I agree mate it’s not going to be easy, nearly everybody at the top half of the division the will be looking at the same pool of players and in the end the ones with the big bucks to spend will get them. I think whoever we get has to be fit and hit the ground running though, hopefully be an automatic first choice and it’d be great if we can get them in early on. If Carlsberg did windows eh? :D

Not that I would want Defoe at this stage in his career but he has always worked hard.

I've always liked Defoe, but he's too old now
I've never rated Long, he just doesn't score enough goals, and he doesn't really have anything else to offer other than scoring goals which he doesn't do enough of
 
Who remembers Neil Shipperly?? I doubt any of us were excited by the prospect of his signing BUT he was the experienced pro we needed to get us up.

Then after promotion, he was replaced by Rob Hulse when we had the resources to buy him. His goals probably would have kept us up if it wasn’t for the injury.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with 1 or 2 pragmatic short term signings if there’s no value available longer term. The importance is keeping the balance right.

I get that, but comparing Defoe to that piece of shit Hammond is just cruel!
 
If I was a united fan, I'd want Forestieri (subject to him proving his fitness before January).

It'd be a bitter pill for Wednesday fans to swallow, he's completely different to what you have and he's exactly the type of X factor forward you lack.

Plus, with Wednesday's FFP issues, a significant bid would have to be seriously considered. I reckon you'd get him for £8m and he could definitely make the difference you are looking for.
 
For me. if we have the funds to bring both those two in then I would prefer just Defoe on a loan deal until the end of the season and have another go for Luke Freeman at QPR

Forestfairy? Wouldnt touch him with a barge pole personally

Spends half his time either injured or suspended and has history as a trouble causer off the pitch

Remember him refusing to play for Wendy? Something about because some player was on more than him so wanted to leave?

I'm sure CW has a policy regards his targets and one of the criteria is how they conduct themselves in the dressing room/off the pitch

Footnote: Just to add, I'm sure a caller on footy heaven last night said that the few times he's turned out this season, they've lost every game? (I could be wrong)

15/16 and 16/17, Forestieri wasn't involved at all in 21 matches. Wednesday took 25 points from those matches (1.19 points per match equating to 54 points over a season).

In the 71 matches he was involved Wednesday took 130 points (1.83 points per match equating to 84 points over a season).

In the 17/18 season Wednesday's finished with promotion form, which coincided with Forestieri's return to the team.

This season, we've not won since FF did his hamstring

How many times has he started this season and how many goals has he scored?

Was the statement from the caller last night wrong? Sure he said that Wendy haven't won when he has played this season

As for his previous record, personally I don't read too much into it. A couple of seasons ago you were successful. Now not so. You stand still in football you go backwards. As I say, personally I wouldn;t go anywhere near him, but that's just my opinion.

How's Ched getting on at Fleetwood these days (puts tin hat on and disappears into bunker)?

Has Washington played for the U23s? Will he be given a chance in the first team this season or is he another Holmes/Leonard?

He has started 5 matches and scored 3.

Of those matches we drew 3 and lost 2. To give some context the whole team were awful the first three matches in which he started and he scored two in that period so I think its unfair to blame him. Especially when his previous record shows Wednesday are a top Championship team with him in it and average at best without him.

He has come on as sub 5 times. We have won 4 and drew 1 of those.

He has had no involvement in 7. We have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 5.

I’m not against the signing of him as long as we have others to come in as well.

As many have said a signing like this can get you over the line but only if he’s fit and ready to go. He’s only made 2 apps this season so clearly he won’t be first team ready straight away, especially at 36.

No good signing a player like that in January if we have to spend 3 months getting him fit. I’ll use James Beattie’s second spell as a prime example of that.
 
Defoe and Sharp could share the "fox in the box" responsibilities. Would like to see a genuine physical prescence as a second loan. I`ve yet to work out why we signed Conor Washington.

6 in 14 for Ched. Not a bad return given how long he’s had out. Then again not sure how Fleetwood set up so maybe he may relish an opportunity to come and play in a side like ours.

As for Washington, felt at the time that he wasn’t really Wilders first choice. But then again the other 2 he chased over 2 windows so Christ knows why we even bothered

I was told last year his wage was 3 times more than our top earner.
Refused to travel and play before getting his payrise.
Still being investigated over racism?
It's a no from me. He's perfect for South Barnsley

Ched’s injured again though isn’t he? Shoulder apparently.

I don’t think we’ll see him in a United shirt again somehow.

Too early to judge Washington yet but all I’ve seen so far is he can run fast.

I’m really not a big fan of bringing in ex big name players. Defoe was exceptional at one bit though. The irony of this is that if he signs for us he will cost a fortune in wages and only be coming because Brooks is keeping him out the side!
