You have to beat the worst sides home and away if you want to stay in the promotion race. We’re generally very good at it but today is a huge missed opportunity and a bad result.

We failed to do it today against the worst side we’ve faced all season in my view and I’m not actually sure how we’re still in the play offs.

Oh, and Ipswich is a shithole.
 



I agree fully. We can get there beating the teams we ‘should’ beat. Blackburn and Wigan are the next 2 that we need to beat.

We haven’t looked like beating a top side, in form, yet this season. If I’m honest I don’t think we will. Our season relies on beating Ipswich and the likes, fucking Ipswich are so shit.
 
If we don’t get a goal in the first 20 then the opposition grow, everything is fine when we finish our early chances. The thing is it’s getting rarer and rarer we convert early, WBA we go into an early lead and lose, the weaker teams will fold at that point.. quality teams will know we’re gonna tire and carry on after us..

You have to beat the lower teams, spot on...

Oh, anybody watching hull city?
Adkins attacking for the whole game and just took the lead from being one down, playing without fear.. what the fuck has happened to him??

There’s the added pressure of beating the ‘shit’ teams at home, who get numbers back quickly or never leave their own half like Wendy. Winning away is probably easier for us as there is often more space, given a home team will attack more. But our counter attack is slowing down so let’s see what the 2nd half of the season away form is like

You try and be positive when we’re in the run of form we are having just drawn against the worst side in the league. We are desperate for the transfer window.

No reason why we couldn't although I do think we'll need to pick up a few more points off those around us to do so.

Yes, we need a striker but even if we don't land one and slip away we're still playing bloody brilliantly.

The problem is games don’t necessarily play out according to league position.

A few years ago we were in the play offs and drew lickle Yeovil. The easiest of the play off fixtures. The one we wanted. It didn’t quite work out that way.

I’ve no more confidence that we can beat a team at the bottom versus a team at the top. Over a season..yes sure. We’ll do better than them, but on the day? Anything can happen.

So we have to put results in perspective. By all accounts we were far superior to them today and 3 points would have been justifiable.

But we got 1.

That’s how it goes.

The main thing is we are sticking in there. The lack of clinical finishing is a concern. Apparently, the stats suggest that in terms of “expected goals” we are amongst the best in this division. But if you don’t have the players with that extra bit of skill to convert them you are always going to have results like this one.

I’m still very optimistic. I thought we would do worse than last season but actually I feel we are doing better. A couple of new faces and a bit more zest up front could turn these draws into wins.

I suspect we are this season’s Huddersfield Town in that respect.

I'd be really happy with that level of progress. I thought at the start of the season (admittedly before we finished all of our transfer business) that we'd probably be looking 7-10th this season and to break that top 6 we'd need a little more.

I think Norwood has given us that extra bit that we needed in Midfield, but sadly Woodburn and Johnson haven't delivered yet. Washington was starting to show something, looked to be doing ok and then he's out of the side again, albeit because Billy is scoring.
 
We are the most over rated side in the country and that’s a fact. I’m sick to death of people wanking themselves off about our over lapping centre-backs when we have absolutely no end product.

It might look very nice us passing the ball around on the edge of the box and making it look like we might do something but how many times do we actually test the goalkeeper. We needs some serious investment otherwise the play-offs are a pipe dream.
 
Our record against the top half teams is similar to those around us

Boro have 13 from 11
Forest - 12 from 11
Brum - 12 from 11

Blades 11 from 11

Only Derby have 16 from 11.

We need to improve, but it's not like we are some rubbish outlier

With our recent form no, why should I be?

We are crying out for January to come and fast.

We’ve not won in 3 games at home and we’ve only won 3 in 11. We’re showing the exact same signs as last season.
 
Even if they’re just people trying to be funny in some strange way talk of ‘safety’ is ludicrous.

We are far better than that and should be aiming for far more than that. Going down was never on the cards this season it wasn’t even on the horizon.

Top 6 is a possibility but we have to cut out these stupid mistakes at the back and score more goals in order to do so.
 
For clarity this was never intended to be a negative post, I’m not entirely sure how it’s been twisted and misconstrued to fit that viewpoint.

It’s very simple, we’ve lost nearly every game we’ve played against the sides around us, and fortunately played Norwich and Villa at good points in order to beat them when we probably would be looking at a very different result now.

But no one can argue if you don’t win them you HAVE to be beating Ipswich away from home. You have to win those types of games if you have designs on promotion and you’re not beating the sides around you.

We are very good at it usually, I’d say better than most but we leave ourselves no room for error in these games because we are incapable of beating our rivals. That’s why yesterday was such a disappointing result. They are fucking dreadful.
