I would rather we bought 2 strikers for 2.5m from European leagues. Must be a player we can sign from France Ligue 2, bundes 2, Spanish 2nd Div or Serie B?

Also any decent players playing in Croatia Bulgariaor Romania?

I'm sure there are decent players in the leagues you suggested, but without a scouting network in place, you may as well be suggesting players from Mars.

The Goal Machine has inflated the market again. People scoffed at Rhodes costing £9 mil, but he hit 80 goals in four seasons. What has Waghorn done to merit a similar fee? One good season up north of the border, which doesn't count, and one at Ipswich? Move on.

United's £5 mil limit plus, I'm guessing, £20K-a-week wages ceiling rule out the 20-goal-a-season merchants, so you're looking at development. I championed Joao's cause a year ago but injuries to others means that he's now had playing time and seems to be favoured by Jos. He's looking at younger players and seems to be sticking with those he used in the second half of last season, which probably explains the Westwood situation. As for Winnall, he'll not be fit for the start of the season, but I could envisage a Coutts/Winnall duet as a rekindling of the Hourihane/Winnall double act. He's never played under Jos, so I'd imagine he'd be favourite.

Have Derby actually sold anyone this summer. Their squad must be huge
Accident waiting to happen. I know a couple of Derby fans and they weren't happy with Lampards appointment. They've got a rookie manager, a big squad on big wages with more to come in and an expectant crowd...what could possibly go wrong ?

If I was a derby fan I would be concerned. I don’t think it’s good practice for a young manager to come on and change everything all at once. Gerrard is doing the same at Rangers.

You are left with senior players who won’t be loyal to you and young players that haven’t had time to build a relationship with you. He’s going to have a lot of bad eggs if he can’t shift any of the high earners he doesn’t want and boom.

I find it strange he appears to be signing all forward players or midfielders when they they have enough there already.

They seem to be looking to offload Vydra (which they no doubt will),Jerome, Butterfield, Nugent,Blackman etc. Wages will likely be a stumbling block in that plan.

Come 9th August, there may be a good opportunity to loan and only pay partial wages.

No way Ipswich will do a deal with 4 million down with another 4 million if promoted.I'm sure we could do a deal like that as 4 million is peanuts in premiership terms, that would be a crazy deal for Ipswich.
Surely that deal would not be allowed with a conflict of interest.

Imagine last game of season Derby need a win to guarantee promotion to PL and Ipswich are floundering in no mans land just above the relegation zone. If Derby win they get to the PL money and Ipswich get £4m. If they draw Leeds miss out and Ipswich get sweat FA. I wonder if Ipswich would give 100% in that game?

Surely FA would block a deal like that

But in all seriousness, who on earth is going to take on Nugent or Jerome on the wages they're probably on. It would be financial suicide.

Put it this way, when we've been unlucky with shite on big wages, nobody has been interested and they've either had contracts paid off, or they've just rotted.

Would we take Nugent or Jerome if we only had to pay £15k of their wage?

I hope not, at any price either.

Same here, said on another thread we are not here to help Derby get around FFP whilst they fck up our move for Waghorn by trying to pay on the never never.

So Nixon says Derby are still in for Waghorn yet claims there's only us that's made a bid.
How fucking "in" can they be!?
Yeah if they sell Nugent and Jerome for £10million then they might be able to pay £8mil for Waghorn.... but that ain't happening, then what?
Im still pissed off that they've got Marriott for peanuts, I suppose it probably means we were never even in for him I guess but if they nick Waghorn for the same as we've bid il be fuming. For what it's worth.

I think if we'd got Jerome in last Jan we would have finished top 6
Not sure I'd have him.now though

I still think he’s a cracking player, just not settled well to life in Derby. I would still take him, but they’ve put him on £30k p/wk wages I think I read. The transfer fee of around £4-6m isn’t too bad for him, but that package is just daft.

Suspect he’s on a big salary now and whilst I never blame a player for taking the highest offer, I don’t like taking on players that turned us down in the first place.

Besides, we got another Ipswich striker for nothing that looks twice the player. Unlucky Derby ;)

Funny isn't it how we all knew our biggest need was a striker yet the freebie we got and the fat lad are at the top end of the goal scoring chart !

Waghorn isnt wjat we need. What we really need is a striker.who can run at defences, go past players and create his own chances. But they are few and far between and cost a fortune. Dwight Gayle is a great example of that kind of player. Hopefully our scouting team are busy uncovering a lower league gem in this mould.

That's what can happen when an ex-player is parachuted into a big managerial job without holding the required FA UEFA Pro Licence - which Lampard will 'start working towards this autumn'. One rule for the likes of Lampard and Shearer. One rule for the rest.

I'd like a younger Donaldson.

Bob paisley and Brian Clough never had a pro license. Kevin Blackwell and Graham Westley have them coming out of their ears. I did my level 2 ,don't think it taught me anything I didn't know ,not if I was going to be a manager ,just more money to the FA.

Could he be a potential signing in Jan...

Not convinced by this.

We wanted Holmes and Leonard last pre season and made the mistake in the following JTW. OK, so we made money on Leonard, but from memory it was only us and Millwall who wanted him when at Southend and he was still young.

Think CW should learn a little lesson and move on to others.

Others will become available and if we are (hopefully) siting pretty in the top 4 ,then we could be more attractive to better players. But then there's the money aspect.

If we are in the top 4, then the decision on a centre forward could be the most important decision CW ever makes whilst as manager with us.

Im happy and satisfied we got the better of the Ipswich strikers, without breaking the club record fee as well bear in mind!

I had my doubts about Goldilocks. I also had my doubts about Waghorn

I don't think Goldilocks was Waghorns replacement as CW was still chasing Waghorn after the signing of him

However, as things stand today, we've got the better deal, both financially and on the pitch

Leave Wghorn alone and move on is my opinion today
