Sheffield is not in same league as Newcastle nor Leeds, Manc etc. Its a second class city in terms of economy, shopping and nightout. On par with Derby and Stoke.
I disagree. I live in Manchester and whilst it has more clubs and bars than Sheffield, I've still always had the better nights out in Sheffield. And comparing Sheffield's economy to that of Derby and Stoke is clearly ridiculous.

As has been said many times, Sheffield doesn't have the ponces and nonces of Leeds and Manchester and its not as famous for its nights out as Newcastle.

But to me Sheffield is a great City because of all this.

The only thing that frustrates me is that for a City of our size we always miss the boat. Airport, Trains, city centre development, we missed the boom time and now all the city centre projects are just turning into expensive ruins.

Its like we built Meadowhell and Don Valley and just thought, thats enough for now. Lets let all these other cities bypass us.

Mmmmm, which city has the largest retention rate (in % terms) of graduates in the UK?

They arrive. They study. They like it so much they stay.

It's not Manchester, nor Leeds, nor Newcastle, nor Stoke, nor Derby!

Must be a good indicator of something very positive I think you'd agree?

Sorry, but Newcastle and the surrounding areas are far better that anything Sheffield has to offer....except the Blades that is!

Are you for real?

Surrounding areas of Newcastle; Gateshead, Byker, Heworth, Felling etc

These places are probably the worst i have ever encountered.

Granted a lot of Sheffield isnt glorious but to suggest that Newcastle is far better is just outrageous.

What's the criteria? Amount of unfinished high-rise 'developments', number of racists and having the best Rugby League team?

:D :D :D
I really don't see much of a difference between the 2 with regards to nights out and shopping. I don't like shopping so the shops in Leeds or Meadowhell mean nothing to me and I've always had better nights in Sheffield. I don't live in either anymore but I miss Leeds more as it's my home I suppose. Got no association with Sheffield apart from the Blades really.
Newcastle was a good night out when I went a few years back though! :D

Basically Sheffield is ace and everywhere else is shite. :D

Ahh - then you've never been to Barlow.

We've got three pubs (but only the Hare & Hounds is really for locals) and a shop that sells stuff for riding horses. We haven't got the coast - but we do have three big ponds where you can pay to catch fish!!

Nights out aren't up to much cos the last bus to Chessy leaves at 6.00 - but there's been no crime since Uncle Bert got done for poaching - and there's no nonces and ponces either (though some folk are a bit too fond of the sheep in the top fields!) :D :D
