Teams being ten, fifteen points ahead of sixth place and they don’t go up???? So, so unfair. It’s a league and then turns into a cup??? What a load of wank. If they have to have this shit, the German way is the best. The team fourth from bottom in Bundesliga 1 play fourth from top in Bundesliga 2. That’s fair in my book.

It’s nothing to do with money. It’s to keep the competition going. If they didn’t have the playoffs then the season would be over for a big chunk of teams after about half of the games. The playoffs give some teams (like Wednesday this season for example) something to play for.
