Decent Blades players you'd completely forgotten about

Littlejohn used to live next door to my Mum and Dad and can confirm, a lovely lad with a lovely family. Whereas his mate Nathan Blake........... rayt arrogant cunt.
When I said on 606 that Blake could do with losing some weight, some Welsh twat said “he’s not fat, he’s big-boned” - my reply of “well, he’s got a big arse bone” won me no friends in the principality......

Well I believe the forum has been on the go since about 2005 so the first ones may have been Ndlovu/Nlove/Ndlove or McCall/MacCall/Macall/McAlle.

Posters would also have had a field day in Don's days with Petr Katchouro (that's how it was spelt in the programme), however according to good ol' wiki, it should be Pyotr Kachura.

Weirdly, the game you mention, I watched that live on MOTD at someone's house actually on Shoreham Street right behind the kop. It was odd as there was a 2-3 second time delay between the cheering heard outside to the TV. Dwight Yorke's 'panenka' winner - cunt.

I was in Oxford that weekend. I travelled up by train via Birmingham. Because of the snow it took 4 and a half hours each way, I missed the start and had to leave before the end (the last time I did this) to make my train back. The train from Brum to Oxford had no lights or heating. And the game was live on TV. I must have been out of my mind.

The game was selected for TV before we'd played Arsenal in the 3rd round replay. The Beeb thought that they'd get a plum tie of Arsenal v Villa. Unlucky!

Scott Marshall. I remember him coming on loan as a young lad from Arsenal, and I thought he'd go on and make a career at the top level as he was very good for us. Think he ended up at Millwall and drifted down the league's though (which is in keeping with my predictions!!).

Blake was quality though. Just poor attitude and not fit. But his touch and skill and strength were excellent.

Paul McGrath
Absolute quality. was on his last legs (literally) when he signed for us . His knees had gone , he didn't train and couldn't run , but we somehow got a handful of games out of him before he had to finally chuck in the towel , and he gave us a glimpse of what an outstanding player he was . He didn't move about much , he couldn't , but he could read the game so well that he was always in the right place to make a tackle or interception, and his passing was still superb.

One of the games was against Forest. I'm sure he still has Van Hooijidonk (sp?) In his pocket somewhere. Defensive masterclass!

Peter Duffield. Deadly in the six yard box, but did nowt outside it. Also he seemed to score every time he took a penalty.

Just checked - he scored 7 out of 7.
I remember we were losing 1-0 to Pompey on a Tuesday night and he scored two virtually identical penalties and we won 2-1, we played terribly and both were dives (Bradders and Francis). That same promotion season he scored a vital goal at Swindon in a 2-0 win on a Sunday and broke his leg in the process. A really important player under Bassett, thanks for mentioning him!

Willie Falconer. Quality midfielder totally unsuited to Late Bassett style of play.

Bruno Rebeiro was another who looked a class above, albeit in flashes.
2 of the worst players to ever play for United ,both easily in my top 10 ,Falconer is top actually ,why don't you put Brian Howard and David Carney in there too ?

Andy Morrison - hard as nails.
Henri Camra ,I have a mental block here as I cant remember him at all.

Howard might have been a decent player, in a side where his standing instructions weren't to stand within twenty feet of Darius Henderson waiting for knock downs.

Scored the winner in a 1-0 win at home to Peterborough. My lad's first game. Mark Bunn saved a George Boyd penalty. Good player but dodgy hamstrings meant we didn't get many games out of him.

I don't think I've seen Carl Tiler mentioned. He was the lesser shouted about alongside Holdsworth and McGrath before his move to Everton but was a good, dependable defender.

Keith Curle was pretty good for a season.

I put in a shout for Tiler earlier on in the thread.

Paul Parker was mentioned on Radio 5 this morning, didn't we have him for a few games on loan at some stage?

Oh and another who comes to mind every so often - whatever happened to Simon "great prospect for the future" Francis? Surely he'd never end up captaining a side in the Premier League would he???

Paul Parker was mediocre at best and at his worst - Bradford away on Boxing Day 1996 - was absolutely dreadful.

How about Iffi Onuora? I met him when he was working for Lincoln City - he had the biggest head I'd ever seen - like a bleeding bowling ball! I didn't have the heart to tell him that all I remembered of his time a BDTBL was him missing a sitter past the right post in front of the Kop on a Tuesday night game!

Apparently once he left Lincoln he went on to manage Ethiopia. That's one I didn't see coming. :)

Andy Kennedy! Tall,Scottish striker signed On Loan from Brum (?) in Late 80s.Scored an absolute worldie at Bramall Lane v Blackburn(?) never really heard of again at Blades,as we didn't sign him permanently.Ended up at Blackburn,I think.

Jim Bone . We signed him from Norwich with Trevor Hockey going the other way if I remember rightly? A Scottish International striker , John Harris brought him to play alongside Billy Dearden , & for a while they formed a very good partnership. Unfortunately his early promise did not last , & he finished up going back to play in Scotland.

Michael Vonk.

One of Kendall’s first signings, showed up the back line almost immediately, and from memory weighted in with a few as well. Looked a top class defender but did his cruciate after a year and was never the same player after
