car park and have John street and the pitch and car park open for a celebration /carnival atmosphere..and then when the team are back they can get presented in the Directors box etc

I’ve messaged a few places to ask what their plans are.

The issue with closing down the London Road establishments is that instead of being in one place and easily contained, crowds will head to town/Heeley instead.

If they expect disorder, surely the Police are just splitting their resources?
the police are trying to 'create' disorder. they love it.
i was up London Road last time.. they rocked up in the pubs and 'ordered' everyone to 'finish their drinks'.. so they did by dropping them in the middle of the road where they stood.. they created that scenario

How would that have worked out after the Adkins season?

You’re probably too young to remember Wimbledon and thus missed my point. It kicked off big time on Bramall Lane after the game. If we lose on Satdi it will kick off again. Probably not eighties style but it won’t be pleasant.

I’m no fan of SYPD, far from it but they have to take into account that we do have some lairy fuckers. The way the Germans did the World Cup was the right way imo, mainly female, friendly police on the main streets with the riot squad hidden in the back streets in case it kicks off.

Jesus Christ could you imagine SYP with guns. There’d be nobody left.
They do have guns, just not that many of them.
It’s not the rank and file that are the problem, it’s the higher echelons. The constables, sergeants and inspectors are basically the ground troops that do what the management say, but the management often seem clueless.

Followed by a beer garden in the South Stand car park waiting for the team to arrive back at around 18.00? Nah. SAG would have kittens and Durham Constabulary would need treble time to erect/dismantle the 'hate wall' which - as Belfast would testify to - really stops violence...

When I see stuff like this my heart sinks a little as I realise that the Police and council in Sheffield will never ever change.

I mentioned this at the time but I went to MK dons 2 years ago and spoke to the police there. They’d been warned to expect trouble so they were really surprised that we were so well behaved and friendly. I said that it was never going to be a target for trouble makers. Just fans celebrating and enjoying.

SYP could take a leaf out of Preston’s police and engage with fans. Encourage the carnival atmosphere at football. its the last home game of the season, bumper crowd and a chance to enjoy alcohol

This is a brilliant opportunity for the Police and council to actively police this properly. Treat fans like humans and create a safe area for fans to enjoy the aftermatch safely.

Close London road after ipswich from the cremorne to the music factory. Put big screens at both ends, get street vendors involved selling food.

Pubs can sell in plastic glasses. People can drink on the streets. Make it the end of season carnival and actually encourage rather than being blinkered and in denial
You’ve obviously not checked the weather forecast
