Apologies in advance for the ramble. I feel like I needed this. Maybe it'll help some others too.

Saturday afternoon, I was crushed. I bet we all were. Fans in the stands, players on the pitch, the rest of us following Soccer Saturday or on social media. It took me half an hour ‘til I stopped staring at my phone screen drafting but not sending tweets to other fans taking the p*ss. Tweeting at rickywilsonismyhero1999, fourfingeredjake1992 and bouncingbaztheowl would’ve felt good for a nano-second but gave them what they wanted. I got off my arse, reminded myself it will be alright and downed a rum and coke.

And then Leeds beat an absolutely sh*te Wednesday team. Back down again.

I know I’m not alone. We all feel like this for so many reasons. We’ve seen it before. We know what’s coming. It always happens to us. Why are the football gods against us. Why did we sit back. Why did we just let the initiative slip. Why have we stopped playing the way that we know.

But mainly, why do we all care so much?

‘Cos that’s the thing. On days like Saturday, we wish we didn’t care. We wish we could be happy that we’re doing so well. We wish we could get over things quicker, react in the right way. If this doesn’t apply to you, I envy you.

Or maybe I don’t. Maybe it’s the deep misery that makes the elation so good.

But in moments like this, misery doesn’t help. And the more I read about the impact on players, the more I think about what a player reading this forum would think.

That’s why we need to pull ourselves together and, as fans, go again. It’s utter toss to think that we don’t make a difference.

This campaign has four huge games left. Every player in this squad, every person on the staff, to a man and woman, has been heroic this season. Absolutely everyone has played their role in getting this club to where they are against the odds. I’ve never seen fans so together behind a team and manager and staff. I’ve never been so happy to traipse up-and-down the country following a football team with thousands of others in the same boat. No matter what happens, this set of people will go down in Blades history.

It’s great because I feel proud telling everyone about us. Everyone in my office in London knows I’m a Blade. Everyone I play football with on Sundays knows I’m a Blade. My girlfriend of a year has sacked off her Norwich-supporting family and become a Blade. Mates who support Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, ask me about Chris Wilder. They back Billy Sharp to score goals, they stick us in accumulators.

Now isn’t the time for division. Any player reading this, know that we’re behind you. We might hurt sometimes, and show it in the wrong way, but it’s because we care. It’s why we pack out away ends and fill our home stadium.

There’s every chance we sneak into the automatics. There’s every chance we don’t, and end-up in the playoffs. And if that happens, there’s every chance we miss out. But, whatever happens, we’re in this together.

There's something very Baden-Powell about the OP's post that I'm drawn towards. Of course feelings are not good, and personally I'm feeling a tad fatalistic, but I'm sure the players and managment know exactly what we have to do. We all know what one good result can do, especially if it's backed up with the opposition losing on the same day, so yes, you're right my son......and ignore ol' Denver's pithy pictorial description of life as a Blade ;), where there's a possibility there's hope, or something like that. UTMB!!!

Amen.

Amen LondonBlade89 just posted very similar on another thread..

“What is a Blade my son once asked, is it a hero from days gone past?

No I replied a Blade's what I am, a football supporter a real die hard fan.

The team is United, their home Bramall Lane,
The original United no one else has that claim.

1889 the year United was born,
A new era in Sheffield, a new football dawn.

Years of despair and no major feats,
Of just missed promotions and semi-final defeats...

Whatever the weather, regardless of score,
We always support them and will evermore.

And you must continue on praying for promotions and wins,
Sup a gallon of magnet before t’match begins.

And keep coming back to the beautiful Lane,
Hoping deep down we'll triumph again.

And if you believe in your heart..
That your faith will not fade,
Then from now and forever son,
You’ll be a Blade”

To some of the garbage spouted on here, Twitter, social media since Saturday...

Get a grip man you been brought up a Blade or brought up a wimp?

Blades don’t chuck their toys out the pram, Blades don’t suffer a sense of ‘entitlement’, Blades grit their teeth through the blows, battle back and come out the otherside smiling and smelling of roses.

