So much was talked about this particular player. What a talented, skilful player he is, we've been told, capable of tearing any team a new backside, and that we wouldn't be able to live with him.......

Well fast forward, the morning after and who'da thought that the 'mighty' Blackburn had a member of staff worthy of the praise heaped upon this one player. They might just as well have sat down for the whole game and watched as we passed our way to victory. There was no problem too difficult that a crisply hit pass couldn't answer, there was no way that their attempts at pressing could make us panic. Boys against men, at least that's how it seems upon reflection. The mighty Dack must have locked himself in a cupboard, surely that's the only reasonable explanation for the guy who masqueraded as his understudy.......Dack was cack, there's no other way to describe his ineffectiveness last night. When called upon to step up and show us what he's got, who was there? Someone called Bradley so I've been told, maybe the Big Issue concessionary, wandered in by mistake and handed a shirt?

Perhaps his stay at Gillingham has dulled whatever excellence he once possessed, god knows there was little to suggest the mega-god we were lead to believe would lead the assault on Wilder's Blades. But, all clouds have a lining, silver if not silky cream, and Blackburn can rest assured that if this is the best their prize asset can produce they'll have no fear of losing Dackers in the next transfer window. Well done our defence, like feeding pale believers in a non-existent god to the lions.

Makes you realise just how much talent Chris Wilder has assembled at t'Lane.

Bradley Dack spent most of the match with one eye on who was coming to tackle him, and then trying to figure out just how much effort to take out to avoid whichever player of ours was coming into the tackle without making it too obvious.

They looked like a side that had a squad full of League one players. Ours looked like a squad of quality championship players dotted with potential premier league quality.

He's been excellent this season.

This is like seeing the Birmingham game and concluding Norwood is crap.

Mate last night kept calling him 'Bradley Dackburn Rovers' :D

Did they turn down ridiculous money for him in the summer or is that my imagination?

The Blackburn fans are scratching their heads, normally teams worry about Dack and double mark him and he still performs well.

Last night from the first minute we pushed Blackburn back and they never got any sustained attacks going.
One Blackburn fan has said they’ve never seen Dack sit so deep defending for so much of the game, especially at home.
Basically Dack was totally ineffectual.

As they say, sometimes the best form of defence is to attack, in fact I don’t think we’re capable of putting in a defensive backs to the wall display. Wilder is blowing away the “tough nut to crack, well organised, hard working” reputation built up by Bassett and Warnock.

If we did manage promotion wonder what the media will say seeing us pass the ball in the floor playing a Wolves/ Man City lite style. You can just picture Mark Lawrence commentating on one of our games, he’ll say, “you know what to expect playing a tough, big physical Sheffield side who work so hard making it difficult for the opposition to play their game”.

We stopped him playing and he is obviously the most creative player in their squad. They had no other outlet to give them them a chance to create something.

Dack was playing on the half way line in the second half as there was no where for him to go especially once we switched to a flat 3 in the middle.

He has undoubted qualities, but with the instant hyperbole that is an essential, it seems, for contemporary football, he became a football god on the back of 4 or 5 decent performances for Blackburn. Last night might be a reality check regarding his ability level or it might just be one poor performance. Time will tell, but then again it doesn't seem to get a chance anymore.

to be fair I thought we gave him the respect his obvious talents deserved and didn't let him influence the game, with up top with Graham or deeper in midfield in the second half - just the same as Grealish when we played Villa a few weeks back.

We managed one of their better players very well.

For me, their best player was the No:4 - Reed. He deservedly got Blackburn MOM award. Gave us bits of problems all night - never hid and always made a decent contribution.

We just managed the whole of the Blackburn team very well and gave them a lesson on their own patch.

They'll be nothing more than mid table this season - but they'll want their own back on our pitch.

Welcome to the Championship Blackburn (sorry, La Liga) :)

He has been the best player at either Gillingham or Blackburn for 3+ seasons now. He's not Messi but he's better than you suggest.

