How I feel today is exactly like when David “ginger twat” Hopkins scored a 93rd minute winner for Palace at Wembley in Howard Kendall’s reign. They get promoted, we are destined for another season in the championship.
It took me weeks to recover, hopefully 3 pts against Boro will enhance my rehab!
How do you feel today?

I was there and now that the red mist has had time to settle, it seems like a bad dream that we let that game get away from us. The anger is subsiding, just like an injury feeling bruised but will recover. :)

My top 3 matches of the season where I’ve been negatively affected are

In 3rd place: Home to Stoke, we needed to win to gaursntee going top. Surpringly we really dominated a very poor and defensive Stoke side. It was obvious we were going to win but in the last 5 to 10 minutes Stoke finally showed some attacking intent and we looked nervous in the final minutes, deep into injury Stoke equalised with a free-kick with our keeper at fault.
We should have easily won, played well but threw away 2 points.

In 2nd place. Away to Rohterhsm. Our worse performance of the season, we turned up like big time Charlie’s and were outbattled all over the pitch with our keeper keeping us in the game, We scored a very late 2nd goal totally against the run of play and it looked like we were about to pinch a lucky 2-1 win and 3 points. But a total comedy of errors last minute goal gave Rotherham their deserved equaliser. Felt furious after the match because we only need to see the game out, totally unprofessional and threw away 2 points.

In 1st place. Last nights game. Another game where a win would send us top of the league and heap loads of pressure on our rivals.
We were very impressive for 82 minutes against a very poor Villa team that never looked like scoring. I thought to myself “surely not even United can fck this up being 3-0 up with 10 minutes left”. When they pulled a goal back and just kept thinking about them equalising in the final seconds and as though I’ve got special powers it happened just as I thought.
We always seem to find different ways how to lose points, another 2 points thrown away in the last seconds.

The positives is that we looked superb for most of the match, no other team can live with us. We play nice atttacitve attacking football, have strength in depth, remember Duffy and Hogan didn’t play last night. But the biggest positive for me is that there’s plenty of time to make amends and win the league.

As many have pointed out, it's a Sheffield United thing, we have always done it and will continue to do so ( sorry still hacked off after last night)

I felt like this a few times last season tbh but the two that have stayed with me was Brizzle at home and Cardiff at home . On both occasions we absolutely dominated them only to have our hearts ripped out by conceding injury time goals.

I felt alright to be honest, just nice to be looking forward to games again.
Can't help feeling a bit peeved about the "ginger twat" though. Sure, it'll get laughed off and I might get some pelters. Imagine the furore though if somebody commented "can't believe that black twat scored in injury time".

I’m disappointed. But I’m not crying about it.

Never that bad. That was the worst, followed by Chelsea.

I can't remember tossing away a 3 goal lead before though, let alone doing it all in the last 10 minutes
I starting going to the Lane in 1953, and can't recall a single instance of us going from 3-0 to 3-3 in the last 10 minutes, so it is best regarded as a freak result. The pessimist in me sees it as another example of snatching failure out of the jaws of victory, but it makes sense to wait till the end of the season to judge whether it really belongs in the annals of our spectacular failures, or whether it is a blip in a very good season.

Wigan was the worst. Even if the blades somehow slipped up and failed to get a home point, at least there was no way that West Ham were actually going to win at Old Trafford
I guess you are too young to have been at the Walsall match. Never been in a relegation position in the league all season, draw at home we stay up, Walsall go down. 1-0 down in the last minute, up steps Don Givens to take a penalty, results elsewhere can still save us, we go down for the first time in history to Division 4. Suffering? You don't know the meaning of the word...;)

Imagine going out for weeks after looking for any ginger twat to kill
Then years later tell everyone in the world about it ,

Now that would be silly !

Barnsley away last season, that was awful. Also birmingham away, where we tossed away any hopes of the playoffs. we can come back from this, we'll be fired up as can be against boro and will hopefully have learnt our lesson.

Brighton under DB. 3-0 up and went to 3-4 down.
Clawed it back to win 5-4 though.

As I recall, he last time I saw Villa pop three against us, it cost us our premier league status.

Well, not really, we still had Wigan at home the following week

I know what you mean though, if we had a +11 goal difference over Wigan we'd have somehow conspired to lose 11-0

Almost 13 years ago to the day of the Villa defeat.

Monday February 6th 2006 we lost at home 4-1 against our promotion rivals Watford.

I really thought our promotion charge had come off its wheels that night. I found it difficult facing work the next day.

Not sure if it was on a Monday night because of Sky but we were pulled apart that night. I think Unsworth got sent off.

We had 14 games left and it all worked out well in the end.

Keep believing.

Aye, but the next season was pretty good.

Would’ve only needed to lose 6-0 so would’ve been easily done!

Yeah, you know what I mean though :)
The game at Villa was the killer even though that wasn't the one that sent us down

Losing 3-0 meant a win of any kind for Wigan kept them safe, if we'd done a decent job at Villa and only lost 1-0 say, Wigan would have had to beat us by three clear goals
Mind you they'd have done it so it's all pretty irrelevant

Clawed it back to win 5-4 though.

In 1969, man landed on the moon. Twenty years later, the quality of video hadn't improved:

Blades 4 Brighton 3.

Also remember a 0-4 at Leeds on Aug. 16, 1990 when we thought our promotion drive to the top tier was over. 3 weeks later, we won 5-2 at Leicester and were up.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

Bought Paul Wood from Brighton not long after.

Yes, Wood was impressive for Brighton that day. Similar was a 3-1 home win v Exeter on 18/10/1980. After the game, my dad asked if Exeter had anybody worth watching. I mentioned Steve Neville. We signed him a few days later.

And 50 years after man landed on the moon, it looks like the quality of fact-checkers hasn't improved either...;)
