Deserves his own thread. Was easily a 9/10 in my view.

The amount of headers, interceptions and other clearances from him was staggering, and I'd be interested to see some stats on this.

Every time the ball went into our box, it was dealt with comfortably and we never looked like conceding. This is a follow on from Bolton last week.

Egan was the main reason for this today. Extremely solid and convincing display from him.

If he carries on like that, then there's no doubt he'll be worth the fee.

We won 4-1, sliced them to ribbons, cut them a new one, pissed all over them, run them ragged, took the piss and you give a defender top score?

Not at all having a go at Egan but the defence today were on the sunbeds.

Although he’s not a tall centre-back by modern Shawcrossian standards, he has a very athletic leap and good timing. In addition he usually heads it clean and gets very good distance on it.
Very???

You changed it. Stopped at very on mine

Sorry :)

Agree with Ricky.

Bruce knows jack all.

Egan class today.

Along with the entire eleven + 3

10/10 clearances, the next most was Chester with 6/6.

7/7 headed clearances, next most was O’Connell with 4/4. He also has 2 blocked shots which was the most.

I would recommend the app stats zone if you’re in to stats. I got it this season for the first time and it’s really good, there is a subscription fee of £3.99 per season, per competition so pretty decent value.

Not an unlikely scenario that he might head it clear from the penalty spot and get an assist sometime soon.

Glad it's been pointed out how well he's settling in that back 3.

There were some (not many) doubts about him; was he worth the fee? Do we want Brentford's cast-offs? Etc.

He's undoubtedly made us stronger at the back, starting to seem like another bargain.

Just gets on with it too ,no fannying abart just gets on with it. Love players like that. He will be on a fraction of what Jedinak ,Chester ,El hamady and Hutton are on but he OConnell and Bash were so much better against so called better players.

I’m sure someone will correct me and Maybe wrong thread, but I’m not sure villa didn’t have a single touch of the ball in our box first half...if so that basically sums up how dominant we were today, up there with the best ever 45 mins

Not at all having a go at Egan but the defence today were on the sunbeds.

For me there were just four obvious candidates for MOTM today.
The Goalkeeper
The Defence
The Midfield
or The Strikeforce

I've narrowed it down to just them.

That's rubbish mate

4 assists and 3 goals from defenders in the last two games.

That is all.

Egan was a beast today.

But how are we going to get a 20 goal a season striker if the defenders keep stealing all the goals? The game's bent

Teams can't just sit back and let us slowly build up to their box and break o us when we give it away

Today was a sample of how much we missed Coutts second half of last season.with Norwood being a Coutts like replacement today

Oh come on the 9/10 players were midfield upwards. I like Egan and the other defenders but today wasn't about defending was it.
At times it was ,they didn't play through us ,they couldn't but when they went long we didn't look nervous and weak like at times last season

Egan getting better every game he was a tower of strength today ,great team performance ,he was a leader in the centre of our defence sets a great example

OK pal, but I saw this as a day off for the defence. By the way Norwood, Fleck and Duffy were that darn good they stopped the defence having to worry today. For me this was not a day to praise the defence, it was a day to heap praise on the midfield.

The best buildings are built on sound foundations.

The midfield has been praised plenty, and that was our most impressive area today by a mile.

But just because you dominate most of a game doesn't mean it's a day off for the defence. We still had plenty of balls into the box to defend and the stats seem to back that up.

Don't mean to be an arse Ricky but our defenders were pretty much this today:

Just got this, thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately it doesn’t include statistics on the number of gloves worn by Leon Clarke
