Tickets for the derby

I’m finding some of the posts on here at the moment a bit disingenuous and quite frankly disappointing in there views towards Blades , who like me don’t go to every home game , who get there tickets for the games they attend from friends who are able to purchase them for me ,
My points total is too low to get a ticket ( I still haven’t got one ) although I’m trying hard to ensure I’m able to support our team by being at the Lane , instead of London road .
I don’t have to justify my support to anybody on this site as a “ true Blade “ as I’ve put in the hard yards of close to 50 years of supporting our team.
Through thin , thinner , and slighter thicker times
This in no way entitles me to anything or a ticket for any game
But what it does entitle me to say is this ticket policy for one of our biggest games of the season is wrong , this assumption that the pigs are going to come anywhere into our ground mob handed is a fucking fallacy , the only time I saw any pig fans in Sheffield at the last derby at the Lane was on the Lane end itself .
I understand people who go week in week out ( I used to do it ) when I lived in Sheffield , how many points do ya get for traveling from Carlisle to Exeter , to Southend (3 times btw ) Wales to Newport / Wrexham and to every other shit hole we had to go to throughout the 80’s
That’s when for 8 Years I used to travel by ferry on a Friday night catch 2 trains to Sheffield, then do the same to get to work on Monday morning
How many fucking points did I get for that
This was in divisions 3 and 4 ( more glory hunting)
I’m not a fucking glory hunting fan as some ( just because I don’t go to a FEW home games a year )
are posting.
Reading in February will be next “ glory game “
This club and our team got me through a lot of low points in my life , I’m back in touch with people I used to go to school with and the lane with when we stood on the kop together . And we get fucking hammered together when I’m home

So you are registered on the database but your friends don't but tickets using your details? Just wondering why?

The loyalty points system has been discussed many times, even as a League One club when we had small allocations at away grounds. it's not because of the loyalty points system itself but how it's implemented.
Our away support is chronically down on what it used to be and the loyalty points system is to blame, we get a small allocation which the biggest loyalty points holders fuck about with because they're allowed to, they wait for two or three days so that they can sit with Dad, Brother, Uncle, Grandad, Cousin, Friend etc who don't have as many points.
This gives the impression that sales are slow, so the club doesn't get another allocation.
Under normal circumstances and especially when doing exceptionally well we'd have taken 5,000 + to places like Blackburn, Wigan, Preston, Bolton etc who can cater for that many, but we end up with 2,000 maximum at each of them because of the time it takes for our honoured fans to sort themselves out.

I'm sure the club can work out how many loyal fans there are with 20,000 + points and then ask for an allocation big enough to satisfy them, and just sell to anybody with 20,000 points so that those with 50,000 can buy with those friends with 20,000 immediately. It might leave a bit of time for lower points holders to get something arranged

It doesn't matter for the home game against Wendy at all because 25,000 seats are already accounted for by those that go every week, and 2200 are taken by pigs.
This only leaves about 4000 tickets up for grabs to the more occasional fans after segregation and it shouldn't matter who the hell gets them first
So we didn't sell out the majority of away games this season and last season because if the loyalty points system ?

The points system is also in place to manage people through ticket office and to stop people queuing all night to get a ticket. Before the points system we used to have to take away ticket stubs to get priority for the potential sell out games.

What is your alternative solution ?

I've been told that tickets will start to become available to ST holders next week and end up on general sale on the 30th??
Don't know how true this is, but 2 lads at work said they tried to buy tickets yesterday but didn't have enough points, and were told that.
After I was told things by the ticket office, that were bollocks, I cannot confirm any of this, but it may be worth a call for some??
As I have a ticket, I'm not bothered eather way, just thought I'd share what I'd just been told?

So you are registered on the database but your friends don't but tickets using your details? Just wondering why?
That wasn’t the point I was making
It was about part time / glory hunting
Blades coming out for the big games , something that couldn’t be leveled at me, but because I’m not there every second Saturday it seems that it is , or am I being paranoid
Me and my friends are doing nothing illegal officer so that’s no concern of yours what we do

More pressing is, which pubs are we advancing upon?? We're getting the 12:41 from Chesterfield into derby for 1pm.

I have a season ticket, but I don’t see the problem with the casual fan wanting to only go to the big games, some fans will have supported United for years but due to cost, working commitments or living outside Sheffield don’t go every week
I wouldn’t call them glory fans, but still support United
If we got promoted would gain an extra 5k fans at every home game. Its only natural that the bigger games create more interest for the floating fan

Yes we sell out
But they are MUCH SMALLER allocations

I believe in a loyalty points system but it is badly implemented at United

I've offered a few alternative methods of getting the best out of it in this And past threads on the subject

Totally agree with you.

In our first season in league 1 I went to 5 away games and 3 home games. Pretty crap in the grand scheme of things, however I had a 11 hour flight and 4 hour drive to make for each of those games.

Could I get a ticket for the playoff final...could I feck, not enough points despite costing me about 8 grand to make the games I did.

I think the point is this is nothing new but some don't do anything to alter their position ever.

We don't usually sell out. That's the point.

Sound the horn, reasonable comment alert.

