Noticed that that our Ched scored yesterday and also observed a certain James Wallace was also on the pitch, could that be the the same James Wallace who took a wage for 3 years from United. I did a bit of research and found it was and he’s played 17 times this season, how can that be.
Just goes to show miracles do happen every now and then. Always thought he had potential to be a good player but his fitness record was atrocious so it had to be goodbye.

He would have deffo played more with our current fitness team, although maybe not good enough for this league........

It was obvious that he had ability, unfortunately his injuries prevented him from showing it at the lane and I honestly thought he would be forced to retire. It's good to see him playing regularly and hopefully he can have a good injury free run now.

Agreed - our midfield was generally very poor in those days, but he was way ahead of others in the team. Just a shame about the injuries and that he never got a decent run in the team - it was a gamble that failed for us.

He’s played more games for Fleetwood this season then than he did for us in three years.
Undoubted talent and still only 27

Is it just me that thought he was shite even when he did play. He seemed to get a reputation for being a great player by not playing. The less he played the better the fans seemed to think he was.

I think they were right on here then. I think everyone can see what a player he was and why people still take a chance on him now

Why is he playing in League 1 then? I never saw anything in him other than an injured bloke. Not as good as Norwood or Coutts when they play well.

He was one of the most appalling signings we made in our spell in Division 3 made at a time when we appeared not to do medicals on players we signed.

Another of those who stole a wage from us.

He wasn’t anything special when he did play, hence he is where he is in the football pyramid.

Wilder has sorted the midfield out in style since he took over, let’s hope never again we sign dross like this.

We were too cheap to get Conor Coady and tried to do it on the cheap with this chump. A disastrous decision, to me the ultimate legacy of the Clough era.

How clough managed to give him a 3 year contract with his injury record still mystifies me to this day.

we gambled on Coutts and Wallace, Coutts paid off but he may be going the way of Wallace now?

I remember the same happening wit Shaun Miller!

I always thought Wallace might come good if he got a new pair of knees, but that was never going to happen. The fact that we clung onto him for so long said a lot about what was happening at the club at the time!

Those who claim they saw nothing in him when he did play are terrible judges or blinded by the fact he was a burden on us for 3 years.

He was the complete midfielder - physically, technically, defensively, mentally.

He is where he is as a cumulative effect of the many injury problems he's had - obviously. He was a proper athlete before.

Signing him instead of Coady, John McGinn or anyone else was idiocy given his fitness problems. Signing him in addition to Coady is what should have been done. But we were too cheap and pathetic to even consider that. Coady = sure thing. Wallace = potential sure thing. Then there's McGinn...

Agree totally - well done for not sitting on the fence with this and calling one or two out.

Physically - he hardly ever played and was injured a lot, that's not a prime physical specimen to me.
Technically - He could pass a ball but a lot of footballers can also do the same, I didn't ever see him taking on whole teams or scoring screamers.
Defensively - Again I can't remember him being a tough tackler, mainly because it's difficult to tackle from the treatment table.
Mentally - If he was mentally strong he'd have played through the pain (joke).

I may be blinded by the burden that he was to us but I also fail to make a world class player out of someone who has played in L1 for the majority of his career.

Great to see him making a career after his horrendous problems.

Clearly had talent but I'm not sure he was 'that' good.

He was Tranmere's captain at 20, when they were top of the league for that period. Then he got the first bad injury, and they plummeted.

He was well on his way to the PL.

We didn't have a huge sample size of appearances from him but it was enough to see that he was strong, committed, could tackle, get about the pitch, control and pass the ball and avoid being tackled.

He was still young and had a lot of development left in him.

It's a real shame but fair play to him for coming back time and time again and making a go of it.

Excellent player that had a lot of top end Championship interest in him when Tranmere were top of league one and running away with it. Then he got an horrific injury and never recovered from it.The fact that Wolves were in for him tells its own story; they've gone from strength to strength. It was that strange preseason in which we signed him, when Clough seemed to be taking gambles on injury prone and ageing players.Signing over ten players instead of the two three we needed. Not really adding young assets with the exception of Adams.I wish him luck.

I saw enough in one half of football to know his potential. He had power, awareness, touch and passing. Stood out a mile.

But that glimpse was it. If the potential could ever have amounted to anything is just a fun topic for football message boards.

And I still haven’t seen what his injury problems actually are. He’s ever such a strange case.

Like Billy Kenny, future England captain, ultimately we'll never know.

But I doubt if James Wallace would have ever made a top flight player.
