To be fair, Wednesday are a poor side who we should have taken to the cleaners but we were unsettled by the loss of Killa (5 goals conceded in 2 games without him) and then Ward who's looking like the best £300,000 we ever spent.
Add in we play with 10 players whenever Evans is on the pitch and I'm surprised we won.
United need a couple of players still to challenge at the top and we should not be going into games against mediocre opposition with such a weakened squad.
As for Wednesday, I thought they were surprisingly soft for a derby match. As a team, they don't seem to be much of anything. No real quality, no real graft and destined for midtable but a bit better than a relegation scrap this year.

Quote 'Once they celebrated Ward's injury they deserved everything they got. '

Quite agree. I don't expect opposition fans in a derby game to applaud an injured player off, though I would hope they would, but the treatment Ward got as he was stretchered off was disgusting.

Thats the problem with a big lead the pressure is off you start to coast and that allows the other team to get back in it.
next time go for the jugular.
Bunn has taken the blame for that soft second goal hit from well out the wall did its job he just didn't cover that side, good for him to admit it.
The unclean have a very good keeper he kept them in it with two class saves in the second half one tipped over the other tipped round the post goals against a lesser keeper.
Those two saves prevented a rout.
The uncleans attack fizzled out with ten minutes to go when a losing team should be applying pressure.
Where did 5 minutes of extra time come from
at the end of the match?
Ward was carried off in the first.

Evans set up the second, and if not for an excellent save by Grant, would have had a corking second.

Fair play to you len, coming on here after you've been turned over. You must be gutted..?

Hey, fish! :fishy::fishy::fishy::fishy:

Evans is Sharp mark II (without the effort) sadly and I was embarrased for him tonight.
He either takes the necessary rocket and starts puting some effort in or we start looking for a new striker.
Henderson is having to carry the work of 2 players when Evans plays. It's a shame we didn't and now can't play Hendo and Wardy together because that suits the way we play.
Evans will be out on loan post January if he carries on contributing so little.

lenners. you need to go to specsavers fella. ched worked hard and managed to keep hold of the ball, a lot more than hendo.

Think it's time you leave the thermos at home and watch on telly.

It was one of the most spineless efforts I've seen in a red and white shirt in a derby match.
Nowhere near good enough. Those fans that have a go at Henderson need to have a good look at the difference between the effort and impact of the two tonight.
Evans isn't fit to lace Henderson's boots on current form and effort.

At the risk of going off topic, but did you think the same of those who were giving Alan Quinn grief after he was carried off past us on the Leppings Lane end when playing for that lot some six or seven years ago?

Did we throw coins at him though?

Don't be silly.

Deserved everything he got. He scored and wound us up by celebrating straight in front of us.

Any team would have done the same.

Just shows how low the followers of swfc are. Can you all remember when we had a minutes silence for the 2 wendy fans that got killed travelling to coventry. Not a murmer from the Blades fans, then they cheer as Wardy goe's past them on a stretcher, absolute aresholes:shakehead:

Erm, he scored at the away end and ran to the John Street Stand. He may have looked at you, but that hardly equalises the treatment you gave him. And the fact that any supporters would do the same is not an excuse; I wouldn't, so from my own perspective, it's one of the reasons why I think your support was a disgrace last night.

The other being that a bloke gets introduced on pitch at start; blind, heart bypass, transplants a plenty, recent amputation of leg. Gets clapped from United end. Gets sod all from Wednesday supporters. I don't give a shit if it's because he's a Blade, fact is we always respect minutes silences, while there was no respect from you lot for a fellow human being who's be beset by multiple hardships. Stunning.

My mate told me Wardy was flagging them while on the stretcher ,but how braindead are the medical guys ? why didn't they take him round in front of the Kop.

Len ,I agree completely about Evans ,he played like a startled rabbit ,just hope it was nerves but he does need to put more in.

"Wednesday in contrast wanted to play football".

They may have wanted to play football, but they will need a different set of players if they are ever going to achieve their ambitions. I thought in the second half they played very well, but still qualify that with for a mediocre chamionship side.

Yes I did, and me and Mrs NYB clapped him off, although we were in the minority who did.

