I was shocked by how negative Boro were.

I'd expected the usual alehouse football but that total commitment he'd had at Stoke etc. but they were a bit like QPR. Loads of ability but not really interested in scoring even when on top against a bit of scratch side for us. 3 defenders out by 1/2 time and on top for large sections of the first half. You'd be furious at watching that every week as a Boro fan given the budget they've spunked away up there

On the basis of that showing, Boro don't deserve to be anywhere near the promotion run-in. There are much better sides in this division than them.

We had the 2 players who make the formation different missing from the start and Baldock goes off after 40. So the whole back 5 was either a back up or out of position.

True, but Cranie and Stevens were able deputies and did well. Although he wasn't all-action up and down the pitch like Bash, I was pleasantly surprised by Cranie's contributions in attacking areas.

A couple of weeks ago I was telling a Blackburn fan at work that I didn't know what we needed in the transfer window - no obvious weak link in the first XI so no position in need of an upgrade. I said we needed cover for wherever we end up getting hit by injuries/suspensions/fatigue in the latter stages of the season, and there was no way of predicting what area that would be. Lose our two 'false #5's (heard that on the commentary at Derby and have been using it since!) and need a reshuffle, it turns out those players have been in the squad working hard week in week out all season.

I think any Boro fans who are blaming the referee for the defeat need a reality check. From the away end it looked a clear foul on Madine that wasn't given and United were well on top for 15 minutes until they finally scored. I would personally say that the referee was typical Championship standard (shite), but if anything I think we got the better of his decisions.

It's nice to read some posts saying they feel sorry for us having to watch that shite. It's kinda soul destroying watching your team set up with 5 at the back and 4 central midfielders in front of them week in, week out, regardless of opposition (Wednesday at home, Millwall at home). To listen to our manager you would think we don't have the players to play any other way, which is clearly bollocks.
