We looked a lot more dangerous against Leicester when Cotts and Reid were on. Webber ended up being half the player he was due to being played in a position that was alien to him. Is the same going to happen to Ward?

As for the subs, it sends out the wrong signal to name fewer than the allowance. It makes us look weak and on the back foot from the outset. Also, surely it's better to have more options on the bench? Otherwise we might as well only name 3 subs.

Yeah but its a different story away from home, so Cotts and Reid may not always work

As for Subs, completely irrelevant, as long as we have enough options as cover then I see no problem. I don't see it as sending a message to the opposition.

Fair enough, Swiss. We'll agree to disagree :)

:D

Obviously Blackies doing something right... 1-2 up away from home and with a sub less!

Plus Away changing rooms are smaller so we may not have had the room for the full sub allocation either that or Blackie couldn't fit him on the Minibus

Yet anothe rmiraculous Halt time talk form Blackie salvages the game into something blades fans can cheer about.

Matt - no offense but surely (yet another!) a gola from Ward today proved that he's on the pitch cause he can score...

Ted Danson - nice one! hope you put your money on that!

As for Hendrie - he picked an injusry up in the reservise and will be on the bench for the next game.

Regarding the lack of a 7th. It wasn't needed. With Howard and Hendrie injured there was no need to put someone there "just for the experience of sitting on a bench". He clearly thought he'd got adequate cover for the other positions and didn't need another striker or winger on the bench!

Marvelous result.
Ward, Quinn, Cotts, Hendo, Monty, Walker, Treacy were all excellent.
Killa, Morgan, Taylor were all solid.
Bunn flapped at a few but as a whole was solid
Evans drifted in and out of the game, had a few very good cameo bits but as a whole was anonymous.

I was never suggesting that Ward shouldn't be on the pitch - i'd play him up front with Evans and play a proper winger-by-trade on the wing. Can't complain at the result today, though! Well done lads :)

Henderson was our best forward today by a mile. Had a great goal disallowed for a 'push' and was particularly good when we played the ball on the floor in the second half. You can't possibly drop him at the moment.

Just seen the goals on the red button, Cotterill's was a beauty!

More good strikes this season than the whole of last.

how would you go about doing that then ?

Watching it? You'll have to wait now I think, Final Score continued if you pressed the Red Button and they showed our goals. I don't think they're on there now though, sorry. :(

Behave yourself. Don't know you know that any praise of Henderson is strictly banned on any Blades message board.

Blackwell only plays him cos he wants to justify his 2 million price tag, erm bit like he always plays 2 million pound Cotterill...

Ward, Quinn, Cotts, Hendo, Monty, Walker, Treacy were all excellent.

Sorry, can't agree with Walker being excellent.

I've no problem with him going forward and his tricks are wonderful, but defensively, he was a weak link. Perhaps you had to be there to see his poor positional awareness today (it's a bit hard when you're watching and can't see the full pitch) but he got caught in no man's land a few times and was turned inside far too easily due to a lack of decisiveness. His tendency to wander drew Morgan out wide a few times when there was danger in the middle and he was very lucky to get away with a few last ditch tackles that ought to have been fouls in Reading's favour.

I'm not one to whinge for the sake of whinging, but it's something that needs to be cut out. Especially as he is such a useful asset going forward.

On the whole, a good team performance but a frustrating case of only playing for 45 minutes again. Reading were lacking any real outlets, their only action coming down the left when Walker went wandering. Quinn's goal was a beauty, be interesting to see exactly why what should have been our second was disallowed, what ended up being our second was a gift and Cotterill's goal was magnificent.

Ward played extremely well and got stuck in when he needed to as well. Hendo put himself about a lot more than he has done so far and Evans, unfortunately, was playing far too deep to be effective. Quinny had a good game despite an early slip under little pressure and a few balls going astray. Monty's passing was excellent today. Morgan got us out of some sticky situations and Killa was strong. I thought Taylor had a good game, pushing on and providing support to Ward when he switched wings when Cotts came on. Bunn does seem to like punching it which I don't have a problem with if the danger is cleared.

A big shout out to the ball boys and United fans who played their part in wasting time towards the end too :D how many balls can we get on the pitch at once?!

Poor performance first half. who ever said walker was excelent where the hell was you he got skinned all over. 2nd half a different team we passed them to bits.
Atmosphere was amazing! in the second half, dissapointed with the number of blades that went though was pretty poor to say we get 23,000-26,000 at home

Blades@Reading

I thought Bunn did ok - he can improve on crosses and organisation I think.

Our support was scattered but quite vocal - got a lot better as the game went on - almost party time at the end. Which was quite a turnaround from the first half given the fairly dire performance - grumblings of discontent until we scored.

Having said that we still should have been 2 or 3 up at half time as we missed some good chances - despite us being poor. Long hard season for Reading in store and they urgently need a new keeper.

Second half much better. More bite and passion, more pace and quality. I would rate Utd as follows:

Bunn - 7
Walker - 6
Taylor - 6
Monty - 7
Killa - 6
Morgan - 7
Ward - 8
Quinn - 8
Evans - 6
Henderson - 7
Treacy - 7 then Cotts 7

We still need more experience and aggression in midfield. Also don't think Evans is match fit and was too far away from Hendo at most times.

I really don't know how you can give killa a 6 same as evans and henderson a 7???

How's that work out??

£3m

so we have this new £3m forward, wish he played yesterday coz Evans was a waste of space.
