While I agree that Basham may struggle to adapt to the PL, your talk about selling him to Sunderland smacks of someone looking for attention.
He's been an integral part of a squad for nearly 3 years, to discard him so quickly, before giving him a chance to prove his ability shows an incredible lack of class.

If Sunderland got promoted back to the championship, he'd be a great fit on a 3 yr deal to see him through until 34 and the end of his career at the club that he supports, in the area of his family. I'm not tragically disloyal, I want us to get promoted and stay there for as long as possible and my views are tied in with this concept.

He epitomises United' s mental strength, bold play, team spirit and high intensity this season. You could add overachievement but at this point it sounds patronising. Definitely my player of the season and as several who,like me, have met him can attest an intelligent, personable bloke completely ready to engage with supporters. Surely we can at least manage a 'there's only one Chrissy Basham' chant.

We should never, ever, contemplate any chant that describes a bloke as ‘Chrissy’.

I would suspect that BS is reaching the end of his career with us, and I am eternally grateful for his previous endeavors. If we don't get promoted, I suspect that he'll have another season with us around the starting 11. If we got promoted however, I would be extremely worried if he was anywhere near our first 11. If we're using previous performance as a guide to future performance, we should go for Deane & Edwards upfront next season.

I was merely stating that he originates from South Tyneside, and was making the assumption that it is the area where his immediate family still resides. If his mum & dad, brothers & sisters have moved to south yorkshire, fair play to them, I didn't know that.

Objectively, from the facts readily available, he's played 323 league games in his career to date. 6.5% of them have been at the top level, played between 2008 and 2010, the last being for Blackpool v. Aston Villa on the 10th November 2010. 37% of them at League One level and 51% of his games have been at championship level, and he's currently competing at that level, so it's not a massive jump of reason to suggest that he's a competent championship player. If he was to come available tomorrow, I think the interest would be from the championship. No disgrace in that & no sleight intended. I never got any further than park football. The quality of the premier league of 10/11 is a million miles away from the current top flight.

Loyalty left football sometime in the early 90's, when the great & the good gave way to the greedy & the mean. I've been waiting since May 2007 to get back to the top level, and i'll be cautious about letting dewy eyed sentimentality lessening the chances of us staying there.

Nearly 4 years ago I stuck a thread up with a bit of future-gazing on who from our then League 1 team would rise with us were we to do a Bournemouth esque rapid rise up to the Premier League. I.e, who would be our Simon Francis – the type of player obviously not good enough for the Prem at the time, but who might grow with us and still have a prominent role in the team when we get there.

I suggested 3 might. John Brayford (the obvious choice at the time of writing...), Ryan Flynn (stop laughing at the back!), and Chris Basham. I’d love to see him get there with us.

We're aquainted, but I don't know him well. I certainly don't know him well enough to start asserting whether or not Sunderland would be a good move for him and his family.

There's nothing wrong with your analysis, but it's not the whole picture. What was Jamie Vardy's ratio of leagues/appearances before he broke the premierleague consecutive goals record?

While a lot of loyalty has left football, it's not completely gone. It's the reason we renewed contracts of players who might not of made it after our 2018 promotion, and it's why we allowed those who were surplus to requirements to choose where they were loaned/sold to - to a club of their choice, rather than the club with the best offer.

Loyalty in football is nearly dead, let's try and uphold it rather than killing it off.

While it's tempting to think that we'd simply rely on the excellent squad of players that get us to the 'promised land', it's naive to think that Wilder and Knill won't already be thinking and planning about potential improvements for next season, and regardless of whether we get promoted or not.

Personally I think Bash will still be around. I've said it before that he's a managers dream, model professional, gives 110%, dedicated, worth his weight in gold in the dressing room alone, so why would we want to get rid? It's not as if we'd get a big fee for him.

I seem to recall that it was felt that Chris Morgan would be out of his depth but he won his place back and at least proved to be better than those Warnock signed to replace him.

I was thinking, during the PNE game how Bash is probably my favourite player from the current crop. He's shown loyalty to the club, has grown alongside the squad, has bent when asked and excelled, he's provided moments of magic, determination and class and all while being a humble, genuine human being. If you're looking for a player to show future generations the way a modern player should behave, you could do a lot worse than Bash.

As far as next season goes, he deserves all that he's given to us/the club to be given back in return. He's earned it and I'd be pretty ashamed if, as supporters, we kicked him to the curb for some 'fashionable' alternative.