We don’t lay down and die after yet another blow, we don’t lay down and die and ‘give up’ - Blades don’t give up its not in our DNA

Some might say ‘it’s just a football club’ but if there’s one thing this ‘football club’ teaches you it’s how to live your life - life’s tough, you’ve gotta be tougher. If you embrace life it’ll reward you, if you embrace this football club in the long run they will reward you

We go again against Forest,
We go again at Hull,
We go again at home to Ipswich,
And we go again at Stoke

We’re three points off an automatic promotion spot.

If we suffer another blow and don’t quite make it - we go again in them play-offs

And if we don’t get the outcome we desire this season - we go again next season and we stick with this football club

Write Sheffield United off at your peril

Keep the faith we ain’t finished yet

It is indeed the hope that kills us and the fact that despite a relatively injury free season we knew that when the Gods turned it would be with venom and that in one 15 minute spell two players that never get injured got injured , Our heroic CB misses a game and we contrive to turn the joy of a penalty miss into the despair of panic defending and concede in the 94th minute !

Would we swap allegiance with anyone ? - of course not - just glory in the fact that CW has kept the negative Gods away from us for 2.5 years - they had to come back, however this is CW not NC or NA - he just might work the oracle - he has to or we will surely lose him in the summer !

I still feel down, to be honest, but I'm trying to man up! Come Friday though, we need to be really vocal, far more than we were against Millwall because the nerves of the game definitely got to us. I'm convinced it could have made a difference if the Kop had been in full voice, but we let the nerves get the better of us. We need to boost the players on Friday because it won't be easy against Forest. They'd love nothing more than to end our promotion bid with a home defeat, and that will almost certainly be it.

If we win on Friday it puts that bit of pressure on Leeds and Norwich, and I'm sure one or both will drop points between now and the end of the season, whether its enough to catch them I don't know but I want us to go to the end.

I'm not just saying this cos he's a wanker but it's because Madine played and it changed everything that's good about how we play.
Put Cranie on for Basham, stay patient and we win the game 3-0, pressure stays on Leeds, everybody's wrists intact and no stuttering for a strong finish.
This one's on Wilder.

for all the shite on saturday & the silence in the car where no one dare speak. i wouldnt want to support anyone else. & all wiil be better once we take the lead. they keep attacking

because we & norwich have suffered finish line itis. & hopefully we can break through that wall. leeds haven't caught it yet

We might play slightly more direct when Madine plays but it's not vastly different to when he doesn't play and the goal for Madine was all on the ground. We're gonna need the best from Madine in the next few weeks.

for last week. i keep getting this sense in how weird fate is in football that madine going to score or the assist in goal that gets us promotion

We seem to have played the ball in the air to Billy rather a lot recently as you suggest.

its not too late to go rallying 1936 style if the place gets tarted up a bit...

an impassioned CW speech from the balcony in front of the Blades masses gathering around would be just the tonic!

:)

Some great posts on here, especially those of the "Cry God for United, Wilder and St Billy" variety! I don't think we're done yet, but there have been too many sucker punches, Saturday being just the latest. I do think we'll win on Friday and I have a feeling about Wigan (nothing to do with Leon, just a feeling). If we do it, fantastic, if we don't it won't be the end of the world, although it will feel like it, like it did on Saturday. But we're Blades, we're used to it. We're not Blades because we're glory seekers but because we love our wobbly shambolic football club in the heart of our wobbly shambolic city, but we wouldn't change either for the world. Ignore the rubbish about the crowd\atmosphere, and think about what it can be like, and from where I stand is more often than not. We've got to the point now where we need to stick together, not in a Bladey clappy way, but because there's nowt else we can do, and when you're 3rd in the table, only 3 points behind 2nd with 4 to play, you stick together. Owt else is defeatist, and I for one am not having that now! Up the wonderful Red and White Wizaaaaards!!!!!!

Whatever next??? Makes me not want to get up mornings.

A bit of how’s your father with Khaleesi makes up for an awful lot of who’s your father with Sam!
