sheffield star is saying that there are advanced talks between the blades and the eagles for the eagles games to be played at the lane next season, what do we reckon to this. althought i can see plus side, money coming in, the blades name been shown throught the rugby world, i dont no whether i want to see a sign on the lane saying home to the sheffield eagles and how will the pitch cope with the extra matches.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Absolutely no chance.

We do not want rugby at Bramall Lane. Our pitch gets bad enough without having that on it aswell.

pitch will get chewed the fuck right up! Stupid idea....why not have our Uni plaey their american football games on there whilst we're at it....

not a good idea but we know when it comes to united its all about the money, but when you think about it the ball doesn't touch the grass when were in possession. So the state of the pitch will only hurt the opposition.

Cant see it happening, there would be more money in letting the pitch out for allotments.

i bet the eagles are paying us massive money though

could be as much as a £100 a match

Rugby league is now a summer sport and only overlaps into the first couple months of the football season.

I'm all for it, and i think the Lane would be well suited for Rugby.

I also think that the Eagles moving the Lane will help them out in a big way, and would drum up a lot of new support for the Sheffield Eagles, as well as bringing back some of the old supporters.

I was there in 1990 when the Eagles played Widnes who were the then world champions and had Martin Offiah playing for them and the Eagles won

It starts in Feb and ends in Sept/Oct depending on play-offs and the like. Think it's a bit more than you think Ghandi. Plus, one reason they are looking for an alternative venue is the fuss kicked up by Rotherham over the state of the pitch, this from an Eagles official.

Nah it would screw up the pitch.

They can go and play at the swimming pool over in S6.

I watched an Eagles game at Don Valley a few weeks ago. Although Don Valley is predominantly designed for athletics and the drainage/pitch isn't really up to football standards. Theres no doubting the state of it isn't helped by RL being played on it.

great idea !............ let em have cheap as chips for manager anall ........ he knows how to hoooooooooooooooooooooooooof it !

Once this is in place, maybe we could go and snap up a few Hungarian and Chinese

rugby clubs while we're at it.

Come on you Chengdu Eagles!

Why not get the army doing military exercises at the Lane too.
What a f@ckin stupid thing this would be for our pitch.

Can't quite see there being anymore supporters going to the Lane than Don Valley. Well I mean who in their right mind is going to sit there and watch a bloke at one end of the pitch hoof the ball up to the other end hoping that someone will latch on to it. No it won't catch on.

I am a little worried I would hate for our pitch to be ripped to peices by the egg chasers it does get bad in winter anyway, I just fell McCabe is trying to get as much money in as possible but at what cost??

Fuckin quality Mary!!!:D

Maybe it`s a cunning plan to slowly shift Blackie to the Eagles coaching staff?, we`ve already got the Long kick for touch, the High lump toward the in goal area & we are class at running around bumping into each other sorted, if only Blackie could find away of introducing a scrum we`d have the full set.

Oh, Eagles at Bramall lane?, no thanks.

Don't forget Speedway!! Maybe greyhounds also!!

The playing area of the lane is too small for Greyhounds and Speedway.

I reckon Speedway is Sheffield's hidden jewel. Loads of people are aware of it but never go. With enough people through the gates, Owlerton is better equipped to Elite League Speedway than most track, and due to the fast layout of the track (long straights and long sweeping corners) you are unlikely to find better racing in the country. With enough people there the atmopshere could be electric.

As long as the 12 yard box doesn't get torn up who cares about the rest of the pitch? We rarely use it............ ;)

Whilst on the subject of alternative sports, I was on holiday in Ireland last month and happened to be there at the time of the Irish Hurling cup final. Knowing nothing about the game, I watched it on the telly, expecting to be underwhelmed, but was absolutely blown away by it. The game has everything - pace, aggression, non-stop action and a high level of skill. It is so fast and furious that they play only 35 minutes each way. It is very physical and the players wear protective headgear to guard against flying sticks, but it is not a brutal game - the ref is quick to step in if there is any deliberate fouling. The game is hard to describe - it's a bit like a cross between rugby and hockey, but the ball is whacked in the air - not along the ground, and players can catch it with their hand and run with it, either bouncing the ball on the end of the stick or carrying it like in an egg and spoon race. The skill factor is remarkable - players were racing down the touchline and whacking the ball unerringly between the goalposts from 50 yards or more. They score 1 point for a hit over the bar (the goal posts are 'H' shaped, as in rugby) and two points for a 'goal' in the lower section. There is a goalkeeper to try to stop the 2 point scores. The pitch is big - certainly larger than a football pitch, and the game has a huge following in the Republic of Ireland. Whole villages were festooned with flags in the build-up to the game and many cars carried flags. More than 80,000 fans watched the final and, as far as I'm aware, they were not segregated.

It's difficult to get across the appeal of the game in words, but if you have a chance to see a game of hurling,, do give it a try.

it is not a brutal game
you've obviously never played the game! My brother had his arm broken twice playing hurling when we were kids. The helmets are a bit of a clue...
On the ground share, Reading and london Irish have shared for years without the pitch suffering - but the secret is investing in a specialist pitch system with proper drainage and a supporting lattice structure. I can't see us spending the money to do it properly.

cant see the problem myself, the type of football we play means it wont matter what condition the pitch is in.....
