Let's hope our trip to the Mad Stad this year is as successful as last season's :)

This is your match thread for Saturday's game, for all on-topic discussions and prediction of scores or starting line-up.

I've been to Reading 3 out of the last 5 visits, and never seen us win. The two I've missed, we've won.

I'm going again this year, so I'm not expecting much! :(

I have to go!

We'll intercept you at the service station and bundle you into the boot :D

Can I just say, I really hate Reading. I am likely to be in a foul mood all day Saturday, especially if we don't win.

It worked last time, I was ready to burn down the place before hand, then we went and beat them :D

Despite Reading being a rather large bogey team for us, i honestly think they're one of the worst teams i've seen this year so far...including Watford against us!

I don't think i'm being overly optimistic when i say i think we'll hammer them 4-1!

I think that our wingers may get rested on this one and Reid should be more than capable of covering them and has alarming pace! (he's gotta earn them blue boots though!)

Couldnt agree more there HMB, I think that this is probably the best time to play them as they are dire from what ive seen. That said, i wont be expecting a huge scorline and will glady accept another 1 - 0

Daz, last time was the first time in 17 years that we beat them!

Regardless i'm interestred in thoughts of what midfield KB will play. With Dingle Howard supposedly having tonsillitus and Hendrie limping off for the reserves last night then KB's options are dwindling.

Maybe he will scrap his 4-5-1 formation and go 4-4-2 with Quinn and Monty in the midfield. I'd be pretty happy for him to do that. I'm normally happy for him to play his 4-5-1 negative tactics and play for a nil nil or sneal it 1-0. However, as Metal points out, Reading are weak and they are there for the taking.

My team would be

Bunn

Walker Killa Morgs Taylor
Monty
Cotts Quinn Treacy

Ched Hendo

KB will of course be looking to play 4-5-1 and he may stick Dingle Howard in the centre. Additionally he doesn't like playing Cotterill away from home becuase of his lack of tracking back etc. I'd like to see Hendrie given a slot in CM, but it's very doutbtful if he went off injured last night.

I assume you mean at their place? even so though, we beat them at theirs in 96, 97 and 2002.

My apologies Daz/Foxy - I was talking out of my ar%e!?

Still the point about Blackie's dilemma for midfield selection and formation still stands .....

Whether the 4-5-1 has been working away or not, Reading are there for the taking. They haven't scored yet this season, and we have a good, solid defensive record over the last couple of years.

I'd play 4-4-2 and take the game to them. We know we're strong at the back, and that they're weak going forward. I fancy our chances tomorrow if we play right.

Early team news........

Howard (tonsilitis) doubtful v Reading.
Hendrie available after serving four-match ban. Geary (lonh-term knee injury) battling to save his career.

:)

I think it is a game that is winnable, but knowing Sheffield Utd as closely as i do, i think it is tailor made for us to cock it all up and i reckon we are on for a 1-0 defeat.

Mind you i would be more than happy to come on here tomorrow night and eat my own words

Unconfirmed but...

Code:
               Bunn

Walker Morgan Killgallon Taylor

  Ward Montgomery Quinn Treacy

          Evans Henderson

I'd be happy with that looking at the lack of options we seem to have in the middle at the moment, especially if Quinny plays as well as he did the other night. The key will be get the ball wide and try and get round the fullbacks rather than hitting long diagonal crosses from 40 yards out. I really think that if we do that both Hendo and Ched will be more than a handful for any defence in this league.

FFS... What's the point of buying nothing but bloody wingers and then playing a striker out wide? It didn't work with Webber and I can't help but feel a proper winger would do better out there, allowing Ward to do what he does best and play as a striker.

Also, what's with the six subs? We can use seven - what point is the moron we have in charge trying to prove by not filling the bench? Still at least we know now that Hendrie is clearly never going to play in the first team, no matter how much we're screaming out for someone decent in the middle of the park.

Cos Blackwell is a clueless c**t. I can't help feeling if we signed ronaldo he'd be on the bench.

Is he not injured after the reserve game the other night?

On BBC's score they flashed our team up but we only had 6 subs on the bench, we only have 17 fit players what's going on?

Surely we just playour best team, with in form players? If Blackie thinks Ward is in better form than the wingers then why play them. Surely the wingers need to push for a place?

We can only bring 3 on anyway so whats the issue?

We looked a lot more dangerous against Leicester when Cotts and Reid were on. Webber ended up being half the player he was due to being played in a position that was alien to him. Is the same going to happen to Ward?

As for the subs, it sends out the wrong signal to name fewer than the allowance. It makes us look weak and on the back foot from the outset. Also, surely it's better to have more options on the bench? Otherwise we might as well only name 3 subs.
