Evening all,

I'm meeting my ma for lunch before the Villa game next month and wondered if anyone had any good recommendations for places to eat nearby.

I've been to the stadium a million times but pre-match food for me has only ever been from the chippy or a burger van! Ideally want a place to sit. Not picky with food really.

Ta!

I suppose you could take your pick from lots of different eateries on London Road. I think a lot of them are cheap and cheerful tbh - but if you're wanting a restaurant rather than a pub there's CandyTown Chinese, which is very good value I think, there's Zeugma (if you fancy Turkish kebab type stuff) and further up there's Wasabi Sabi (Japanese Teppanyaki - it's...ok. a bit pricey for what it is tbh) and Rossi's Italian (not been for years). There are dozens of others as well, but these are some of the more "restauranty" type places.

I hear the Clubhouse pub does decent food on match days - filled rolls with hot roast beef or pork - and decent burgers and stuff. Assuming you can get a seat. And there's Sheaf Island, the big Wetherspoons near Waitrose if that's your kind of thing. Or you could go a bit further out and have good beer and pies and stuff at the Broadfield.

Try Tamper on Arundel Street. The scoff is good and you're not that far from the ground. Best to find out the exact location as Arundel Street is long-ish.
You might also consider The Sentinel on Shoreham Street.

Both excellent recommendations Sir!

There's also the cafe on John Street above the Cricketers.... can't think of the name.

Brilliant, cheers for all the recommendations. Knowing me mum, Harland Cafe looks like a winner. Cheers for all the others mentioned though - definitely handy to have a load of options to choose from!

Brenda's chippy just off Matilda Street/back of the Moor. Its a sit down place and you must be dying for some decent fish n chips after the overpriced shite you get in London!

Haha. There are many things I love about the trips up to Sheffield each year. Price is right up there with the Blades and the Leadmill.

Wouldn't be a match day for me if I didn't visit the Moor Fisheries pre game. Ultimate tradition and great food.

And you can have a chat to Duffy's dad while you're there. He's usually there before the game.

When I have my young lad with me he loves to eat from 'assault and batter' prior to the game and we always enjoy it. However, I had a couple of mates over for the Swansea game and we wanted a proper sit down meal in the mid afternoon before the game. Ended up having the buffet in the copthorne restaurant. Eat all you want with an excellent selection of both hot and cold food for £16 per person. Good food and service in a comfortable convenient location.

As an addition to the recommendations already, Satay Yo Beer is good on London Road (pan-Asian), as is Dim sum.

The tapas/small plates at the Beer Engine are good, also.

Heard the mexican on there was voted one of best in u.k,(might be amigos that others have said). Also the clubhouse is rated high on tripadvisor.

If your in car then there’s some terrific places further down on abbey dale road

If it’s your Mum Vero Gusto off Fargate is very good but in my view overpriced. Deli cafe at bottom opposite Crucible is sound too and the road has the United plaque on the wall.

Now that yankees has closed Sheffield has lost its bright star! Ashoka is ok but over tarted up nowadays.

The new Wetherspoons at St Pancras has opened, so maybe fill her up there and let’s her snooze in first class on the way up with your money saved??
