Hull same team again ??

Its funny how when you are playing well you don't get tired, mental finess is just as important, playing week in week out can make you stale sometimes thats when a manager needs to look at the odd change but when you are collectively playing well leave it alone, every single one of them will be chomping at the bit to play tomorrow , can you imagine Chris asking any single one of them "are you feeling any tiredness, need a rest?" no chance , when a bad run comes along, and it will, look at it then otherwise same again, and again, when do we play Wendy?

Wilder won't want to change a winning team but he has to manage tiredness, injuries etc. You can bet all of those lads want to carry on playing though (and yes, I hope he keeps the same team).

Wilder was playing a few mind games before Blackburn (about resting players), so may do so again.

Do you think he was playing mind games before the Blackburn game? I'm not sure tbh. I think he was genuinely considering changes, until he read my post on here telling him that this "tiredness" malarkey is a load of bollocks and these fit, young, athletic men should be able to play 3 games a week. I think I helped him see reason and I'm glad I could be of service.;)

He's a good manager is our Chris, but he's a bit like my wife. Every few weeks she'll develop this mania for changing things around, for no good reason. I'll come home and 3 piece suite will be in a different position, dining table will be turned t'other way round, she's even shifted the telly t' other side o't room before now. Sometimes I come home and I think I've come t' wrong house! She likes to change things, just for the sake of changing 'em. And then she changes 'em back.

Play the same team if he can, however Clarke for McGoldrick and Duffy for someone are the logical players to rest if he decides to. Hope he doesn’t though. I’d rather 60 mins of Duffy and ease Coutts back in.
Clarke. Why ? Seriously why ?

It is abundantly clear that the team operates MUCH more efficiently without him.

And Duffy for “someone” tells its own story !!

UTB

Did you read the post? I said keep the same team. However I feel he will chop and change a bit so the logical switches out based on past decisions made by the revered one will be McGoldrick and Duffy.

If Duffy can’t play a full game I’d still start him and bring him off when he’s had it. There’s no reason to change the team at all from my point of view but “in Wilder we trust” and all that.

These comments are making me laugh.

‘Don’t change the team”......everyone cries.....as though it’s a game of Football Manager.
Does anyone really think that Wilder wants to change a winning team?
Last season he played the same team most matches and we ran out of steam, looking really tired in the final month or so.

Wilder will have his Sports Science experts advising him. They will have advised that in order to play “high tempo pressing “ football then players need rotating more. Using the squad properly is the key to promotion, he needs to try to keep some players fresh.

Imagine you’ve been driving a car on the motorway for a few hours a the petrol gauge is right at the bottom, almost empty

Would you pull into a garage a put in a bit more petrol ie make changes
Or think fk it, I’m feeling lucky, dont waste time filling up, let’s continue driving.

It’s a gamble that paid off at Blackburn, but would CW be pushing his luck to gamble again against weaker opposition?
Also suspect he’ll play the same 11 away at Derby, so the danger is Wilder isn’t using his squad which will have serious consequences.

Although I want him to stick with the same team, it would probably be a foolhardy risk.
I’m certain he’ll bring in Clarke, as he was man of the match in this fixture last year and probably rest McGoldrick.
Also there’s a chance he might try to bring in .Stearman for Egan, Marvin Johnson for Enda Stevens and possibly Coutts.

The international break will make it easier to keep the same side.
Billy, Duffy and McGoldrick will get a rest of 2 weeks after tomorrow they are the slightly older ones that may need it.
Both wingbacks are putting loads of work in but are still young enough to handle it. Yes Enda is on duty but Johnson could drop in for the Derby game if he is in need of a rest.
Good job Fleck is not good enough to get in the Scottish squad as it means he gets a rest.
Norwood is also away but there's this guy called Coutts (not sure if he will cut it) but he could give Norwood a break v Derby.
The team from the Blackburn game will all want to play, Wilder will want them to play. I would be highly surprised if there is more than 1 change at the most.

Wilder's said it before that he wants a small squad of players that are all capable of stepping in when needed.

With McGoldrick's injury record he may need a little more protection that some others. The international break means less pressure to change a few, but it wouldn't surprise me if one or two were rested or subbed off early.

Only thing that's for certain is that nobody will be dropped based on performances.

