If bits of jigsaw don't drop into place CW will save money until January. Lavery now has squad number, insurance?

Lavery has the condemned man's number 30, formerly awarded to Louis Reed in training last year after his previous number was given to Lavery, which was then given to numberless John Brayford when he was included in a squad so had to have one. Lavery's future here is as bright as it was for the other two (although quite why he couldn't just keep 22 and be treated like a normal squad member til he leaves is a mystery).

I reckon Wilder is already aware that his number 1 striker target might not happen, things can always go wrong regards transfers.
So you would expect him to have a plan B target and even a plan C target.
Basically I’m sure we’ll bring in another striker, no matter what .

Well he's had all summer to draw up his target list and you would assume some of them fall into the 'getable' category

If we don’t get a striker in It’s not been a great window... given that was our primary target all along. Genuinely feel that could be the difference wmbeteeen is being able to compete at the top end of the table and 10-15th.

I’m sure we will - but maybe we need to force a clubs hand like they do when we sell key assets.

The only way you can force someone to sell is make them an offer they can't refuse.

Problem there being CW will only pay what he can or more admirably what he thinks their value is.

The problem is bringing in a striker guarantees nothing. Ask the Derby fans. We’ve brought in plenty of midfielders who all failed to improve the team. Until now of course we’ve signed the “Bentley” of midfielders. We just need to find the “Bentley” of strikers if that’s possible.

Sharp and Clark are both good but will get injuries, suspensions and go off the boil.

McGoldrick judging by history isn’t prolific and is injury prone.

Lavery isn’t good enough.

I would say it’s vital another striker is signed, we also need more goals from midfield.

Vital, essential, critical, another capable body comes through the door. January is a long way away

You say it's "Number 30", well that's how it may appear when he takes to the field wearing it. But that's because they remove part of the lettering. It's actually not a "3" it's a "B" and it stands for "Bugger Off".

Believe it or not wilder is aware of not having a striker in yet, honesty, I realise some are starting to have a nudge at him, but take it from me wilder is aware and he is serious about trying to get promotion, great result yesterday and we are soon into having a bit of a dig, give it a rest,

We can’t go into the first half of the season with Lavery as fourth choice. He struggled to get in Rotherham’s side.

If we don’t sign a striker it proves our ambitions.

Can we just clarify something here because it seems to be passing people by, Wilder isn't after a "Striker" in its broadest term he's after someone to lead the line. Seen people going on about dropping Leon, but for who? we don't have anyone he is the only forward at the club who can play that particular role he even said pre season that McGoldrick isn't that player. Reason why Gallagher's name keep cropping up is because he fits that mould.

Id say Woodburn is? Only reason he made bench today was due to Duffy being unfit. Not saying we don't need someone mind

If we don't bring in a striker then we're obviously not too bothered about achieving anything this season.

Yes, and if we do bring in a striker it's ok with Sheffsteel if it's the plan B or plan C striker.
When we don't get plan B or plan C we will go for plan D from League One
When an ambitious League One club snatches our plan D because of the agents we can meekly look for our plan E

Sad thing is, rather than not bother signing our underwhelming plan E striker........we will sign him

With defenses so deep, relying on counter attack speed is no longer the solution. Billy proves whats needed is the intelligence and repetitiveness to take up a position. With Clark and McGoldrick in a three, the midfield has 3 targets to attack with and for the wing backs to run off - another older intelligent striker upgrade might be the solution.

We need another striker, even if it's just a punt on a raw Premier League youngster until January. If not, and we get injuries, we're stuck playing with a formation we're not comfortable with.

We need a new striker. This is new information.

Go OFF the boil.....so Leon is ON the boil at the moment?

Leon is so off the boil that I think the fuse in the kettle has gone.....if this is Leon on the boil we are truly fucked when he does go off it...

Leon was fine against Norwich. Did you mention Sharp being off the boil when the kettle wasn’t even in the kitchen last season?

We’re really racing against time here. Only 12 days to 31st August. This is a real 999 job...

Dem Blades....
We should have a countdown thread with a day by day account, bit like big brother.......

Read it in a Geordie accent.....

.....day 12 to go in the McCabe/BRP house, They still have a firm grip on most of the £12m, respective lawyers are thinking of ways to get it off them whilst...... In the kitchen Chris is checking his stash of peanuts to see if he can swap em for some magic beans......

Certainly did....and neither were great against Norwich. A faster more positionally aware striker would have converted at least 1 of the several chances we created....3 times at least the ball fizzed across their box and each time it was wasted....had those chances been created for Rhodes at the other end the result would have been very different.

SHEFF U. Willing to pay big wages for main loan target now. Biggest ever forked out. But it’s only for a season. So that works. Details online or paper.
