We've got one multi millionaire property developer owner. We've got another owner who is s member of the Saudi Riyal Family. Our Polyester suppliers are Adidas, a multi-billion company. Yet, our millionaire players are fronting up, asking me & you to put a tin of soup in a box so that the kids down the street don't go to bed with an empty stomach. Grotesque. Not having that. As was once sang

Do you know if any of these people/companies you have mentioned have or have not given anything to charity?

It may well be that for every tin of soup fans give they might put in 10 but might not want to make a song and dance about it

SOUP!!, you tight bastard!;):p

We are supposed to be something like the 5th richest economy in the world and we have bloody Food banks.

Pre 1979 (what a crap year that was in so many respects) most homeless people in Sheffield were known by their name. Nowadays there are so many homeless people you just couldn't keep up with knowing them by their name.

In the 1960's the word 'benefit' was an alternative name for a testimonial game. Now it's taken on a whole new meaning.

We are supposed to live in a democracy and yet just over 2 years ago we voted to leave the EU and there are those who won't accept the result and want another vote.

The Prime Minister (whether you like her or not is irrelevant) wins a vote and there are those who still want her to resign. Where's the democratic logic in that?

What a bloody mess we've made of this country.

I do not mind if Charities ask for donations. I do not mind if people donate to Charities. I don't like football clubs playing look at me me me with my big bollocks & how worthy I am. Just cross the ball to the back post, get a good leap in & try to direct it towards goal. Food needs to be bought by money earned by the people consuming it. If that is not possible, food needs to be bought by money provided through tax for the social security of those who can't afford to pay. Money provided anonymously & fairly - not by rattling a tin. I am proud to shout - I try and help as many people as I can through taxation - as I myself was helped by the midwife, doctors, nurses, teachers and even Coppers paid by the taxation of other people.

To be honest, if free stuff had been available in the 70s we'd have been there like a shot. But nobody had then thought to set up 'food banks' as a means to score some PR points against the government.

What happened in the seventies is you went on strike, got your strike pay and put it over the bar at the club the same day while moaning that your kids had nothing to eat........

Where does all this end ,who decides who is worthy of a food parcel , does anybody really starve in the uk ,or is it just middle class people making themselves feel good .shame is this country will never have a government that tackles these problems the more growth this country sees the average man gets less .

Free stuff was available and I benefitted from it, however in an age where dignity had not yet been discovered, everybody in my class at school was reminded I was getting free meals by the teacher at the beginning of each week. My(our) generation resorted to these things as a necessity not 'to get something for nothing'.

I remember in 1984/5 my mum sending weekly food and clothing parcels to miners' families in South Yorkshire, there was lots of talk of Ethiopia at the time but there were serious problems far closer to home. You're right, due to monetarism, society has degenerated and suffered ever since, to the extent that we're numbed to the horrors of poverty and homelessness. If it takes a few middle class Blades to fill tummies and bring smiles to some children's faces, so be it, no matter how appalling it is.

Don't contribute then - it's not compulsory

Football clubs are at the centre of a lot of communities and initiatives like this, which aren’t controversial, should be encouraged.

It is ultimately free choice if people choose to get involved and donate, and no aspersions should be cast on those that don’t choose to donate, it is their choice and that is absolutely fine. But the club is using its position in the community to help increase awareness and do some good which it should be commended for.

I do have issues with some of the lengths football clubs go to for occasions such as Remembrance Day or when paying tribute to people. But initiatives such as this aren’t controversial and don’t force people to do anything they don’t agree with.

I know of 2 people blagging the food banks when they can afford to eat, both on full disability when there's fuxk all wrong with them. They're better off than me and I work full time. Just allows them to buy more cans and weed.

It's like we keep getting told about these poor nurses who need to go to food banks. The basic salary for a nurse is over 22k why the fuck do they need to goto foodbanks? Budgeting lessons would be better

I usually agree with what you post but in this case I can't. In this day and age with the policy of enforced austerity foisted on us by a government that is totally out of touch with reality even people who are working are often not earning enough to put food on the table (and at the same time not earning enough to contribute by paying taxes as you obviously can). The club is to be applauded for trying to help these people unjustly penalised and ignored by an uncaring government.

Not when they are training they don't and don't forget it was this government who got rid of the bursaries for nurse training thereby putting them in debt at the end of their training.
