How long do these players have to play at this level before they are playing at their weight ?

Not for very long. Anyone of a certain age will remind you of our best team post-war including Woody, Hemsley, Badger, Colqhuoun, Dearden etc all fell off the edge of a cliff in the space of 6 months.

Snooty I do think you are indeed a Blade. But seriously come on, the football Chris has got us playing is nothing short of amazing.
You talk of reaching for the stars but realistically, we don't want or need the Prem it's bollox and totally about money.
Enjoy the football we play, enjoy the defence playing out in tight situations, enjoy Goldy playing sublime touches here and there.
I am loving the ride we are on but wanting a trip to play Peps team - no thanks..

Yep, this is the crux of the whole issue. We have been turned around, great. Now we need to progress. Stick with what we have and we will soon be heading south again.
As well as the Blades, I support my local team who play in Step 4, the seventh tier of English football (Isthmian league). We got promoted last season from Step 5. I went down and watched today, against the third placed team. Looking at the 14 blokes who played, only five remain from last year’s promotion winning squad. Non-league, fifty quid a week top whack, no transfer fees. But the manager has had to wheel and deal, as we’re playing at a higher level. And he’s got us up to fourth place in that higher level by changing almost the entire starting XI.

Cool story, bro - I know, I know. But snootyfenooty i understand and recognize what you’re saying. If you want to progress, you can’t just stick with what you had.

You didn't post this on Tuesday night because you would have looked silly twat.

I don't get carried away by one win nor do I despair when we lose a game. I'm looking at the bigger picture. We need a refresh, that's all I'm saying and clinging on to icons isn't the way forward. The only thing that has surprised me recently is that there hasn't been a clamour for Jake Wright's recall.

Billy’s legs have gone so many times he was wearing rollers when he scored that hat trick against Wigan.

No they haven't gone yet but they will do in the not very distant future. The solution? Washington, McGoldrick, Clarke, Ched:rolleyes:.

Don't fucking think so.

Yep, time to have a clear out. Sentiment has to be chucked out of the window and some of the following need to go. I'm sick of hearing about the justification for pursuing with the likes of Leon, Billy, Freeman and Basham. Duffy is on borrowed time and the latest fan's fave McGoldrick couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. Go on then, say it, his "link up play" is fantastic. But we didn't sign him for that, we signed him to score a few fucking goals.

Wilder needs to have a radical re-think in the JTW because he's just dipping his head in a barrel full of stale apples with team selection at the moment. Yeah, I know, the board need to chip in too but they need to take their heads out of their respective arses and look a bit beyond scoring PR points from each other first.

Has someone hacked your account or let you at a crack pipe?

.

Pretty much a description of what Wilder has done since he came in.

Christ, I would have put my mortgage on you taking the piss out of the critics with a tongue in cheek post. Were you being serious ??

Am I being serious of my doubts about the likes of key players such as Billy, Leon, Goldy and Duffy progressing the club for much longer? You bet I am.

We have got the squad we have got and Chris is doing miracles with them. We need to be realistic though, We haven't got a billionaire owner who wants to through loads of money at the team . We are punching above are weight . Let's enjoy were we are and get behind the team.

Yeah I agree that they are in the twilight of their careers, I think everyone accepts that and I reckon Tufty will already be looking for replacements. McGoldrick was a low risk gamble which has paid off although the failure to properly replace Clarke means we’re relying on him a little too much.

As for the original point, I got castigated for raising the problem of our ageing attack in the summer. To be fair, mostly Duffy and Sharp have still been playing at the top of their game but they're both clearly not as food as last season. Clarke has gone as a regular starter. Next summer we'll have to replace Sharp, Clarke and Duffy with no money. Not to mention the fact they probably wont want to leave as under contract.

What a fucking utterly wank post that is. Get a grip.

Leeds are 1 of the favourites for the title. It was a game where both teams cancelled eachother out and in reality neither deserved to win. A terrible mistake has cost us.

Think you need a modicum of support for your opening post.

We MUST improve on certain aspects of our first 11 and get some quality in certain positions.

I am absolutely fed up of games like today - really pushing on, trying to win and the opposition just picking us off - it's a recurring theme and as much as our players try, we just keep falling short.

there isn't the money within the present set up of McCabe and the Prince to create the revenue needed.

It's a really difficult dilemma we find ourselves in - much more blood letting and frustration to come me thinks.

I genuinely sometimes wonder which United people think they are following? We have spent 5 million, If that, and are in the top 6. It is not going to get much better than this. We are a mid table championship club who rarely bother the elite division due to lack of funds and lack of ambition/cash from the owners.
You are supporting the wrong club if you are expecting a shit load of money injected into the club which propels us into the premiership and European domination.
We have not had any real success for about a century and it won't be changing any time soon as far as I can see.
These are the good times ffs!! Try and enjoy them.

My view is yes we need to look for better quality to improve but, make no bones, today it was that we couldn’t win the centre of the park battle. Bash am was immense today and his cutting runs made Weeds scratch their heads. Goldy is a very, very good footballer but doesn’t have a powerful shot which means the goalie can get to it. Please don’t shoot me because I love the footie we play but CW doesn’t mix it up. Ok, he doesn’t have the players unless (and here is a thought) maybe he could look at the development squad. Now and this is a biggie that might get me shot down in flames but I thought we needed a midfield spoiler on today and I suggested that Lundstram would have been useful. I know, I know......

Billy's legs have gone.

We should have sold him in the Summer.

He'll never score goals at this level.

He only gets a game because he's captain.

Cunts - the lot of you...
Billy’s fine around the 6 yard box. But persists in chasing lost causes around the pitch. The top goal poachers don’t play tippy tappy on the touchline or at the corner flag. They concentrate on getting into goal scoring positions.

There's a difference between them not progressing for much longer and needing to be cleared out. Gradually phasing them out of the starting line-up like Wright was last season is more likely for Sharp and Duffy if we have someone who deserves a start more (currently we don't). McGoldrick only just got here and is doing alright in general play, but needs to improve his finishing. Clarke is already just a sub most of the time, so will probably be sacrificed in January if it allows us to bring somebody else in.

We definitely need an alternative to Duffy and a younger option up front, I don't think anyone disagrees with that. Clearing out all those players isn't necessary to do that.
