Its to go to town and moan after every little result. However, progress only comes with being brave, when it works it’s a stroke of genius, when it fails the daggers are out

What Wilder has done is exactly what 99.9% of fans would do. He picked a side which he thought would win the game yesterday. But my comments are not about the game yesterday and performances. It’s the bigger picture

Wilder put out the same side (except for Basham) for three games over xmas and asked a lot of those players to perform. They did. We got 9 points and closed the gap which had opened up earlier in the month.

He then rested those players for the cup with (I am sure) every intention to pick the same team again when the League fixtures resume again.

So we’ve got fresh legs to come back and 11 squad players with 60-90 mins under their belt.

This to me is sensible management, it focuses on the bigger picture.

We may or may not close the gap further on the top two, we may have disrespected the cup, we may have made mistakes in the cup selection. However, that week off might just give us the recovery we need at a crucial stage of the season.

Next step in bravery, signing the most hated pig for many a year, the pantomime villian.

My problem, for what it's worth, is that our players seem to thrive on playing.

Our downturns in form, certainly this season, have come with team tinkering (start of season) and international breaks (always seem to interrupt a good run of form). This feels a bit like a self inflicted break.

So you’re blaming Knill then?

Self inflicted break in a 46 game season is surely more sensible than pushing our players too hard until they break or breakdown

There always has to be a fall guy!

Just listened to Wilder's interview. What a disgrace!

He's given the players a proper hammering in public, they'll never come back from this. He should have said how unfortunate we were and how fitness was the key part.

Shame on Wilder (and Madine).

I’m sure CW is/was embarrassed at the performance, but the players he picked let him down badly. He’ll bide his time, and I’m guessing a lot of those players won’t be around for very long. I don’t think he holds grudges, but he’s not going to let that performance pass by without repercussions.

We've now got another one coming up on 4th round weekend ;)

Looking at it from a different perspective, if we'd played our first team and Billy, Fleck, Norwood, JOC, Enda or Egan had got injured, we'd be moaning about them playing in a meaningless cup game. Especially if we lose against QPR............ no pressure lads!

Did anybody complain about the line up before kick off, looked OK to me and made sense, ah well

Me! I complained. And continued to do so yesterday.

But, I've come to terms with the demise of the FA Cup and I (as was pointed out by many) have put it behind me and got all my focus on the League.

There had to be one!

God bles em, old friends of the family. And Brian was a great fisherman in his day.
Sorry but whats the definition of a great fisherman ? One who nods off the least ,sits the most comfortable ,watches his little feather or whatever it is most keenly ? Or is it as I suspect ,manages to get out of the house most ?

Wilder is separating the men from the boys.

He demands nothing short of 100% from any of the teams he sends out. The team yesterday had enough experience, ability and chemistry to get a result, or at least make a very good go of it. He’s absolutely right to shame them. Those that take it badly will be told to fuck off and find another club, and the others should take a long, hard look at themselves and come back with the bit between their teeth and a point to prove.

Our core 11 will be back in for the QPR game, fresh and eager to show the others how it’s done. Excellent management.

One that drives over to hackenthorpe at least once week, to take a 10yr old, and his old man fishing (over 50 yrs ago) then goes out of his way to show a 10yr old the basics of how it’s done. The man was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was part of the England team back in the 60s. I loved the bloke so I am biased. If not a great fisherman, certainly a wonderful human being. But I digress. UTB,fuck madine.

Unless we sign a player (that's not Gary Madine) today, I won't be happy.

Where's the ambition gone. Come on it's January FFS

Agree with most of what the OP has said, I'd have chosen that lineup. However, the manager does more than pick the team: he motivates them, picks the formation, makes the substitutes, moulds them in training every week, ensures they know their roles etc.

Wilder is God and will probably be the best United manager I ever witness, but he got it badly wrong yesterday (as he said himself).

Wilder told Madine to turn up in a Canada Goose coat cos he hates animals.

Hold on whats this... ? Common Sense?! Fuck that WHERESMUNNEHGONEWILDEROUTCOUTTSOUTOWNERSOUTJUSTFUCKINGENDITPLEASE :p

We discussed the team in the car on the way down, saying it's a strong 11, with a brilliant subs bench. They had a point to prove, or should have. I don't think CW will hold grudges, however I don't think he'll forget.

It's done now, now the first team have a bigger point to prove

Poor team selection, poor tactics. Out of order by slaughtering those players publicly, that should have been done behind closed doors but it was great deflection tactic by CW to take away how badly he got everything wrong and blame the players. Only tactic he got right all day.

It has been years and years since the whole club was so United, the staff, the players, the fans, now all of a sudden CW is on a mission to smash that to smithereens. His slaughtering of fringe players, the diabolical signing of Madine which has not only divided the fans once more but will divide the players 100%. CW saying he has asked the squad of their thoughts on signing Madine before he went for him is the biggest load of bull I have ever heard, what was he expecting them to say? one of the them to stick his neck out? no gaffer I don't want him, hes just not very good never mind being a prized bell end.. Yeah a player is really gonna stand up and say that to CW and basically say your getting it badly wrong and so put a target on his own back, laughable really.

CW can be very stubborn and will stick to his guns even if its not going to work purely to say get it up you to his dissenters, as soon as Madine was mentioned and their was a bit of uproar from some Blades it made Wilder want him more, it will be his downfall in the long run and I've said that before.

This is my criticism of CW, contrary to what some Blades think criticism of CW is allowed when it is warranted and imo these past few days it has been warranted.

That does not mean I'm anti CW, love the bloke but I will always give an opinion of him, praise or criticism. But if he doesn't get us up and it now starts going pear shaped like last season these past few days will be pivotal in his history as manager, the knives will be out and he has given plenty of people ammunition to get people to turn and I cannot see him surviving should it go pear.

Me personally will still back him even if we didn't go up or even make the play offs, he is the right man for the job, he will get us up at some point, I truly believe it will be this season if the camp stays united I just wish he wasn't so stubborn and come out and say it was his fault, he got it wrong, work on it, work on different tactics, different formations, because he really does struggle in that dept if Plan A has failed.

Totally agree. We have a lot of fans who aren’t interested in the bigger picture. That’s fair enough, it’s their money and their right.

But the result is all that matters to some people. We can play badly and have some serious weaknesses exposed, but we got 3 points so it doesn’t matter. We can play really well and deserve to win (e.g. Stoke at home) but there’s a meltdown because so and so did/nt do this so they need bombing out.

The bigger picture is none of those players who lost to Barnet are expected to play much and we’re third. Third!

The biggest picture of all is sometimes football teams lose football matches. It’s much easier to take a defeat when you remember that.

I agree, manager takes team from Mid league 1 to the cust of the Premier League, whilst attracting many praises and plaudits for his innovative style of football, whilst achieving a NET PROFIT in transfers should be questioned.

And can I throw Madine into that aswell.
