Bloke top right proving the Chinese were watching the Blades even then.......

That or it's Nobby Stiles.

How come there are Brummy fans in there? (Woman with scarf aloft on left-hand side)

Bottom row left. Artful Dodger, Oliver. 3rd from the left, the kid with the racist Grandad from East is East. Warwick Davis.

Me too ,wasn't that Gil Reeces flying welshman game ? The game that made him an Icon for me and my favourite Blade ever. The reason my daughters middle name is Reece.

Remember that game very well , Brum had forced their way into the promotion mix on the back of Trevor Francis's goals, and their fans welcomed them out with a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday to you , Happy Birthday Trevor Francis" , but we soon killed them off with a solid 3-0 win & their challenge was gone.

I don’t think I realised there was a players’ tunnel in the John Street Stand. I only watched a game once from it – our 2-0 win over Newcastle in 1994, the last game for the stand before it was demolished. Was it the same stand back in ‘71, or had there been modifications since? At a guess, seating would have been the main change.

Also, in my naivety I was so shocked at seeing lots of bluenoses climbing over the turnstiles into the ground without paying. This was a much worse crime to me than all the hooliganism I witnessed back in them days.

If you have the same picture to the right of the tunnel I'm pretty sure I'll be on it :-)

You young'uns. Until the South Stand was built in the mid 70's, John St was the only non terrace area in the ground and the Kop and BL were built on rubble.

You'll be telling me next that you didn't know you could rent a padded cushion for your seat in the old JSS, sit on it, then throw it on the pitch when we went 1-0 down :-)

And the dug outs only had room for about 4 people and the most, none of them being John Harris

First built in 1902

Damaged in December 1940. The gable was gone after the war

Alex Sabella coming out of the tunnel in August 1978. Think it was last used in 1982

Great photos SB,I was on the Kop and Gil scored the first goal at that end which was even better than the diving header...left channel,40 yards out...moved away from a couple of Brum players, passed another before running across the last 2 defenders before cutting between them to get through on goal and blast it past the Keeper...fantastic goal...I've posted about it before, but the roar of the crowd as he got through on goal sort of went into a hush just before he struck the ball...you could here the thud of the ball when he struck it...Francis only 16 aswell for them, great days.

The red & green cushions bring back memories, they used to sell them at the cricket matches as well when Yorkshire played at the Lane.
I remember as a youngster, towards the end of the day's play & people started drifting away, we would gather them up & lay in comfort on a bed of them!
