The annoying thing is that it seems that CW has been working on this deal for the best part of 2 months and then after coming close to a fee being acceptable, the selling club and the agent leek the news so that other clubs think 'oh he's available is he...' and start sniffing round and putting in rival offers. In this instance, Derby are being a 'lazy' club that CW alluded to in an earlier interview. They just become aware of a nearly done deal and try and gazump the club who has done all the early leg work for the transfer. It's business and its dog eat dog but it doesn't make it right.

I also would like to see CW give Ipswich a deadline date for the offer to be accepted or it he's pulled and we move on. Give them something to think about rather than allowing Ipswich the luxury of taking it to the window end before making their decision leaving Utd potentially missing out and having no more time to do other alternative business. We should tell them it's make your mind up time or we will buy elsewhere.

Whilst I doubt Utd have the necessary players at the moment to get promotion this season, I would put my stake on us being above Derby at the end of this coming season. I think Derby won't come close at all - unproven manager doing his first managerial job, club probably under pressure financially due to FFP if Waghorn deal goes through, very high wage bill, team being very inconsistent, etc.

Just my belief, but Utd will finish above Derby next season.

Don't disagree but they are building a decent squad, as you'd expect with the money they're spending. Our best chance of getting waghorn is getting somewhere close with wages and hoping he sees he's a better chance of playing every week here. Even if vydra goes is he guaranteed that there, im not sure. A lot of similar players

TalkSport this morning reported that Lampard has gone off Waghorn in favour of Marriott after he scored again yesterday.

Derby are selling Vydra for Waghorn? What on earth are they doing!

They can bank 6 mill and save a chunk of wages switching vydra for waghorn. Imagine spending 12 mill on vydra though good old Leeds

If Leeds is vydra’s only option I would sit on that purchase for a while. No way he goes for anything above 10m

Mental. Pretty sure taking penalties away, waghorn scored more than him last season

Wind up yeah? :D

Fickle or what?

No idea pal, I listen to it on the way to work as I can't stand Toby Foster. They reported it as the last section of their transfer round up, mainly because they seem to love Frank Lampard.

We are supposed to have one of the best scouts around yet we have just a few less than top class strikers on our wanted list .. I do believe we should be aiming for a little better than what we seem to be chasing now, who to be honest are no better than what we already have.

I didn't know the wanted list was public knowledge, who's on it out of interest?

Can I see that list please mate?

Yes it is frustrating but as you say it goes with the territory unfortunately. We more or less did the same when we snatched Wilder from under Charlton's (or was it Bolton's) nose after he had practically agreed terms.
It would be nice to be the one who gazumps more often, as opposed to the one who gets gazumped.

It's not about "did they score more goals than Leon" last year. Goals are a massive part granted. Anyone who thinks Leon can play 46 lots of 90 minutes doing the work expected of him by Wilder is massively ambitious imo. Times last season the lad was in desperate needs of some help. Also, he didn't score in around 30 games... I like Leon and think he has a massive role to play still but he's a player we can upgrade on and if you want to improve you have to be ruthless.

As far as I was aware Derby haven’t yet made an official bid. We are still the only club with a bid on the table. Derby will pursue but have to sell first (Vydra to Leeds looking more likely now).

So it seems from reports that the only deals on the table for Ipswich to consider are £4m up front with another £4m if Derby are promoted, or a definate £5m from Utd with a very decent payment structure in place (as stated by CW).

One is less money up front and the possible prospect of more jam tomorrow....the other has a definate £1m extra now. Bearing in mind I think this season is shit or bust for Derby due to FFP rules I would guess, then that is the conundrum for the tractor boys to consider.

If I was in their shoes....is be inclined to go for the money now offer. So unless Derby change their offer, I think CW is right to call people's bluff on this and stick with his original.offer and leave it on the table. I still think there is a very real chance that it might be the one accepted nearer the window end after all.
The player might have a say in this too.

Whatever the clubs agree he isn't going to come here for £5k a week less than Derby will pay.

If wages are the sticking point then Wilder will move on as he only wants players that want to be here.

It’s part of the game and there isn’t much we can do about it...I’m sure we have a deadline and I’m sure we are looking elsewhere also...if summat else lands we’ll move on.

I have no problem with the wealthier teams trying to hoover everything up now and have limited first team opportunities, which will help us take quality loans to supplement what we have.

I would rather we bought 2 strikers for 2.5m from European leagues. Must be a player we can sign from France Ligue 2, bundes 2, Spanish 2nd Div or Serie B?
