Been the one big criticism from most in his tenure here - his use of the subs and choice of. Sometimes less is more. Clarke fantastic when he came on today.

I was calling for Mcgoldrick to be taken off after 30min!!He left the substitution a lot longer than he usually does, he didn’t panic.
I think they’ll be fighting each other for that position depending what happens with Dowell. IF we get our hands on that strikerTo be fair of late he's started taking Duffy off for Clarke so it's not something out of the blue today. What it tells me is that Duffy maybe the sacraficial lamb for a new striker as Goldy is fucking ace at playing the deep role behind the strikers.
Didn’t do the usual subs for dummies routine of a Defender to hold on to what we had thereby changing the shape. Kept the shape that was coping well (as it has in the past) without Stearman disrupting it. No changes for change sake. Tiring Duffy off and a very intelligent McG back in position as forward playmaker. Kept the pressure and momentum.
He did very similar to what he usually does. The difference is that we went on to win. Look back at the start of this season, when we were top of the league nobody was complaining about his subs. A poor run of form later and it’s “he’s never been good with the subs”.
Is it just me that thinks his subs are shite? Great manager but it’s a real gap in his ability.
When we’re not inventing anything and can’t break someone down, he brings Clarke on.
When we’re shitting ourselves and desperate to calm it down and keep the ball, he forgets Coutts plays for us and brings Clarke or Stearman on.
If we’re losing and the game is desperate for pace, he ignores Johnson and brings Clarke on. If we’re winning comfortably, he doesn’t take anyone off for a rest.
Great manager, dreadful subs almost every week. If you need an example, look no further than Clarke on vs Ipswich.
A month or 6 weeks ago he would have brought on Stearman and hung on for 2-1. Likely finishing 2-2.
Having learned his lessons multiple times it was a whole different ball game bringing on forward players to see out time in THEIR half. Thus taking pressure off our back 5 and meaning they could not commit that extra player or 2 forward into our final third. Against Hull we completely outplayed them in the last few minutes when he did the same thing. Attack is a far more effective form of hanging on to see the game out, for us at least.

Eh? Brought Clarke on today and he scored.
A contender for today’s highest ‘drivel to content’ award.
