Gayle charged with deceiving officials

It was a shocking dive--he looked for all the world like Flipper the dolphin trying to jump through a hoop.

Amazed he's been charged, though. A rare moment of common sense by the footballing authorities.

That’s a coincedence I only said on another thread about 15 minutes ago that there were no reports of Gayle being punished.
The reports were only that Don Goodman of Sky suggested he should be punished for deliberate diving.

He was booked for diving in a Newcastle game during 2017. Hope they take note of that

Good. It was a disgraceful dive but Lee Mason couldn't blow his whistle quick enough. Having watched most of that game last night I'm amazed he didn't just change into a WBA strip at half time, he was awful!

Two game ban is the norm, which would rule him out of our game.

If it’s an instant 2 match ban then he’s eligible to play against us.

West Brom’s next 2 matches are Villa away, then they play their game in hand Tuesday night away to QPR

I’m sure Forest will be happy about this, considering it won’t get them their 2 points back.

And it won’t be any punishment at all if West Brom win automatic promotion by 1 point.

Also if we need a tenuous Blades link to avoid going on the lam from the thread police, the first player ever to be charged was former Blade Shaun Miller

Another tenuous Blades link is that former manager Nigel Adkins may have decided his fate. He was at the time one of a pool of 13 that could have made up a panel of 3 that decides each case. We will never know whether he was involved in the Miller case, as I believe they don’t release which 3 were selected.

The statement they released doesn’t give the faintest clue who was involved in the panel:

There’s no room for cheats in the room for improvement, and Shaun endeavoured to deceive the match officials. At this moment in time he will serve a 3 match ban, and will miss Carlisle’s games on Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday. Geese.”

This is the same guy who stuck is hand out
thinking he was Maradona to score a goal
but thankfully was found out....
If streetwise means conning
I am not interested
Football is football
but wankball doesn't interest me
By all means get savvy
but don't sink in the swamp United
Onmi

The only way I can see him have any chance of getting away with it is if he says something along the lines of he was expecting contact. Remember Gerrard?

Gerrard never got done for it but do you expect anything less from the inept footballing organisations at the top of our game? The ‘top’ players never get done for these things, Gerrard never even got charged.

I also thought the same but think it’s a different situation. Morgan made a challenge, the Forest defenders didn’t.
Gayles excuse could be that he saw 3 defenders sprinting towards him. He thought he was going to be sandwiched in a tough challenge from all angles. So in anticipation of a challenge in order to avoid injury he dived over the incoming legs. The Forest defenders were clever because they all pulled out of the challenge at the last minute, so no contact.

The difference with Morgan and Gerard, is that Morgan didn’t pull out of the challenge. Gerard hurdled to incoming challenge to avoid injury then lost his footing. No contact but the experts in the studio all said that under the rules it was a penalty.
They said there doesn’t necessarily need to be actual contact.

It was the ref who should have been charged on the Gerrard incident. It was him that acknowledged that Gerrard hadn't been touched but said he gave it for the "intention". Wanker. Will go to my grave wth evil intent towards him.

Too right. Putting my SUFC hat to one side, Forest fans who paid to watch that game have been absolutely robbed and it stinks. It's one thing when a player mistimes a tackle to 'break the rules', but to deliberately cheat to steal two points off fellow professionals who have put in their best effort is something to be ashamed of.

So a suspension for the cheat. The incident changed the result in the last moments with a pen awarded.
Take away the pen goal from WBA.

Both fair points, they’re both still twats though.

Until the teams are docked points gained from these deceptions them I don't see the point

Exactly Kev !

It’s like the Russian football federation being fined £22k last May for racist abuse in a friendly against France prior to the World Cup - absolutely no deterrent whatsoever. The authorities are shit scared of dishing out anything like appropriate punishment.
