Defoe would be a very short term target at 36 years young. Short term contract or loan until the end of the season?

Long is 31, 32 in Jan

Not my sort of target, but nowt to do with me. Hopefully CW can turn around the fortunes of someone like Long and/or give Defoe the opportunity of first team football, where even at his ripe young age, would still get goals to keep us challenging at the top

As the song goes "we don't have a barrel of money" and if we can get Defoe on a decent loan deal then it would make sense.

We NEED a finisher and Defoe fits the bill - lets hope the deal comes off and it works out for both parties.

Our main strikers (not including Washington) are already a combined age of age 95 years old. Is it not obvious that we need someone who we can utilise for at least more than a couple of seasons?

Besides that the wages will probably be a sticking point. We could get more for our money.

If the plan is to sign someone either on loan or on a short contract until the end of the season then it’s a no-lose contract. Go up, and it’s thanks for getting us there, here’s your bonus, goodbye. Stay down and it’s thanks for trying, here’s no bonus, goodbye.

As long as we aren’t saddled with overpaid pensioners on long-term expensive contracts then it may be worth exploring.

This will alert other clubs and we may not get them. Am disappointed that our targets are revealed 7 weeks early

It’s frustrating. But the proliferation of social media makes it hard to keep anything quiet these days. Like bad decisions from ropey refs, I guess the same applies for all clubs in the division (apart from FLDC FC, naturally), so we have to hope that “it evens out across a season”, etc.

On the upside, have we had a managerial team in recent memory that’s been better at keeping targets / incomings under wraps?

Biggs?

Schmiggs.

I don't know the terms of Dwight Gayle's loan from Newcastle United to West Brom, but would he be worth a cheeky bid?

If the only goal is to literally just get up there then that’s fine, but if it’s to actually stay there and sustain ourselves we’d need to sign an entire new set of attacking players.

Say we get there, then what? We’re stuck in the prem with the same strikers who weren’t scoring enough goals in the Championship.

Fulham are proving this season that spending millions on almost an entirely new first 11 once up there is no guarantee of success.

An entirely new first 11 wouldn’t be needed, though. ‘We’re stuck in the Prem with the same strikers who weren’t scoring enough goals in the Championship’. Is there a transfer embargo?

They will have combined age of 68 come January. Not for me thanks, we’ve had enough old crocks getting thier final pay packets at the Lane over the years. I thought Dean Hammond would have been the final straw.

I’d sooner us look at a player in the lower leagues if we can’t find anybody younger than them

But we cant afford a premiership quality striker as we only have a Championship level income (especially if we dont go up and are stuck with them), if we go up with a short term has been then we have a premiership income and can afford said striker
