Have we ever wanted Wednesday to win before?

Every Wednesday vs Leeds game I want a 0-0 draw with 6 sendings off and 10 injuries. Saturday is no different.

But if they beat Leeds and we beat Millwall then we have the upper hand and are less likely to be in the playoffs. Fuck them anyway, we’d beat them.

I tired United team who have noticeably lost their buzz against a Wednesday team on form who would likely have beaten Leeds, Norwich, Bristol Cit & Preston to get in the play-offs with players back from injury who will be fresh? Many of whom have played on a bigger stage and will likely have less nerves? No thanks.

But seeing as it is most unlikely, I’d prefer for Leeds to lose, Wednesday gain nothing if they win. Their humiliation is complete. After lecturing us about how hard the Championship is and how we’d fail, and how they’d batter us and succeed, they haven’t. Despite the millions wasted.

Our return to the Championship has established us as this city’s number 1 team - in every respect. Whether that be league position, attendances, stadium, training facilities, squad quality , whatever.

If they beat Leeds it will be of no consequence to their standing in this city,

And if they don’t then we’ll beat Leeds to the final prize without their help.

1938/39 - We pipped Wendy in getting the second promotion place so we can discount that.
1970/71 - Wendy drew 1-1 at home to Hull on April 10th but Hull's form since they beat us a month earlier (they were 2nd top at the time) had slumped and got only 11 points from their last 11 games.
2005/06 - we finished way ahead of 3rd placed Watford.

Four our other promotion seasons we werent in the same division as Wendy

If Wendy get a result at Elland Road this Saturday and then we go on to get automatic promotion , then it will be the first time they have given us an helping hand( near the end of the season) in getting us promotion

Even more weirdly is that - given the choice on Saturday - I would rather United draw and Wednesday win than United win and Wednesday lose. I feel dirty just saying that!

What were the seasons when we missed out on promotion by a point or two? Wendy got their revenge by pipping us to the 2nd automatic promotion place on goal average in 1949-50 but it is not the same thing.

I have no problem wanting Wednesday to win if they are playing one of our rivals in the table, top or bottom, at the beginning or end of the season, whether it's vital or would just be helpful. Wednesday winning or losing is no where near as important to me as an advantage for the Blades, however small.

A good friend of mine is a supporter of the dark side. I told him I d see him in the pub after our game and be shouting for a pigs win. He replied he d be shouting for a dirties win!! He did offer to wear a Leeds shirt if I wear one of his!!!! I gave him a two word reply. The second word being off!!
I wonder though how many from S6 will be actually hoping they lose on Saturday?

I could live with a draw and let Brentford and Villa do the business against Leeds.

The only other scenario would be that the Pigs win on Saturday and then lose all their remaining fixtures.

Wanting Wednesday to win at Leeds is a no brainer considering what's at stake.

Even 1 season plus immediate relegation is worth £200m of FREE money which could:

(a) HELP to keep CW at the club in the short term and perhaps longer.
(b) help to transform many aspects of OUR football club - not just better players.
(c) quite possibly, even after 1 season relegation, create a better club than what Burnley have become - bearing in mind the excellent manager they have too.
(d) We quite possibly have the best manager we have ever had, especially with the accolades that are at long last coming from the football world. We need to keep this fella, or he WILL walk away or start to be tempted by others.

Some of you just fail to see what's on offer now and what might befall us in the future.

Many people actually used to alternate their support and attendance, attending home matches of both teams .

Wendy didnt get a point to help us so it has never happened that they helped us in getting promotion by getting a point or three (two before 1981) off our nearest promotion rival(s) in April or May.

Cardiff won 2-1 away and 4-0 at home so Wendy have not "helped us" in any of our three promotion seasons I mentioned (see below). Hi Silent Blade Maybe we're both in this too deep. I meant what I said - "helped us". I wasn't trying to make a big "I know something" point. In a 38 to 46 game season we'd obviously finish higher or lower based on the results of other teams including Wednesday. I've found your posts on this really interesting, but I hope you're not looking to disprove some throwaway line from me.
