Apologise in advanced if the thread already exists.
Looking back at the last 10 seasons and the points required to get top 2. The highest that it has taken was 89 points. However with the league being that tight this year, can’t see it taking that many to get top 2 this year. Meaning more than likely we need around 7 wins out of the last 12.
Meaning our 6 home games are absolutely crucial, win all 6 and we’re all but there in my opinion! UTB!

Sorry, think top 2 for us will be defined by our away form, not home form.

We simply have to win home games to go up - it's a pre-requisite.

Can we get enough away points. S6 lot, Leeds, Preston, Birmingham and Hull are all very difficult games.

We came of age in the CW age against WBA last Saturday with flying colours - we need more of those performances.

I don't think Mr Wilder is thinking second place, certainly not from what Dowell said. Makes sense, when League 1 was in the bag he wanted 100 points, look what happened

Yeah, we have a pretty decent 6 homes games, but a tough looking 6 away (You missed off Stoke).

However, By the time we play Brum, Preston, Hull, Stoke, I don't think they'll realistically have that much to play for so we'd have to be looking at 7/8 points from those 4.

A somewhat novel approach.........

I looked through the last ten seasons and noticed a pattern that winning teams got 3 points, losing teams got 0, and drawing teams got 1. In all ten of those seasons the team that acquired the most points was promoted, as was the second highest tally.

Aim for 1st settle for 2nd.

I know there is no such thing as an easy game but Norwich’s run in sure is favourable.

I’m more confident of beating them lot with Bruce in charge than I am Jos

If your mob finish top 12 you’ll have done well.

Why am I a Sheff Wed fan, tell me Jack?

Because I think Henderson is weak on crosses? He is

Because I thought the team we put out against West Brom was weak? You can’t be right all the time I suppose.

As a minimum to go up in 2nd as it stands at the moment, I think we’ll need 9 more wins (including beating Leeds). That would put us on 91 points and we’d be damned unlucky not to go up with that. Depending On what Leeds do tonight & next two games, 91 may drop to 87/88. I wouldn’t want us to win any less than 6 of our last games.

If we got to 91 points and beat Leeds, they’d would need to get 28 points from 36, WBA would need 32 points from 36 and Boro 35 from 39 to beat us on points. Leeds have pulled in 25 points from the last 36.

It would need to be something like this......

Wednesday - 1
Rotherham - 3
Brentford - 3
Leeds - 3
Bristol - 1
PNE - 3
Birmingham - 3
Millwall - 3
Forest - 3
Hull - 3
Ipswich - 3
Stoke - 1

There’s not much margin for error in those games, some decent teams.

We're currently on 64 points. We've got 12 games left which means 36 points available.

That means we could get 100 points for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.

over last ten years

to win league 87 to 102 points - ave = 94
2nd place 79 to 93 - ave = 88
to finish above 3rd - 78 to 90 - ave = 85

87 to 89 points is a decent target based on history

7 wins, 3 draws, 2 defeats would see us in the frame I think

Best thing for us to do now is to aim for top spot. If we miss it by a place we're still up. Aim for 2nd and miss by a place, well..... I'd rather not go there again

I've said the last few weeks we'd need 90 points to go up. Aim for 36 and see how we finish. Hardest games left IMO is Leeds, Brizzle and the Pigs, win those 3 and we'll be in an amazing position to go up

We only accumulated 17 points against these 12 teams the first time we played them. If we repeated those outcomes we’d finish on 81 points.

Comfortably in the play-offs, but probably anywhere between 5-10 points away from 2nd place.

I know we’ve improved and this may be considered a negative way of looking at it, but it’s worth considering.

The league is going to be the easiest to win (lowest points tally) for a few years, the play offs though are going to be a nightmare.
