We only arrived in Bristol half an hour before kick off but everything seemed to run very smoothly, I had a bit of difficulty finding my seat, but I think that was mainly due to my own doziness.

Delays on the underground changing in London, delays coming back on the cross couinformatio (still on the train now).

Everything else was fine, information given was helpful and welcome.

2.5 hour drive from London on Friday night. Terrible traffic in Bristol. Stayed in nice hotel. Great city with so many nice places to eat, drink, have a good time. Makes Sheffield look 2nd rate in that respect. Same with the shopping. Really good range of shops from small independent boutiques to the big Harvey Nichols store. Thriving art and music scene. Lovely riverside/waterfront with lively bars and cafes. Just a totally different world from us really.

No issue getting to ground. Just jumped in a cab following lunch here.

No criticism of any player intended but one quality striker today and we’d have won that game by half time. McGoldrick missed two sitters, Sharp didn’t threaten goal once in 90 minutes.

easy drive, parked on grass verge very near ground for free, got to ground about 1.20. Lots more people around the ground than would be at the lane at this time due to band, bars and good quality food outlets at the home end of the ground. similar arangments at the away end as well, no band and food more as would be expected at footy. Had another pint and went in about 2.30. Stewarts all friendly and we did not seam to have our nobhead coked up element there which will have helped.

There ground looks very tidy, even tidied than the lane, certainly one of the better away days. Back home for 8.30, even with a stop at the new posh services. Shame about Fleck, as I'm sure he would have made the difference.

This has made me question my existence as a Sheffield lad I thought we had it all ere guess I was wrong should have known what life was like there after meeting 2 fine ladies with large bristols back in 99 in Malia oh they must be pittying me now

First time I’ve been back in 20 years. I was impressed how much it’s moved on. Sheffield has moved on a lot too in that time. But not as far or as fast and is still further behind.

It means turn left up the stairs. Highly confusing.

Trains from London were fine and we had a good pub crawl of Spoons next to Temple Meads, Wild Beer then the Beer Engine near the ground. No probs. Parson street station near the ground worked well coming back. Decent stadium now but fairly quiet home support. Beautiful city, pubs, harbour and buildings but awful traffic congestion everywhere we went and a real example of poor city transport management.

When I was working in Brizzel, I did a couple of pub tours with work colleagues, it was around the waterfront area, one of the Bristolians told some of the history behind some of the pubs & places, not just the slave trade, but lots of other things that were traded around in those days. Some very interesting history there. Those seafarers were a tough lot and dodgy lot.

Fucking nightmare journey ..... Set off ffrom Manchester Picaddily at 8.30 am due to arrive at 12.30 in Bristol (change at Newport due to engineering works apparently.
Plan was to haver a few bevvies and a bite to eat in Brizzie before the match.

Train got past Crewe near Nantwich and held up for 20 minutes before announcing that they couldnt go forward due to a faulty level crossing and therefore train had to return to Crewe station and it would terminate there as the driver didnt have the knowledge to go a different route !

Then told that they would put everone on a train that went BACK to Chester and down through to Newport and South Wales.
I asked the guard what time he expected it to get to Newport and he said about 2.30 PM !!

Decided to get a train to Birmingham instead and then get train to Newport and change there for Bristol.
Delays on track again getting to Newport and connecting train was delayed and getting more late so opted to get on a train to Exeter which had 2 stops instead of one to Bristol and finally arrived at Temple Meads at 2.35

Got a taxi to ground with a couple of Blades fans who were also on my train (one was a 5 year old kid) and to cap it all we fucking lost didnt we !!!

Not really a lesson was it? Just a sentence, but point taken. I'm able to be patronising on a range of different subjects that I know very little about.

I was just pointing out that a large number of Africans, a number very similar to the population of Sheffield funnily enough, went through the port to a life time of unimaginable misery, and a lot of those nice buildings in the city centre were paid for by their misery & a big wedge of the £16bn that we paid the slave traders to stop trading, sat in the bank accounts in the city, and made sure that the city and its wider environs flourished. If for any reason Sheffield doesn't have as nice a collection of Georgian buildings, then it's something I'll put up with, because as a generality my city was built on honest labour, was a centre for the abolitionist movement and did not profit from the misery of my fellow man. Everyone is free to have their own views, but Bristol is not a city i particularly care for.
