CONFIRMED David Brooks to Bournemouth

Watching Match Of The Day, Brooks had a penalty shout when he went down in the penalty area. It made me laugh that the Cardiff fans were singing 'Same old England, always cheating'. That would be the WELSH international David Brooks! (OK, he was born in Warrington!).

Clear foul by Brooks. That was the only moment of note for him in the highlights, I don’t think he saw another touch of the ball...

Because £12m was a graaaate deal for him and Bournemouth were just adding him to their squad for the sake of it.

Nobody said they were adding him to their squad for the sake of it

Other than when he missed the that open net. Shame as that would’ve been a massive confidence boost.

Strangely, I don't think he would have started for us today if he had remained with us.

Ffs I saw the 'confirmed' tag at the top of new posts and thought we'd confirmed Norwood.

Anyone still think we got a good fee for him? (4 million upfront). He will be worth £20 million+ by January.

Probably but he'd have had to have played regularly for us (not guaranteed based on last season) until at least January to be worth £20 million directly from us and it seems he wouldn't have wanted to. I think £12m is a bit less than about right but not miles out.

No point whinging about it now, best we can hope for is that he's worth £100 million to someone in a couple of seasons and we've got a 20% sell on.

The upfront element is a red herring. If the fee was £12m then that’s what we will receive for him. If it’s £4m and the rest is contingent on appearances etc then it’s not enough. But I’ve not read anything suggesting that this is the case.

I still think £12m is a good fee.

I could argue until I’m blue in the face that we should have got £20m. But there’ll always be somebody telling me “he’s not proven” or “he’s barely played”.

I don’t care if he hasn’t played and proven himself. It isn’t my money. It’s someone else’s. These PL clubs have bags of it and we don’t exploit it. Is Maddison of Norwich really worth twice as much as Brooks?!!!! Behave.

Whether you think we understood him or not (I think the price was fair tbh), the price you mentioned is incorrect.

He was sold for £12m guaranteed, with a further £3m depending on various conditions being met so potentially £15m.

He wasn't sold for £4m. We sold him for at least £12m. The £4m is the initial stage payment of the guaranteed £12m and this is the way all transfer fees are paid I.e. in stages. All transfer are done this way. No one pays all the fee up front for large transfer fees. When we bought Egan for £4m we won't have given em a cheque for the full amount on the day he signed. We will have done the same as everyone else does and we will pay Brentford the £4m fee in increments. It helps clubs with cash flow.

So if we are going down that route of logic then yes we only got £4m for Brooks, but then we've probably only paid £500k for Egan & Norwood a piece, we've probably only.paid a pittance so far for Henderson and Woodburn (loan fees).....etc. it's swings and roundabouts. What really matters is what we are definately going to get into the club in the next 2-3 years as the fee gets paid in full.

Even at £12 million, it is a fee vastly below what his very near future worth will be. I agree with this Bournemouth fan:

'An absolute bargain. When he leaves to join Manchester City in five years time it will be for many, many millions. What a prospect.'

Did you mention this when he was awful last week?

Couldn’t give a fuck like Maidenhead says as it’s now in the past. It was a good fee. He will have good games and bad games for them. He’s playing with better players so that helps as he is not the main attraction anymore. It was a good move for him. As a youngster with massive potential, he’s gone to the right Premier League club because of Eddie Howe.

Would love him to have stayed but if he’s got a big contract and is starting regularly, then fair play and good luck ! But it is still unclear just how good he will be.

I’d rather him leave and be playing rather than sat in the under 23s somewhere

Clubs don't pay for future worth, they pay worth

Good points.

Evil child-stealer McCabe forced him to go when we all know he wanted to stay and score 30 goals for us.

Wilder was telling his Ched lies again, when he said Brooks wanted to leave.

BOO to United.

BOO!

With the Brooks money we will have brought in Norwood, Egan, Mcgoldrick, Henderson, Woodburn, Bryan, and probably another 2 to sign before the loan window closes.

That's probably 8 players for the loss of one very decent prospect. His move was a win win for all concerned. I wish him well but really I couldn't give a shiny about him now. He's passed through and been very good for our club.

No club was prepared to pay any more for him, he was worth £12mill.
If he goes on to be a star for Bournemouth, it won't mean we undersold him, it's impossible to know if he will become a top player or flop.
That won't stop idiots from swearing they knew from the start he was worth as much as Maddison ect. If that's true, why the fuck was nobody bidding anywhere near that price?

Yeah and a player is never worth as much until they have shown they are competent at the top level. Don’t have to be immense just able and they automatically become more expensive. Hence it being a punt, the same as many clubs do. Fleck anyone ? Free to £8m (guess). It’s just how it works

Edit - what did we pay for JOC and what bid did we turn down ?

The only sale which really pissed me off was Kyle Walker. A blind deaf mute who had lived all his life deep on the forests of Papua New Guinea, would have known that KW was gunna be a big big player.

That sale for £3m was fkin criminal.