We can't risk dropping points ala Birmingham which was 1 but could've been 0 quite easily.

I'd rather get points on the board now than attempt to pre-empt what will happen later in the season. They have 2 weeks off after this game anyway the majority.

Agree with what you’re saying Cartman, I also want us to play the same team.

However we only won 2 of our last 10 matches last season.
The reason was because some of our players were knackered and couldn’t continue playing the high tempo pressing game.

Opposition fans don’t think we’ve a chance of promotion because they say we might have a great first 11 but we’ve a poor squad and if we keep playing the first 11 they’ll tire towards the end of the season. Alternatively we could pack in playing high pressing and then then same players would last a full season, but surely we’d suffer badly if we didn’t work so hard off the ball.

This thread kind of demonstrates why we’ll struggle to reach the play-offs.

We’re at home to one of the worse teams in this league and many have no trust in the squad players.
This is the ideal opportunity to weaken the team to allow our better players to keep performing at their peak throughout the season.

Anyhow according to Wilder our squad is much stronger this season, so we need to see the proof.
Many of our fans have been disrespectful towards Birmingham, they did a number on us defending deep in numbers, so even with our best team we would have still struggled to score. Recent history has shown that the best way to break down a team that parks the bus is using a James Hanson type, but we don’t have any big physical centre forwards to knock down a door.

We should be thinking and planning long term, thinking about the season as whole, it’s not about being top in October.

A question is if we don’t rest some players for this game, then do we rest for the difficult away Derby game?
We play Stoke in midweek the following game, do we play a weaker team against them or leave the weaker team for Wigan?

Ultimately you have no choice but to trust the squad players. It’s the key to wining promotion during a long season.
Recalling Coutts and/ or Stearman shouldn’t weaken us much and Clarke on his day is also highly capable.

think he’ll change a wing back or two
that’s an exhausting position for 3 games a week

Keep the same team please.. options on the bench after 60 mins or so if we are winning or need to change it if Hull come to The Lane to try and frustrate. The first eleven should be on a high after taking 6 points from last two away games.UTB

Start with the same team. It should deliver. If it does, then we can afford a change. If it doesn't, then it needs a change. Not Rocket Science.

Some good points sheff, regarding keeping players fit and reducing tiredness over a season how did wolves and Fulham cope last season or for that matter other automatically promoted teams?

it’s rocket engineering.. making them is the hard bit.. the science has been understood since Newton ;)

Sorry. I feel such a fucking idiot. You are so correct, probably actually well before Newton. Chris, it's not fucking rocket engineering cos that involves some serious intelligence and calculating shit. It's only picking the best team man.

Players played 3 games in a week when the used to smoke 20 a day and have a few beers the night before. Don't know what the fuss is about.

Fuck the internationals. These are our players and we come first second and last. Can't begin to believe any Blade would gamble with a single league point where this is concerned.

Fuck the internationals. SUFC come first second and last where OUR players are concerned. To think differently is fuckwittedness of gargantuan proportions.

I’d like the same but wouldn’t begrudge changes as a squad wins promotion not just 11 players. I say go hell for leather and then rest everyone for the Forest game, so they’re ready for that game we have on Friday as we’ll be 6 points clear going into that game by then ! ;)

They didn’t play the high tempo whole team pressing game and could rely on individual brilliance.

It’s tricky for Wilder because

Wilder the fan chooses no changes, just thinking about the here and now.
But Wilder the manager plans for the whole season and listens to his medical advisors and sports scientists.

Let’s see if he’s learnt any lessons from last season when he tried to play his best 11 every match and we fell away winning 2 of our last 10 matches through the inability for every player to keep pressing as a team.

Of course he could choose “no changes” for this match but he can’t keep playing an unchanged side without suffering some consequences. Also be prepared for Sharp, Duffy, McGoldrick to underperform tomorrow due to playing 3 matches in a week.

I still think he will make changes, only 48 hours between games, hull are a easier opponent than Blackburn on paper and we are at home, reckon a few players will be rested. I know they are professional athletes who can play 2 games in a week etc etc but we will see I guess, everyone thought he was going to change it last night and did he bollocks.
I think Hull be tough today...harder than Blackburn so I hope he keeps same team to start...

i hope we go the same team, going top is a big psychological boost short term. it might be useful to override more long term strategy for once
