I regard it as quite a compliment to our club that ex Wednesday players seem quite happy to come to us and also seem quite happy to be here. Many of them have served us very well.

After all, there aren't many that go from us to them. Not many at all. The last one was Imre Varadi and that was 40 years ago. Unless you count Earl Barrett who played half a dozen matches for us on loan.

I'm afraid it's all too late. I wanted United to make a move for Joao when the club first went up. At that time Joao was well out of favour, but the lad had potential and it would have been interesting to see what Wilder could have made of him. And his wages would have fitted into the structure at the Lane too. But then injury forced his recall and by the time Wilder made his move a year later it was too late.

All the Kosovan has is his height. Madine's pretty tall, but he likes the ball to feet. In think he'll get goals, but I'd have liked to have seen a creative forward arrive. When United play well they've already got players who can score goals. It's when the team's not playing well that you need someone who can create something. A bit like Snodgrass did against the Sheffield clubs last season.