Don't agree there, the majority of their fans applauded when he was introduced, just didn't bother the second time as he left the pitch.

What an idiot

Have said in the actual match thread....but i'll repeat here...

Atmosphere was fantastic - as you'd expect.

There were two MAJOR turning points last night.

1) Wardy getting injured -he was burning Wednesday's lewft wing every time he got the ball - he's so small too...almost like they couldn't keep track of him - he just kept popping up in space...gonna miss him so much whilst he's injured! Funny though - he sounded thick as pig shit when he was interviewd on Radio Sheff post match!

2) Esijas (sp?) coming on. This guy was terrifying! Truly! Every time he had the ball he looked like scoring....why h why must wednesday always have a black fella on their wing that toasts us? Last year it was Sodje....this guy was immense and single handedly turned the tide for them...the rest of the team seemed SO inspired by his mere appearance and effect on the pitch...

Of course this was all helped by the fact that Cotterill cannot defend for SHIT and is a liability that needs getting rid of ASAP!!!

Perfect game of two halves...

QUOTE=1867;183544]

Wednesday were playing lovely football, dominated the second half completely, which I suppose was to be expected from the half-time score. I know I'll be shouted down but I thought we were definitley worth a point, you just shaded the first half (despite an emphatic scoreline) and Wednesday bossed the second.

In terms of football, again i'll be shouted down but I thought you lot were awful with the constant use of the long ball, hoof after hoof, with Henderson of course it was working because he was bullying our defence (not having a go) but it was dreadful to watch and Wednesday in contrast wanted to play football, may be sour grapes but that's what I honestly thought.

Montgomery - Do your fans still give him stick? Because he doesn't deserve it.

Henderson - see Montgomery. Man of the match

Enjoyed reading your report.

Thought I'd pass a couple of comments.

I thought we only went long ball in the second half when we were under a lot of pressure. You had a lot of men committed to forward positions and the obvious thing to do was to hoof the ball over the top of them to relieve the pressure.

In the first half I thought we attacked quite well down the flanks - in particular your left flank where Jamie Ward was causing you all sorts of problems. Him going off was quite a significant moment in the game and definitely reduced any goal threat that we had.

Esajas was a very good substitution for you and was a real threat throughout the second half.

I really don't know whether or not you deserved a point. I agree with you that 3-0 at half time flattered us. But you were not very good for that 45 minutes. Unusually hesitant and timid. Your defence was all over the place to the point that almost every time we got forward I expected us to score (and I don't feel like that during many matches!). In the second half you upped the tempo noticeably and were a lot more creative and purposeful with your passing. Esajas caused havoc, and Tudgay's great strike could not have come at a better time for you.

When the second one went in with still 25 minutes to go I think many of us feared the worst. But we did dig in defensively and ground out the result. Also, playing the game at the tempo with which you started the second half is difficult to keep up and I think you probably began to tire. Coupled with that, gaps began to appear at the back as you tried to push forward, and we nearly scored ourselves a couple of times towrds the end.

Ultimately you paid the price for that unusually uncertain first half.

I'm glad to see you thought Henderson was man of the match. I also thought he played very well, managing to get to balls hoofed out of defence in blind panic and hold the play up to at least relieve some of the pressure. And, yes some of our supporters still give Montgomery stick which I also do not feel he deserves. Without players like him, Morgan and Henderson we would have folded up completely under that second half pressure.

The complete naivety of suggesting that Unitedites are hoiler than the Pope while Wednesday fans have just come from the gutter. There were plenty of Wednesdayites clapping the guy onto the pitch. Why were you watching our end? To see if we gave a response?

And I don't condone the abuse given to Jamie Ward either, I was just pointing out that you shouldn't throw stones in glass houses - you lot have done far worse in the past.

Where exactly did I suggest that Unitedites are holier than thou? I even said in another post earlier today that the behaviour of our supporters in previous derbies is reprehensible too, but that's no reason not to criticise your lot should you do the same. It's such strange logic that I hear often.

And I can honestly say (without bias), that I didn't see or hear any of your lot clapping him on the pitch. If they did, it was a minority.

I best take it back then seeing as every other bugger saw it.

Time for stronger contacts I suppose :(