You can only play as good as your opponents allow you to.
And when you are outclassed in every department like Blackburn were where do you go.

I'm not actually making judgement on him either way. He has ability and has shown that for Gillingham and then Blackburn in the league below. Like lots of players nowadays, he had a few decent games for Blackburn earlier in the season and he's suddenly touted as one of the best outside the PL. He might be, but he also might just be an unknown quantity catching teams unaware of the qualities he has. As I said last night might just have been an off night for him, but I saw enough to suggest Wilder (actually probably Knill) has analysed these stellar performances and came up with a successful plan to nullify him. Has he got more about him to counter that and continue to be effective? As I said, time will tell.

I reckon he's a decent player to be fair. Not really fair to judge him on the one performance where we were tactically more astute and shut Blackburn down taking him out of the game.

Get your point that they laud him somewhat and he didn't really do anything special. I think they would have a definite Coutts situation on their hands if he got a long term injury in that, the nucleus of the team would be gone and they would struggle.

He’s no Barry Bannan that’s for sure

But the S6 massive still thrashed the poor Baggies 2-2 last night without him.

I would imagine once Bannan-Dack is back, Wendy will go on to automatic promotion, win the FAC, Champions League, Watney Cup, Lombard Rac rally et etc etc..

It's a very simple game and Dack might be a really good player, but in simple terms if you haven't got the ball, then you can't play.

That's probably a bit of a sweeping generalisation and some of you will no doubt point out that Blackburn actually had the ball quite a bit, particularly for the first 20 minutes of the second half. However, it's also a team game and nearly all players need their team-mates to play well for them to do so. I remember going to QPR last season when we didn't play very well and some people were having a go at Coutts (before his injury made him a martyr) for 'being quiet'. I suggested at the time that I thought he was a player that thrived on the rest of the team playing well and would complement that. It's more than likely the same with Dack.

Of course we shouldn't belittle our own achievements and I'm certain that Blackburn's poor team performance was mainly due to how we played. We were just better than them in every department.

He's shit and we dodged a bullet.

It's clear to see.

...or saying that a bloke who has scored 7 this season but 'does nothing' and 'is crap'. Like Dack. Or Billy. :)

End of last August, West Brom were said to have bid £7m for him.

I keep getting reminded by my piggy mate that I said banana was crap last season... what I actually said was that he got owned by Coutts, Fleck and Duffy when we tore them apart. But I’d also see him have bad games when I’d watch the pigs on sky as well...

Now for every game he plays well my mate reminds me that i said he was a shite player. Personally I think that If he’s not doing it consistently agains better sides and in big games then it tells it’s own story of how good he actually is

Same for Dack. If he can’t do it against better sides then you have to ask where his limitations are. One game won’t tell you that, but you can’t tell a lot from one game. He was very quiet last night, but he was up against a midfield which is as good as if not the best in the division.

Ps I spelt Bannan correctly, but it was autocorrected to Banana and thought it sounded better

As one or two in this thread have mentioned, I judged Dackers on this solitary game. Thing is, it's what we do, isn't it? A game happens, we observe a particular player, and whatever assessment we make is based on the level of performance that's delivered. We marginalised Dack. I've seen him before and there have been moments when I thought he might be capable of playing at a higher level. He's fat in the same way Sharp is, so let's dismiss this distraction. I expect a rated player to impress me, sadly he didn't step up. Probably because we didn't allow him to, but these are the problems that a talented player has to face throughout their career.

Last night we delivered a first rate game. We matched and bettered them at every turn. Our game management (a term that's now standard) was excellent, and the overall level of performance from every player was what a promotion team should be expected to deliver. The cherry on this cake was the return of the mighty Coutts. It looks like he's back in his groove, and no doubt the physios and doctors will assess his reactions after each game, but what we saw last night warmed the cockle of this man's heart. What Coutts brings to our game is probably more substantial than many of us think, so well done that man, your presence is going to help the team, and that includes the upcoming derby, now that's a thought!

But how many wanted him a couple of seasons ago and said how good he was?
