I always knew that our performances against the Top 6 were not too good - but, at the end of the day, they are the top 6 so you would expect to do worse against them than against the rest.

However, I have just been looking back, and noticed that since Tufty's arrival we have now played 14 away games against top 6 sides and won precisely zero - having lost 9 and drawn 5. Even in our 100 point season we drew 3 and lost 2. Risk and reward doesn't seem to be paying off here - you would really be aiming for about 14 points from these games - not 5.

Interesting statistics bit It’s irrelevant during a full season promotion campaign.

It only becomes relevant if we finish in the play-offs as we’re likely to struggle in the away leg.

Unlike many of the promotion chases It proves we must be extremely consistent against the lower teams and every game is for the same 3 points. Lose home and away to the top 6, beat the rest and we’re likely to win the league.

There's no risk and reward in how we are playing away from home. We can't score and we rarely keep a clean sheet. If we were losing 4-3 I'd agree with you.

In our 4 difficult (Boro, BC, Derby, Forest) away games this year we have scored 1, conceded 7. If anything we need to be much, much more attacking

That's a very interesting stat ,improve those results and we would definitely go up.I hope ( he should be ) Wilder is aware of this .Maybe a less attacking format might bee more successful ,we obviously lack the nous to take these teams on away from home.

Well if we beat them all at home then it’s even, which you’d have to be content with. I take your point though.

We can’t set up for a ‘typical’ away performance where we hit teams on the break. This is an issue when we inevitably get pegged back for spells in games. Without wingers you lose that outball and there’s no bursting pace from the midfield or up front to counter.

That’s not a reflection on Saturday’s game by the way, which was very even and uneventful. They had a tricky No.10 who decided the game, we didn’t and that made us less of a threat IMO.

We dont know who the top 6 will be yet this season.

I've found two types of people in my life. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data

Who have we beaten away this season then who you think will finish in the top six?

Bolton were third when we played them
Might have been a false position looking at the table now, but they started well and we had to go away and face them during that good run

True . But at 3 up we took our foot off the gas and very nearly lost the game .

I still don't think that it's a particularly interesting statistic.

Failing to beat the top six best teams in the league away from home is pretty believable.

Our home form is good and we can pick up points away. Wednesday kicked the fuck out of Villa and Fulham away last season, and that didn't get them anywhere.

What will get us promoted is keeping up our home form and winning games away from home against sides like Hull, Millwall, Preston, Ipswich, QPR etc. All teams that bummed us off our game last season.

Blackburn possibly, they’re one point off and improving.

There is also the possibility that we may not have played some, or even any of the teams that will finish top six this season, WBA for example.

You know what mate, I think you shouldn't dabble in statistics unless you understand the relevance of them.

The statistic that matters is not whether a match is home or away, or whether it is against a side currently in the top 6 or not. It's about how many matches we win overall, compared to draw or lose. That's what matters. And in that regard Wilder is the best manager in living memory.

Or doesn't that count?

I couldn't give a damn which teams we win or lose to. It's a total irrelevance. It's idiotic to think that one game is going to be easier or harder than another - they are all bloody hard, that's a fact. All that matters is that we win more than we lose or draw and get ourselves up the table.

In that respect we're doing absolutely fine.

Its a stat Wednesday keep going on about to belittle our position. It shouldn't bother me, but every time we lose to one of the higher in the table teams, I know I'm gonna get the "see" messages and it right pisses me off.

But I’d have been glad of a point at derby and forest if only to keep the gap from them to us healthier.
