Just for a bit of fun, I wanted to work out as to whether Billy's 'decisive' goals in the Nigel Adkins 2015-16 season actually saved us from relegation.

NOTE - I do understand that if Billy wasn't playing, someone else will have played and could have also scored in the matches mentioned below.

NOTE - I do understand that the matches below don't mention every goal he scored for us that season, it just shows the games where his goals proved decisive towards the end match outcome. (whether his goal scored meant we either won, or had drawn)

NOTE - This was just for a bit of fun :)

Bradford City 2-2 (70th Min). Could have lost 2-1 (minus 3 points)
Coventry City 1-0 (w) (79th min). Could have drawn 0-0 (minus 2 points)
Scunthorpe United 1-0 (w) (50th Min). Could have drawn 0-0 (minus 2 points)
Wigan Athletic 3-3 (75th min). Could have lost 3-2 (minus 1 point)
Colchester 2-1 (w) (20th min). Could have drawn 1-1 (minus 2 points)
Swindon 1-1 (w) (8th min). Could have lost 1-0 (minus 1 point)
Port Vale 1-0 (w) (50th min). Could have drawn 0-0 (minus 2 points)
Crewe 3-2 (w) (87th min). Could have drawn 2-2 (minus 2 points)
Shrewsbury 2-1 (w) (8th min). Could have drawn 1-1 (minus 2 points)

= 17 points saved purely from Billy's decisive goals

= 21 goals in the season, he scored for us

We finished on 66 points

21st Place 46 points.

Apart from 3 points, Billy very nearly literally saved us from relegation

Funny this thread wasn't being made when you were calling for him to be dropped

I swear I remember a few suggesting we didn’t need to sign him because we had McNulty. Those were dark, dark days.

Not for me.

UTB

not really

we scored 64 goals in the season , picking out 9 to drop enough points is too selective

would wednesday have gone down last season but for Nuhui s goals
theres a scary thought

if you remove enough points it seems plausable
but would a replacement striker have scored several of them ,,, pure conjecture

would we have gone up if Adkins was booted out at xmas another 10 12 points maybe

In a very trivial sense, yes, of course he did. He was part of a team that avoided relegation and if we'd had a worse team we would've been relegated. And in another sense, no. We were pretty terrible at times that season but relegation was never really on the cards either.

You can give whatever answers you want to this game of counterfactuals so it doesn't really strike me as very interesting.
