I remember the season squad numbers came out. Man U came to Lane and wore all black and they fielded numbers 1 to 11.

Bassett had a right go at Tom Cowan after that game (using a few terms that weren’t so PC, even in those days). Cowan went down like s sack of spuds after getting lightly shoved in the face (possibly by Roy Keane) and Bassett made it very clear that he didn’t tolerate diving.
