If you could buy a season ticket at a much reduced price, that guaranteed you a seat at every home league game, but didn’t guarantee you the same seat or even the same stand would you go for it?

It’s an idea I mooted on here some time ago, probably wasn’t taken seriously, but I think it could work.

It would allow the club to relocate a number of supporters from one area to another to free up whole areas for visiting fans for the big games. This would allow them to sell up to capacity (or nearer to it) whilst maintaining segregation of home and away fans.

Or how about a “neutral” area for fans? Like at Fulham.

The majority of fans are decent folks who don’t go to the game to argue and fight with other fans over club rivalries. I’d be quite happy to integrate with rival fans in a neutral area. We did that many times back in the day and really enjoyed meeting and chatting with other fans about their club and the players and the game.

But now we all have to be separated in case we kill each other apparently!

Excellent idea, it’s something that should really be investigated further.
If and when we put an extra 6K seats on the back of the South stand and an extra 3K seats on the back of the Kop, then all kinds of radical ideas need consideration.

Still don’t understand why when the Bramall Lane stand was built McCabe made a big deal about the great design. He explained that the inner concourse areas can be sectioned off, so there’s plenty of flexibility regards away allocations in the BL upper tier.

A neutral area and mixing of fans are you having a giraffe
I think that anybody that wanted to cause trouble with away fans and there are a fair few that do would be queing up for those tickets. Im sure Millwall would trial that idea then you could go and sample what happens
For the majority of teams the lower tier of the Lane end is enough.

Man City apparently do this for less than £200 which seems like a great price whereas a regular season ticket in the main stand (particularly with the option of a free programme and parking no less) it is considerably (think ten times) more.

Some programme. Some parking.

To be honest what made me think about it is the way that corporate office space is allocated these days.

At one time everyone had their own desk (or office). That all changed 15/20 years ago in big corporate offices. There are a few designated desks and offices, but mostly now it’s “hot desk” arrangements where you might end up sitting anywhere in the building depending on availability.

I’m not saying people like it. We are all creatures of habit to some extent and like to sit in the same place and even park the car in the same place in the car park! But, it can and does work and if we applied that to football grounds it could bring a lot of additional revenue in for one. But not just that, for some fans who can’t afford a season ticket, offering them a guaranteed seat at every game, for a heavily discounted price, providing they are prepared to be moved (for what would probably only be a few big games each season) could be an attractive proposition.

You got it in one, plan is to wait until it happens at United and then unleash hell.
At no point did I insinuate that the Star would report it differently if the situation between the clubs was reversed . I just asked the question whether the Star fears upsetting the blue half of the city (or the red if the boot was on the other foot). I assume the answer would be yes then

Rhetorical surely?

No fear at all, it’s just not a story - just as it wasn’t when United only gave Wednesday the bottom tier at Bramall Lane. It’s their ground, their choice, as long as it meets league rules. And United knew this would be the deal at the start of the season, that whatever they gave Wednesday would be reciprocated.

Dany04, are you deliberately missing the point?

Why have Wednesday got this, you call “reciprocal deal” when they don’t have it with any other reciprocal deal with any other club. Leeds give them 2,500 tickets but still get 4,600 on the Leppings Lane end.
Also SU don’t have a reciprocal deal with any other club. Who said there’s a reciprocal arrangement or us it something you made up.

You do realise that Hillsboro holds 39K reduced to 35K
And Bramall Lane holds 32K reduced to 30K.
So the 5000 shortage of seats at BL demonstrates why it’s unfair to have a reciprocal deal.

If Bramall Lane had a 60K capacity with an away end holding 15K. Do you seriously believe it would be reasonable for Wednesday to give us 15K in return, both tiers on Leppings Lane plus most of the North stand.
Of course not, home fans should always take priority over away fans but once all the home fans have seats then any seats should be filled by away fans where possible.

If United gave Wednesday 100 tickets on the bottom tier (the middle segment) out of spite
Would you still say it’s a non story and a club can allocate any amount to away fans?

It’s an even bigger story because SW have FFP problems but would rather spite a rival instead of earning extra much needed revenue.

But it IS a story Danny. Will Leeds give Weds 4600 tickets? Have Weds sold the lower tier previously to away supporters this season? Why not ask the question why they would prefer to discriminate against United compared to other clubs? If Weds could sell them to their own then fair enough but we now know with the latest batch on sale to us that’s not the case. Questions that plenty of United fans would like to be asked on our behalf yet nobody including our local paper are either prepared to ask or are too scared to

It's all a bit pathetic. Fine agree each team will only get circa 2200. Fine.

