... while wearing a half and half scarf - tourist!

;)

I've been out of the country while his half and half scarf nonsense got going, thankfully. So I'm a bit unawares of the detail.

I was in Manchester before heading to BDTBL for the Hull game the other weekend and people were selling half MUFC half NUFC scarves in the city centre, and my old man explained what they were when I was all baffled

Now, my question.....

For shitty games like that, I understand a casual fan foreign tourist or 20 might buy one before a game, as a souvenir, but they wouldn't make them for derby games would they?

Wouldn't you automatically get fucked up by both sets of fans if you wore one of those to a derby game? Wouldn't the seller also have his stall burnt down?

Genuine question as this is all very odd

But isnt there a cost of £30 to register making the price for casual/ neutral fans £61 for a ticket on the Kop.

I think a lot of people are confusing memberships with customer numbers.

Memberships are £30 aimed at people who don't buy season tickets. They give 100 loyalty points, £1 off each match, shop discounts and 1 free Cat B game once 5 games have been purchased in that season.

Customer numbers are given free for anyone requiring a ticket, with loyalty points added to your number on purchase of a ticket. All you need to give are a few details such as name, DOB, contact details. No bank details required.

Friends and family allows people to group together and bulk purchase tickets for (and by) any member in that group, 1 ticket per customer number and each person get points added. Group buying over the phone or internet has only 1 £1 ticket charge and all tickets are posted to the purchaser.

Hope that clears it up to some.

Of course people used to make their minds up on Saturday morning
We've done it no end of times. Before all ticket games and loyalty points we'd often make our minds up in the boozer on Friday nights, and I know lots of others did as well
Our away support has fallen since 2006-7 and there has to be a reason why considering that this is our best team for many years

Most away games prior to that had a very healthy following from United and most clubs fans if they're being honest would admit this. Except for our own of course

But there were no loyalty points.

Every game was sold out, by your logic.

So how could you make your mind up on a Friday night to go to a game that was already sold out?

Leeds have an away season ticket system. You have to buy a home season ticket to be eligible for one although the numbers are limited and you can't join now until someone drops out. This guarantees every away league ticket. They also havea membership scheme. It doesn't seem to affect their away numbers.

Also, if all the Blades at the top of the LP tree are shunning away games because they can’t sit with their mates - then how are they top of the Loyalty Points?

Anyone else see the irony of people saying Blades can’t be arsed to register, it’s so much hassle, on a message board that you have to register with in order to post?

I did earlier.. It must be the time difference!

There are a group of six students who sit near us regularly None from Sheffield.

How many of these city visitors do you reckon are around? Bearing in mind you think only five students attend ? :)

Just as many hoops to jump through to join on here. That doesn't seemed to have stopped some on here who can't be bothered to do the same to watch the team.

(Exiles, expats and dogs excluded)

Why am I not surprised that the great defender of the faith has taken up the cudgel. Of course the club's ticketing policy is perfect along with everything else they do, how could I be so cynical and doubt them.

Didn't have to be sold out, there was no such thing
You turned up at some stadium or other, paid your money and got in

Most already know this but will still argue the toss for no reason

I've not said that. I've merely pointed out some people wouldn't have a problem if they made a bit of an effort.

But don't discuss that or the five students nonsense.

There wasn't any tickets, as you well know

No tickets? What era are you talking about?

Under Basset in the top division when we were taking 5/6k to some games we ran coaches and had to take season ticket stubs down to the Lane to get tickets. I didn't miss an away game in that year and I'm pretty sure tickets were on sale for every game.

You're obviously on a wind up. Or weren't there.

Ok, that’s fine then. I can’t respond to this because my head is hurting that much after being whacked by the goalposts that you continually keep moving to suit your agenda.

He's moved them back to the early eighties this time.

If we’re on about students, they simply don’t go to football at their host town/city and why would they? If they’re UK students they’ll have a team already (would I have gone down Elland Rd in my uni days? No chance), and I’m not sure foreign students will have the appetite for English football and be the cash cow people think. If so, they’ll be coming in their droves to BDTBL already.

