I know player suggestions can be tedious but since we're after Gallagher who is an out and out target man but seems to be difficult to get over the line, could Eaves be an option. 26, 6.5ft in the last year of his contract and based on the video below (I know, I know) he can finish with his feet as well as his head. He's from Liverpool so maybe would fancy a move hearer home too.

Scored an impressive 17 goals last season, considering Gillingham finished 17th.

It would be a gamble that last season wasn't just a blip. His numbers prior to that are terrible. Maybe a late developer which happens.

Wonder how many times James Shield could use 'Eaves dropped' in a season?

Rather get Luke O'Neil, the number 2 RB who put about 5 balls on a plate for Eaves there.

I thought the exact same thing! Some cracking crosses swung in for him there! Even I would have scored them!

Looks bang average...

Fair enough all about opinions. I've not watched him personally as I said but if we're going for a target man he seems a real threat. His goal scoring record is mixed but he's scored goals in short loan spells in the past and he obviously did well last season. If we're going for a target man I think he looks decent and will want to come for our wages As a comparison Nuhiu at the pigs might seem bang average but he's a handful and off the bench I can see a place for someone like Eaves.

He scored more than headers as well which I liked, seems to get on the end of things and attack the ball which is something that not all strikers do - amazingly.

I watched Rotherham vs Gillingham at New York last year as the Blades had no Saturday match after our win at Leeds. He scored in that match, too. The match made me think "Jesus, league 1 is truly atrocious when United do not play..." By that I mean that both teams looked completely devoid of any skill and neither had the zest or work rate I'd come accustomed to from opposing teams in most matches we played at that level. Gillingham won and Eaves scored in the match.

He was lumbering and massive but effective in a battering ram with some sort of nous way. In that match, Kieffer Moore also played and looked equally wooden and cumbersome. After that match which was some time deep in autumn I would have put my house on Rotherham not getting promotion...

Having a second great season for Gillingham.

Big powerful centre forward, starting to realise the potential which saw Bolton spend nigh on 1mil on him 10 years ago as a teenager.

Last season he scored 17 goals, this season he’s got 11 in 16 already for a poor side.

Worth a look for a potential bargain price? Running out of contract at the end of the year.

The Star would be spaffing themselves over the potential 'eavesdrop' puns.

Well unless we somehow magic up 7 or 8 million and circa 30k a week on wages we ain't getting a top end championship striker. So shopping back in league 1 might be the best option. Even then, someone like Lampard, Pulis, Moore, Karanka at al could offer any potential signing twice as much in salary.

Alternatively we keep Sharp, McG and Clarke fit, at to their strengths and we should get 30+ goals combined over the season. Hopefully Woodburn proves us all wrong and turns out to be the ace up our sleeve. But we need to see better than what we have so far. Hopefully he hits a purple patch after Christmas, assuming he stays.

The only patches Woodburn has left have been brown so far. It looks very, very unlikely he's going to contribute

Sadly I think you could be right mate. Just clinging to the faint hope that he comes good. Been a major let down so far.

Have we gone from being prepared to pay Hogan's reported £35k wages to bargain basement again? I don't think we have to be fair.

I’m struggling to see many realistic Championship targets who would improve us for the price we’ll be willing to pay

Quality player by the looks of it gets compared to Andy carrol a lot think he’s out of contract so would be a good signing deffo a likely signing

This would have been a favourable alternative to resorting to Madine.

In time, Eaves will be a decent Championship striker.

Why do you say that like it's a matter of fact? For all you know Eaves might not be ready for the championship (if ever) and Madine could make a meaningful contribution.

Eaves may well prove to be a good Champ player and a better one than Madine. However, now is not the time for Wilder to take punts on L1 players in the home they come good. Madine, for all his limitations, particularly his scoring record, is proven at this level and CW will have a far better idea about what he's getting. Eaves could be anything from someone who carries on his current form to a total dud and CW is playing a short game at the moment to optimise the chances of Utd getting up this season.
