That must be the final goal in the 5-0 thrashing of Blackburn at the start of the 70/71 promotion run-in.

Ted Hemsley’s missed penalty in the same game hit me and my friends on the Kop and we weren’t standing at the front, either.

Conditions were fairly attritional, as the picture shows.
Oooooh, get you.....attritional. :)

Yes,Malcolm Macdonald for Luton,I think 1970/71 2-1 United i think..Didn't look upto much when he came to the Lane when we best them 2-1..different story when he came with Arsenal a few years later in the cup though.
First time I saw United on the telly in colour - at a mate's house I might add!

Colour strike (13 November 1970 – 8 February 1971)

The colour strike was an industrial action by technicians at all ITV companies from 13 November 1970 to 8 February 1971 (although some shows made during this period in black and white were having their first transmission as late as December 1971) who, due to a pay dispute with their management, refused to make programmes in colour.

Believe me, to be as highly intellectual as I am can feel like a curse sometimes, it really can.

I no what you mean.

Everyone was on strike back then.

What a great picture. I used to stand at the 34 bus stop to go to my grandma's house at Heeley. Platform A is also the platform hundreds of Blades marched down in 1968 in a defiant gesture towards the Pigs after Ritchie had scored the winner at the Lane. If I remember right there was an escalator at the end of the platform that took you up to the Picture House and where the Friary Chip Shop was.

Can anybody put a date on this? I reckon early 60s, but not sure exactly and may be even earlier.

I think it's Cup 3rd round v Crystal Palace, Jan 10th, 1959, won 2-0. That match was certainly played in those conditions. I worked with a Palace fan in the 90s, and it turned out we had both been at that game. It taught him what cold weather is!

The second tallest building in Sheffield although given it is built on much higher ground, the top will be significantly above St Paul's Tower.

Opened in 1966 and now Grade II listed together with the adjoining library.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arts_Tower

"Entry to the building was originally made by a wide 'bridge' between fountains over a shallow pool area in front of the building. This pool was eventually drained and covered over when it was found that strong down drafts of wind hitting the building on gusty days caused the fountain to soak people entering and exiting the building.[3]"