The only nonsense being talked here is your claim that 6 students turn up regularly near where you sit. In the South Stand, prime seats, six together, pay on the day in an area booked solid with ST holders where they're sold out well in advance every game. Yeah right. You're just making things up without actually giving any thought to what you're saying in a failed attempt to give your argument some validity. You can do better than this!

Learn to read. I never said they sit together. Two are Chinese to start with. Seeing as you know where all ST holders sit, you will no doubt tell me whereabouts I am. Even give a breakdown of every part of the ground identifying every ST seat. That'd be handy. If you want nonsense, where does your figure of only five students are at the Lane? Now that is claptrap of the highest order.

Decent seats but the various people who sit around me can be different every home game suggests that there are quite a few available seats for pay on the day.

That student discount offer hardly seems worth it.

When calling someone a liar, you need to type something that doesn't make you look like a fucking idiot. You've failed miserably.

Tsk, getting riled now aren't we. So all Chinese are students now are they? And presumably as part of your research you've confirmed it with the people you think are students that they are actually students. That's a strange thing to go around asking people but whatever. You've stated on here many times before you are a SS season ticket holder by the way.

Well l'll call you a liar for saying I said they sat together. You made that up. Then you claim that there are no pay on the day tickets near me without knowing where I am in the South Stand. So that's made up. As there are several available seats near me, the Chinese lad has sat next to my son. We chatted with him a couple of times. Odd talking to strangers at football matches I know but perhaps I'm not as set in my ways as you. Age can complicate rational thought.

Same with the others, my son actually. He knows one of them who has a part time job at the same place he does.

As I said, you've made yourself look like an idiot. Feel free to accuse me of lying again though. It'll help make you feel better. On the outside at least.

No doubt you're 99% right, but I'm (kinda) the 1%

I'm an Arsenal fan from Glossop (long boring story), and my Glossopian girlfriend went to SHU. So I used to time the visits to her place in sheff with the weekends SUFC were playing at home, and fell in love with my second team, attending pretty much every home game and quite a lot of away games. As the EPL decended into money grabbing poncey nonsense, the blades became my equal first team.

Since coming back to UK, my lad has been to 4 blades games, 1 England, and no Arsenal.

Yeah, there’s always the odd outlier :)

I was interested in the claim that the loyalty points system has harmed overall away attendance, so thought I’d have a look at the numbers. I can’t find any details for the season immediately before the points system came in for the Prem, but for 2004-05 we had the following vs teams in the division currently from what I’ve been able to find:
  • Preston (1-0, Gray) - Fri 20 Aug, 12,084 (768 away), think it was on Sky and Jags was sent off
  • QPR (1-0, Gray) - Tues 31 Aug, 13,804 (840 away)
  • Wigan (0-4) - Sat 18 Sep, 10,682 (2,257 away), travelled there from Edinburgh, Jags had a mare, we had the whole stand on the side
  • Ipswich (1-5, Bromby) - Tues 2 Nov, 22,977 (468 away)
  • Derby (1-0, Quinn) - Sat 20 Nov, 25,725 (2,612 away)
  • Millwall (2-1, Liddell, GEARY) - Sat 4 Dec, 11,207 (648 away), “serves you right for Muscat that”
  • Rotherham (2-2, Tonge, Shaw) - Sat 11 Dec, 8,195 (2,823 away)
No data for Reading (18,889) or Leeds (28,936)

QPR this year on a Saturday attendance was 14,128 (away 1,969). Last year on a Tuesday night it was 13,604 (away 1,853). Both over double our 2004/05 total.

Millwall this year 13,145 (away 1,637), last year 12,669 (1,883), both on saturdays and both over double our 2004/05 total.

Preston last season 15,202 (away 3,850), over 5 times the 2004/05 total (though that was on Sky).

Derby last season 30,003 (away 3,109) – bigger than 2004/05.

Ipswich last season 12,057 in the Cup, 15,152 in the league, no numbers I can find I’m afraid, but I was at the Cup game where we must have taken a thousand.

The Loyalty Points system has its flaws (and I would personally like to see it changed) but I can’t see any evidence that it’s somehow been responsible for reducing our away attendances – mainly because they seem to have increased quite a fair bit.

I didn't say you was a liar, just said you was talking crap. Stop being such a pussy.