I just don't go anymore, I can't afford to, saving for a deposit on a house means as soon as I get paid nearly 60% of it goes into a savings account. My dad goes to games more often than me but even he picks and chooses. Like you said, that doesn't make us any less of a Blade than a ST holder of 30 years, everyone's circumstances are different. I'd like to go to the pig game but as it's on t.v it's a no brainer.

same issue with my old man, never got him a customer number because I've always bought him a ticket or someone else has, he goes to about 10 games a season and has done since his last season ticket years ago. Not seen this before about having 'x' amount of points for a home game and for it not to go on general sale but I guess that's my fault for not registering him. Strange one though, my daughter and niece have enough points but have been to 4 games between them in 18 years and have no intention of going to the pigs game...the benefits of registering them as junior blades all them years ago!!
If he had been this season he would have had to be registered, and you never know, there is a chance that he might be.

My daughter came to a game for the first time in years last season having been all around the world for the last few years and to her surprise she was on the database having bought a ticket many moons ago.

Don't know if she has 500 points or not though ;)

Exactly Scoots , we don’t do this club for the glamour , we do it because it’s in us
My mother / Father and younger brother all followed them
But hearing them cheers as goals went in from Norfolk Park drew me in , now 50+ years later still follow this club of ours , even living in Ireland for over 35 years I’m still coming over , only for mortgage and other adult things I’d be over a lot more .
Your flying in for the derby from abroad , 3 on our flight from Ireland , why cause this club is in our blood .
And when people from Sheffield , who only have to get in a car / bus / tram , criticizes other United fans and I include fans that make the effort to travel from all over the UK as part time / Glory hunters makes my fucking blood boil

I was trying to remember when the one ticket per customer number was brought in. I recall giving my mate my customer number so he could get me tickets.
It was at the start of last season - prior to that I always used to sort all my mates tickets but never used to have to allocate their name to a ticket. At the start of last season they changed the system so that everyone you bought a ticket for had to be listed as 'friends and family' and that you had to tag each ticket to an individual. So because my Mates are too lazy to sort their own tickets and I didn't attach their names to them in the past some of them have been to plenty of games but not got enough points. Whoops!

Also, went to vast majority of games in the promotion season but on sponsors tickets so obviously you didn't get points for them. Not that they were complaining as they were snaffling free snap before the game and watching from the posh seats.

Least I had enough anyway!

We still don't sell out the majority of smaller allocations so. why does this mean the current system is not working

Are you referring to the L1 play off final against Huddersfield ? The tickets went to general sale and we didn't sell out if I recall correctly

I thought the point you making was that you couldn't get a ticket as you didn't have enough points

You have clearly been to more than 10 games over the last 10 years so I can't understand why you don't have more than 500 points

I am, I went via a mate who got it for me...

But that's not the point.

True but what about neutrals/ football lovers who want to witness a big event.
The Steel City Derby attracts interest from fans who don’t support either United or Wednesday.

I was chatting to a Blades season ticket holder on Monday.
He was telling me he rang the ticket office to buy a ticket for his wife, she doesn’t normally like football but said she’d try her first Steel City Derby. The ticket office refused to sell him a ticket, said his wife needs to become a member.

He explained that his wife rarely goes to any match so it wasn’t worth it buying a membership so no ticket was bought.
You never know the wife might have caught the football bug but we are turning our back on potential fans.
Or she could have been a Wednesday fan.

On any sales, home or away. Season ticket holders get a day’s priority, 2 tickets per person. Then General sale, limited to 2 tickets per person. Buyer has to be on our database.

Hi mate, have a look at my PM if you get chance...

Or she could have been a Wednesday fan.

Steady Danny, that's not an accusation to throw around lightly... :)

Didn't our Porcine neighbours get some bad press recently when a guy who was a Wendy tried to take his dying Father (a Leeds fan) to their game against Leeds and the club refused to sell him a ticket in the main stand?

Haha didn’t mean to slander her like that! I meant from the club’s point of view, she could be. So I can understand why they didn’t sell her a ticket

Is that a better system? Why should season ticket holders be allowed 2 tickets? Why should a season ticket holder with say 25000 points who only goes get the same priority for say the Pig game at the Sty over a season ticket holder with 50000 points who goes to every away game?

Yeah, we did the same but we occasionally rotated it, depending on circumstances, such as I’d get them because I was going past the Lane or I was subbing the cost til they got paid, or whatever. More by accident than by design we all ended up on the database.

It’s not about ‘glory seekers’ or ‘biggest blades’ it's about the club trying to allocate tickets as fairly as possible and stop any pork getting in our end. Because the last thing they want is another excuse for SAG to hammer us.

I think it’s caught people out because they weren’t expecting it. If they were, I’m sure most people would have just bought a ticket early in the season and got on the database. Assuming we’re both in the same league next season, everyone has plenty of games to get registered and get enough games in for 500 points, apart from those that live overseas and maybe can’t manage to get to enough. But you just have to accept that, it’s one of the drawbacks of moving away, like not seeing as much of your mates and family.

Truth is, it’s all a massive pain in the arse but getting tickets for big games always is and I’ve been lucky in the past where my mates have queued for hours to get tickets. It’s never going to be perfect.
