Just wondered why Norwood was so poor last night. I commented to my wife that it could be the wind. :)
Of course it's the same for both teams, but I wondered if the wind played much of a part in the game. I watched on the TV BTW.

Could have been wind, maybe he was scared he was going to follow through.

A factor why he was poor was the result.

You often find then when we win, everyone’s rating is exagerrated upwards.
And when we don’t win, especially against weaker opposition, everyone’s rating is exaggerated downward with fans often looking to blame someone (the scapegoat factor).

Interesting that Lundstrum didn’t play but we were still underwhelming, so if Lunny can’t be blamed who can take the blame now?

I don’t think Norwood was poor, he was middle of the road average.
He’s set himself very high standards and he just wasn’t as impressive as he normally is.

Usually Norwood makes good decisions - apart from a couple of passes he made very ordinary ones last night and failed to complete a number. He was over-hitting corner kicks - when he went near post they were easily dealt with. He took a free kick in the last minute and went for glory. But it's OK, like Wilder I forgive him.

My own view is that he got too involved. Everything went through him ,putting a lot of pressure on him after a couple of bad passes but also stunting the play of Fleck and Duffy. Whether that was the choice of Norwood or Wilder Im not sure but Henderson was obviously told to find him at all costs. This combined with him coming too deep and not letting the centre backs out with the ball caused too much congestion and easy marking for Brum ,we needed to alternate it ,I think this will happen on Saturday.

Were the corners over hit or did we not have anyone on the back post ? I would go for the latter due to the amount of corners that went that way.

I thought we played far too much in our own half when we had the ball.
Duffy was deep as was Norwood .
Poor management last night I'm afraid.

Before kickoff I was concerned the wind would ruin the game. However the corner flags were barely moving in the ground so couldn't have had that much effect.

Think the wind influenceing the game has stopped since we filled in the corners

It did not seem that windy last night and especially not in the ground. Corners in the second half from John street side did not clear the first defender.

I thought on the whole the set pieces for both sides were pretty shocking, whether the weather was to blame or not who knows but as was said above the corner flags weren’t blowing much

Maybe he's sick of that annoying song we sang all halftime in Bristol. Sounds like after last night we might not be hearing that again for a while

Spot on. He wanted to be involved in absolutely everything we did which meant he ended up 20 yards away from Fleck and Duffy 1st half.

But second half I think he was just bad, especially last 25 minutes. It happens. Sometimes a bad performance snowballs and the more you try to fix it the more you make it worse.

Fair play to him for staying positive and wanting the ball.

Bearing in mind what you have written - would you advocate Norwood and Coutts in the same side?

Yes more important than systems and tactics are players, and those 2 have too much ability to be left out, coutts Norwood and fleck would be a top class midfield and are clever and adaptable enough to make it work.

I think the wind must have been a factor, many long balls and corners were overhit from South stand side, or not beating first man from kicks taken on John street stand side

I think it's the United culture with corner kicks. When Evans first arrived he was pinging them into the danger area. After a short while it was either plopping them on the edge of the six yard box or sending floaters to the back. Ditto Norwood. I reckon someone had a word with 'em and said oi, that's not how we take corners 'ere lad.

agreed - whilst it may mean not playing Duffy - those three moving around midfield could be awesome at this level.

Can't wait to see it.
