The "ole" passage of play

No I don’t believe the players are shouting it, they’re just doing what they should do by keeping the ball. It’s the oles that could maybe be seen as disrespectful, not the passes themselves.
If ‘oles’ are seen as disrespectful then we ought to all just pack life in, never mind football.

As usual you're going to run with this* until the bitter end so l'll leave you to it, but if behaviour is unsportsmanlike against one opponent, what makes the same behaviour not so against another? It's a simple enough question.

*Chess. An enjoyable yet exacting pastime where you learn the value of having to think several moves ahead.
It is a simple question, and a good one. Except you haven’t asked it until now. It’s football, isn’t it. It’s largely illogical. Did Duffy’s goal last season mean more than McGoldrick’s on Saturday? Of course it did. Both won three points though

That’s up to you but it seems a bit excessive. I’d ask you though - what’s the purpose of doing it?

It’s a bit premature giving the “olé” when you’re 1-0 up against Hull, but if we are spanking the pigs with only a few minutes left I’ll be oléing like there’s no mañana.
That’s not allowed, apparently. Pick a path and stick to it

It’s a way of showing our players that we appreciate the skill of keeping hold of the ball towards the end of a game whilst winning said game.

"Why would which team it is matter?"

Post 50.

I'd say it's even more illogical to say something is unsportsmanlike as regards to one team but not for another, based on, err "significance". In fact it's a ridiculous statement .

That's okay. Thems Danny's rules. If we were beating an insignificant team 10-0, it would be unsporting. Unless it's been wrongly reported :)

There's no better way of running the clock down, I thought it was a joy to watch.
Whenever someone runs the ball into the corner, 9 times out of 10 they either loose it within 5 seconds or have a free-kick given against them.
We managed to kill a good minute of that game without them touching the ball, possibly stopping them having 1 last attack.
They can't hurt you if they don't have the ball, reminded me of the below...

Strange how’s there’s more atmosphere in that 2 minutes than there is in most half’s now.

And we were a division lower

Normally I don't care at all about our opponents, but there are some reasonable limits you can set, should you feel inclined. When we played Leyton Orient in the cup in the L1 promotion season and thrashed them 6-0, I guess we could have been 'ole'ing' and taking the piss at the end, but at the same time it would feel a bit like rubbing salt in the wound of a club whose supporters have been through a heap of crap, and a bit tinpot to celebrate so wildly against a team so far below us.

If we had that result vs Man Utd in the FA Cup, then you'd expect that the piss taking would be at maximum, and couldn't really complain for it being so.

Teams in the same division or higher its a free for all as far as i'm concerned. This may be just personal to me though, and others may not agree.

Another here Sean Thornton. And shorehamview. Unless it’s just me you take issue with? Playing the poster again, surely not... :D

See, I’m not sure it is. Hey ho

Fact- If we have the ball the opposition can’t score.

It’s that simple

If you are 1-0 up, what better way to ensure victory than keeping the ball, Christ in days past I was always going nuts when we would sit deep and just defend and kick it anywhere, inviting sides onto us and giving them scope to lump balls into the box.

For the first time in my United following days we have a midfield skilful enough to orchestrate us keeping the ball easily in the middle of the field miles away from our goal. And keep it for several minutes I might add. If teams close us down and commit numbers forward to stop it, we have the blue and ability to go past them and play it behind them and keep it there until they drop back again.
If anyone doesn’t like that then I’m afraid you need your bumps feeling.
No better way to kill the fight and interest in the opposition

I think the atmosphere in that clip was because it was the Bury game where, from memory, we had just scored a very late winner against 9 men who'd done a very good job of keeping us at arm's length.

Danny04 The post said "That’s not allowed, apparently. Pick a path and stick to it"
I said "Like I give a fuck what is and what isn’t allowed. :D"

I presume this is playing the post and not the poster, although I'm not entirely sure why I got tagged to start with.

I know, I get that. But it’s not the greatest leap that some might see something that’s deliberately taking the piss, as disrespectful. (FWIW I don’t, but can see why some might. I agree with the OP that it invites losing the ball and the other team sticking one in the top corner)

Coutts and nor wood never lose the ball

Let me get this straight, you’re saying it’s not possible to show respect to some clubs and not others?

It's now changed to respect? That's not the same as an unsportsmanlike act. Unsportsmanlike being the point all way through.

Feel free to highlight where I've said what you claim, or even used the word respect. Or maybe ackniwledge I actually haven't until now.

I love the ole stuff.

They say money is spoiling football. Equal to money a spoiler in football today is this concern for the feelings of our opposition.

Football is tribal and this over-concern for others has led to the sterile atmosphere in most grounds (sorry stadiums).

There'd be absolute meltdown on here if the chants directed at Paddy Kenny and Lee Hughes were repeated today.

Even the 'tracksuit from Matalan' would upset some of our more sensitive supporters.

Is 'snowflakes' the new terminology?

Post 82. You literally used the dictionary definition. ‘Not showing fairness or respect...’

Yes. In a definition. I didn't say what you'd claimed

"Let me get this straight, you're saying it's not possible to show respect to some clubs and not others"

Now, where did I say or claim that? Those are your words.

You appear to have problem with reading posts correctly and then making claims ( Posts 50,62, 68 and now this) ignoring what's actually being said.