Due to ground capacity we sell out.

They've clearly made a decision they won't be opening the lower tier. So why not give it us.

In the meanwhile the twats are still peddling 150 quid corporate tkts which gets you a ticket........in leppings lane. (This is fact as I've enquired and have the emails)

If they'd sold out I'd agree a non story. BUT

Given they'll be at least around 2k seats spare in the away end the questions needs asking to SYP, SAG AND SWFC.

Leeds have caused more agro in the ground and probably outside yet they get around circa 4500. Ridiculous on all accounts.

Seems the no one wants to upset the autocratic Mr Chansiri. Niether about this or shell companies sponsoring the club. I bet Don Howson goes to bed in a chansiri duvet set. Its pathetic no tough questions are asked.

Bramall Lane doesn’t hold 60k with a 15k away end. If either club gave the other 100 tickets, that’d be against league rules. You’re talking nonsense.
Wednesday have given United 2,000odd just as United gave Wednesday 2,000odd. Were you in uproar then for the first Derby? Probably not. But that’s the deal the clubs have. If they want to miss out on revenue by leaving the seats empty, it’s their call.

We give them the same as we give everybody else
They give us a lower allocation than they give everybody else, even though they can't sell out.

Their spite goes even further by giving us a section that holds more than what they give us, just so they can say "You'll get the same as we're given"

If they want to chuck money away then fuck them

Genuine question, if hypothetically United couldn’t sell the top tier of Bramall Lane would you be happy if Wednesday were given both tiers? So around 4,000 fans instead of 2,000?

I dont have a problem with us getting 2300 tickets (which has been by the way been increased to 3000) if we only gave the Pigs 2300, if the Pigs want to leave a whole tier empty because they cant sell them to their own fans thats up to them. If you look at the Glasgow derby away fans this season have only been given 800 tickets when there are usually over 5k

Danny, use some brain please?

Do you not understand that receiprical agreements are only fair if the stadium capacities are virtually equal.

You seem to be suggesting that both clubs give each other 4,600 tickets each
But then do you not understand that 3000 Blades would fail to get tickets in the home sections at BL.
Whereas all the Wednesday fans will get tickets in the home end to see their match at Hillsboro.

How is that fair? Preventing loyal home fans from attending the match they want to attend?
It’s logical that home fans should always have priority over away fans.

I could understand the arrangement last season because SW at least half filled the bottom tier
But this season there is a whole section on the away end left empty. Surely that is spite from Chansiri.

We have done in the past.

And it's a moot point, because we can sell it. They can't, and are clearly treating Utd differently to EVERY OTHER CLUB, including Leeds.

I only hope that this is a complete non-story next year due to us being in different divisions.

‘Would you be happy’

I would be disappointed because it shows up our own support, but thats life, been happening for years. So would have to accept it.

It’s exactly the same as SW allowing Leeds to have 4,600 fans in both tiers.
Genuine question. Do you think the Wednesday fans were happy to see nearly 5K Leeds fans behind the goal?

Do you think Preston and Blackburn fans are happy seeing over 5,000 away fans behind the goal at their grounds. A club looks after its own fans first, then if there’s space they maximise their income by allowing as many away fans as possible.

Yes, I'd be happy to let them have both sections. It's what was done for years
But United nowadays can easily sell the other 29,000 - 30,000 tickets so unfortunately it means Wednesday like everyone else can only have the bottom section.

We are not going to turn away United fans in favour of letting them have more tickets.

They haven't got that problem, there will be three or four thousand empty seats in their parts of the stadium and they limit our tickets even in the section which we are sat in. it's just pathetic spitefulness

It's not tit for tat as some of our own fans have even said, because in order for it to be tit for tat we'd have to have done something wrong first.
We haven't done anything wrong, we sell them as many tickets as is possible bearing in mind the demand from our own supporters

They should do the same, whether it's 2300, 5,000 or 15,000

Of course it is but Danny is putting a spin on it as he or his paper are too scared to ask the question for fear of upsetting anyone and losing their nice little perks. I’ve politely asked him the question and he’s blatantly avoided it by pretending it’s a non story which it quite clearly isn’t

Haven’t got a clue how they felt but are you saying you can’t see the difference between a game against Leeds and one against United, from their point of view?

What ‘nice little perks’ do I get from Wednesday exactly? Enlighten me

I know all about this pal. Amanda (FSF lawyer) has tried questioning SYP before, they’re notoriously non-cooperative
She gave up very easily though. I provided a statement etc. Her response to me was really weak, she just gave up and accepted SYP first answer, which was blaming Supertram and SWFC for last seasons farce.
