RCB is one of many positions where we need to "add competition"/strengthen. A goalkeeper, a number 10 and a couple of full backs are arguably more important.
While I agree that Basham may struggle to adapt to the PL, your talk about selling him to Sunderland smacks of someone looking for attention.
He's been an integral part of a squad for nearly 3 years, to discard him so quickly, before giving him a chance to prove his ability shows an incredible lack of class.
You're either winding people up by saying something you don't really mean, or you're tragically disloyal.
He epitomises United' s mental strength, bold play, team spirit and high intensity this season. You could add overachievement but at this point it sounds patronising. Definitely my player of the season and as several who, like me, have met him can attest an intelligent, personable bloke completely ready to engage with supporters. Surely we can at least manage a 'there's only one Chrissy Basham' chant.
Basham joined us on the 5th June 2014, so he's approaching 5 years at the club. I seem to remember his first two years as pretty patchy. I may be mistaken.
I think he's a competent championship player and he's a huge Sunderland fan. If Sunderland got promoted back to the championship, he'd be a great fit on a 3 yr deal to see him through until 34 and the end of his career at the club that he supports, in the area of his family. There is nothing attention seeking or false about that statement.
His all action style is usually due to him chasing after his first touch. He wouldn't get away with that in the Prem and neither would we.
I'm not tragically disloyal, I want us to get promoted and stay there for as long as possible and my views are tied in with this concept.
Billy Sharp wasn't very impressive in his 1st or 2nd spell at the club, shall we bin him off too?
Does Basham know he's only a competent championship player and that his first touch would prevent him from playing in the PL? Or do you think he might want a crack at proving himself at the next level after a great season in the championship?
Also, his family live in South Yorkshire - he doesn't commute. Also his child recently started school in the area FYI.
I disagree.
You want us to get promoted and stay there at the expense of loyalty by the looks of things.
I would suspect that BS is reaching the end of his career with us, and I am eternally grateful for his previous endeavors. If we don't get promoted, I suspect that he'll have another season with us around the starting 11. If we got promoted however, I would be extremely worried if he was anywhere near our first 11. If we're using previous performance as a guide to future performance, we should go for Deane & Edwards upfront next season.
I don't know CB personally, you obviously do, or at least know of personal details. I was merely stating that he originates from South Tyneside, and was making the assumption that it is the area where his immediate family still resides. If his mum & dad, brothers & sisters have moved to south yorkshire, fair play to them, I didn't know that.
Again, i'm not party to his mindset, so, approaching his 31st birthday, and in good form & fitness, he may consider himself to be premier league level class, I don't know. Objectively, from the facts readily available, he's played 323 league games in his career to date. 6.5% of them have been at the top level, played between 2008 and 2010, the last being for Blackpool v. Aston Villa on the 10th November 2010. 37% of them at League One level and 51% of his games have been at championship level, and he's currently competing at that level, so it's not a massive jump of reason to suggest that he's a competent championship player. If he was to come available tomorrow, I think the interest would be from the championship. No disgrace in that & no sleight intended. I never got any further than park football. The quality of the premier league of 10/11 is a million miles away from the current top flight.
Loyalty left football sometime in the early 90's, when the great & the good gave way to the greedy & the mean. I've been waiting since May 2007 to get back to the top level, and i'll be cautious about letting dewy eyed sentimentality lessening the chances of us staying there.
A like for the analogy - although I don't agree with the sentiment.A playing style like a spaniel chasing a serviette on a windy day.
One of the longest serving players
You’re on a Blades board and he’s been one of our outstanding contributors over the past three seasons. What were you expecting?I've just realised that I must have taken a wrong turn and ended up in the 'Chris 'Golden Balls' Basham Fan Club' clubhouse. I'll need one of the fully paid up, badge wearing, members to sign me in.![]()
No argument from me. Keeper, full backs, no 10 and striker are all more important than replacing Bash.RCB is one of many positions where we need to "add competition"/strengthen. A goalkeeper, a number 10 and a couple of full backs are arguably more important.

Try www.reasoneddebate.com. This is a football forum. No one is interested in criticising Basham for the sake of ‘reasoned debate’. If you can’t see beyond the awkwardness of his style of play and appreciate what he brings to the team, then I’ve got no interest in any kind of debate, reasoned or otherwise.Reasoned debate and not blind reverence?
I thought you were someone else but you appear to have morphed in to that self promoting local radio amateur celebrity BrianBasham joined us on the 5th June 2014, so he's approaching 5 years at the club. I seem to remember his first two years as pretty patchy. I may be mistaken.

. Even the most loyal of dogs get taken to the vets eventually.
You have said on many occasions that we should sing anything to create an atmosphere at our games and shouldn’t belittle any of our songs Pinchy so why can’t people sing that?We should never, ever, contemplate any chant that describes a bloke as ‘Chrissy’.
Basham won’t go from challenging for player of the season in the championship to not getting a chance in the Premier league if we are to get there. He deserves everything he gets and that’s coming from one of his critics from his early days. What a bloke!
Just on a side note, it’s players like him and people like Wilder that are fetching fans in from all over the place, what’s not to like?
I blame the away support.Attendances are down 1,000 from last season. They might have fetched them in last season, but some have wandered away this.![]()

That, and the flick the other week!?
Hmmmm, not sure about thatI said last season, I don't have the stats to back it up, but I attended or watched every game we played and I'd bet a bollock on Bash having skilled his way past more players than Brooks.
Reyt player.
I can’t see your name being Pinchy either but you crack on.Because the people concerned are not named Chrissy, even as a nickname. It's embarrassing
Tufty [or Greasy as his song goes] and Bash. Not Chrissy. It's a girl's name.
