For all the superlatives flying around about all the other players, rightfully so as well, i just want to give the skipper some praise as well.
I thought he put in a real shift, never stopped running all afternoon, getting in the right places and did what he always does and took his goal clinically.
Don’t know why but some people are quick to pick up his limitations, and there is a couple, and some people dismiss him because of his age, and others because he has never played higher than this level for any length of time, but we should just appreciate him for what he is.
He is a very good, solid and hard working professional, he is a real talisman and the focal point of the team. I know supporters of others sides hate him as when they see his name on the teamsheet they think not him again, as he always seem to score against them.
In my personal opinion, although he is getting older, and he won’t go on forever, I still think he has another 5 years left in him at least. His game isn’t just about the physical attributes, but also intelligence and knowing where to be at the right time. I can remember Kevin Phillips still being a top striker at the age of 40, and I don’t see any reason why Billy Sharp can’t do similar.
I’m just glad that he is ours, one of our own, and we are lucky to have him.
