The positive to the one year contract is it could be seen as last chance saloon for him and get better performances out of him this season.

We'd take that, but then the problem would be getting him tied down to a longer one - with an inevitable wage increase.

I think it's a no-lose. If he starts scoring, fine, get a years worth out of him. If he bombs, also fine & get rid. If he does the impossible and gets us promoted, also fine, get rid as he won't be good enough. This signing is about as low risk as it gets.

Think the fact that he agreed to have his contract terminated to move here should show a lot about his character, i would guess hes on less money here but obviously wants to play so good for him.

Literally no risk for us and should have no impact on any other targets we are chasing.

He lost his way after signing for QPR but before that had real potential.

Hopefully we can get him back to his best.

There'll be an option in my opinion for us to extend.

Bit of a strange one, looked brilliant a couple of seasons ago albeit in League 1, another of those, like Holmes and Leonard, who seemed to score every time you watch the goals on a Sunday. Unlikely to go straight into the team but, decent age and something to prove.

My main concerns:

1. I’m not buying his shirt. Far too expensive!

Just think if we'd signed Britt Assombalonga. That's £1.50 x 17 = £25.50 just for the name!

Anyway, if you go for a 'Conor Washington' shirt it will be £1.50 cheaper than you thought. Hopefully the guys in the club shop can spell better that the OP...:D

Inexpensive signing
Contract cancelled by QPR's cash strapped owners, must rate him
No transport costs, their fans have offered to drive him up here
£12m in back pocket
No ambishun spent
Hope a surprise is in the wings!

Agenda post, no tin hat bring it on
Haven’t QPR’s owners provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate they know less about football than Chansiri?

£12m? So Egan and Norwood cost nowt? Maybe you’re QPR’s accountant, that would explain a lot.

  • Hungry, point to prove.
  • Previously prolific, no reason to suspect he can't be again.
  • Pacy, what we need.
  • Poacher, perfect for how we play.
  • An example of biding our time, watching his contract and waiting til they had two new ones in (Wells and Hemed) meaning we get our man for free after his contract is terminated.
Shrewd, shrewd business by Tufteh. Potentially prolific striker for no fee.

Bang on (except for the prolific bit perhaps).

+ with experience of Championship football, so no learning curve there neither.

Iv said for weeks that we are a quick, direct striker off being a very good side - and Washington has the attributes.

We almost don't require him to be prolific, because Sharp and Clarke can take care of that. All he needs to do is pull defenders apart and allow space for one of them two to do what they do best - anticipate.

I don't think he is the ideal signing for the fans or CW. However he is a definite improvement on Lavery.

Sharp
Clarke
McGoldrick
Washington
Lavery (May leave yet)

Or

Sharp
Clarke
Ched
Donaldson

I know which one I prefer.

You’re right. But it’s very marginal.

Don’t get the confusion about his 1 year deal. No two ways, this is a ‘punt’ of a signing. For years and years, this was the sort of player we would give 3 year deals to and then realise they were sh*t after 2 months.

No I aren’t saying Washington won’t bw good, but a one year deal makes perfect sense. If he’s good, we can extend, if he isn’t good, we can release for nowt! Excellent business for me, don’t particulary rate him (or his record) but they have gone about it in absolutely the right way and am willing to wait and see.

The fact that his contract was terminated and signed on a free could suggest that we are still in for a couple of loans

We demanded for pace for years we get it?

We now want pace with goals. Aguero anyone?

Where can I find confirmation of his contract length? I assume its 1 year with an option to extend

Happy with this as a cheap, low risk punt. Need to back it up with a tall striker with a left foot, and, of course, with pace and skill.

Agree. He's a 'could do a job' signing, as were Cresswell (27 goals in 124 apps.), Shipperley (11 in 39), Stead (8 in 39), Kitson (11 in 33) etc. Nobody got excited about any of them, but they were worth bringing in.
